Title: Who did you pretend you were?
Post by: dustrho on March 22, 2003, 02:07 AM
When I was a kid playing with Star Wars figures I always pretended I was Boba Fett.  He was (and still is) my favorite Star Wars figure/character.  Damn, that boy could fly, shoot flames/laser beams/harpoon line/rockets, was a bounty hunter, and just looked oh so sweet.

Who did you pretend you were when playing with your figures?

From what I remember, Vader. It's just the fascination with the "breathing" imitation. Kids thought it was the "rad" thing to do.

I was always someone like Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3P0, ect. My brother and his friends always got to be the cool characters. Well that was until I was with my friends and we played. Then I was Luke.

That's quite an upgrade there, from the three you mentioned to Luke.  "Impressive... most impressive."  BTW, which Luke were you by chance... hopefully Jedi Knight Luke.

I used to be Luke or Chewie,  My mom used to sew alot and I remeber being in a fabric store when I was about 5 or so and seeing the fake fur. She bought me some of it. me and my brothers would take turns wearing it. Also doubles as a barbarian vest.

Actually I can't even remember if I did pretend be any character. I was only 16 in 1977. So I guess I'll just have to pass on this one.  :(

I was usually Luke because I was the 2nd oldest in the neighborhood and my friend Wayne wanted to be Han.  While playing GI Joe I was always Duke...

Star Wars -> It hasn't been that long, but I still can't remember... I think it wa usually "me" (Yeldarb, if you wanna get technical, is my name spelt backwords, so I was Darb/Yeldarb sometimes) as a rebel or bounty hunter, I can just remember throwing pine cones as thermal detonators and such.

GI Joe -> I had my own code-name, my mom made up the name and got a certificate for it and everything... Everybody knew me as Cranky... Oh yea!

I was Joe Johnston. George Lucas would have been cool, too, but I really liked Joe's designs. I guess if I could have had George's money and Joe's vision, that would have been fine.  8)

(For the record, I'm still Batman.)

Riddle me this, riddle me that. Do I know who really is, the Bat?

No really. I'm The Batman.

Early one Sunday morning, I awoke to the sound of small children outside my window. As this was pretty odd, I lept from my bed to investigate. Peering out my window, I saw a short parade of kids, aged 3 - 7, apparently walking by themselves, until an older child caught up to them saying, "Wait up, Mom's gotta rest."

Sensing a damsel in distress, I donned my costume (a grey t-shirt with a black bat-emblem and sweats) and rushed onto the sidewalk. Up the street was a young mother struggling with crutches as she attemped to make her way from the nearby hospital to her home a half-mile away. I asked if I could give her and her children a lift, and she quickly took me up on my offer.

I darted back to the bat-driveway and drove the batmobile (disguised at the time as a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am) around to pick her up. I assisted her into the passenger seat as her kids scrambled into the back. She was all smiles and "thank you's" as she told me how she came to this predicament.

A short drive later and we were pulling up to her apartment. As I helped their mother out of the batmobile, one of the children asked, "What's your name?" I puffed out my chest, prominently displaying the bat-symbol on my shirt, and replied very seriously, "I'm Batman." (The kids seemed quite impressed. ;) )

Mom blessed Batman and I climbed back into the cockpit. As I made a quick U-turn in the street, I could hear the children shouting, "Thank you, Batman!" as I sped away.

I only wish I'd had my cape.  8)

I guess I would say that I was Obi-Wan Kenobi when I was a kid, because I was always trying to do Jedi mindtricks on people, along with various other cool Jedi things.  Too bad they never really worked.   :-\

But I'm still trying.  Hopefully some day my skills are fine-tuned enough with all the practice that something "Jedi" actually happens!   8)

When playing with my figures, I was always Luke, until I got the B-Wing Pilot (of all characters!) He became me literally, all the other characters called him "Champ" because he was an ace pilot (and because "Bobb" didn't sound nearly Star Wars enough for me) and Luke Skywalker adopted him into the family!

Awesome stories there Muftak and Snively Bandar!  We sure had great imaginations as kids, didn't we?
