Title: Prequel to a Prequel?
Post by: Brian on May 26, 2005, 11:38 AM
Big ole honkin' grain of salt with this one, but Moviehole (http://www.moviehole.net/news/5674.html) has a short article up detailing that George Lucas has apparently told one of Cinescape's "scoopers" that he has an idea in the back of his head for one more installment of the Star Wars movie franchise...a prequel 88 years prior to TPM, detailing how the Jedi got control of the universe back from the Sith, with Yoda serving as a principal character.  Probably just rumor, and I definitely don't expect it, but just some food for thought if anyone is interested.

Personally, I think it would be hilarious for Lucas to constantly say he has no plans to do 7-8-9 and then turn around and do an episode -2, -1, 0 prequel-prequel Trilogy that focuses on Palpatine and how he got his Sith powers.

Episode 0 could give us the long-awaited birth of Maul!    ::)

Plus with a prequel-prequel trilogy, Lucas can start saying stuff like, "oh no - this whole saga wasn't about Vader/Anakin, it was always meant to be about Palpatine..." and "what I meant by last SW movie was that Vader's SW Story would be over".   :P

Um... I'm gonna vote No to proposition "Make a prequel-prequel movie" - bad idea, George.   ;)

A Jedi v. Sith movie set 88 years before TPM flies in the face of the "The Sith have been extinct for a millenia" line from episode 1.  The whole thing would end up being lame...

I agree... might make a fun cartoon, but that's about it.

I would like to see something that takes place well after ROTJ, with a reborn Empire, a new Sith and Luke and Han and Leia's kids fighting to save the galaxy.  And have one of the twins turn to the dark side and Luke forced to kill him/her.

 :P

This would be cool IMO but the big question would be if Lucas actually does it.  It would for sure make a good cartoon if it's done like clone wars, as for stuff after ROTJ it's doubtful that's why there are the books.

I agree!  A KOTOR era movie would be really cool, or an NJO movie would also be cool.  The 88 years before TPM sounds bogus.

I think Lucas is pulling our legs. Besides, if you've ever been to SW.com, you'll know that the Sith Wars were over 1000 years before ANH.

Well I don't think any of us would be surprised to see a "new" Star Wars movie on the bigscreen someday.  Look at how much money this one is pulling down.  Granted there is a reason for it.  But the James Bond series has been around for over 20 years now and yet still sees each film make a nice $100-$150 million at the box-office.  It's all about money.  If there is money to be had something will probably get done.

Lucas keeps saying he won't make 7-9 and trys to act like he is done with Star Wars.  But then he says "Well I am going to make a Star Wars TV series.  Oh yeah, I will also put an animated TV series out there to."  Now we get possible word about this prequel film.

He also wants to put all 6 films out on 3-D.  You know he will tinker around with the 6 movies for the ultimate DVD set in 2007.  The man can not leave his franchise alone no matter what he tells people.

Time sure flies.  Bond is in its 41th theatrical year. If SW were to continue in either another prequel or sequel it would be overkill.  Please dont release any more movies.  Lucas has already pushed his luck with the prequels.

Man, I can't believe how quickly a BS blurb on Cinescape has made the rounds and is now seriously considered. I mean, this was said, allegedly, by Lucas to a guy on a beach in Hawaii on a hammock.

Another scooper, MK, wrote in with his story of meeting none other than George Lucas, while in Hawaii on his (MK’s) honeymoon. MK had this to say about his chance encounter with the Master:

I was vacationing at the Mandarin Oriental in Hawaii for my honeymoon in 2004. I ran into George Lucas and his family on the beach there. I was sitting in a hammock, just about to get up, and he asked me if I was done. I said yes and began to leave....

He said so "Where are you from" ... I said I was from NY. He said "Are you here for the shoot?" I said no, “Here on my honeymoon.”

I told him I was a big STAR WARS fan and was anxiously awaiting the conclusion of the most recent trilogy.

I asked him if STAR WARS was going to end with this next installment and.

He said, "'Star Wars' will never end. My involvement may, but the story will go on...."

I said what do you think would be more interesting.... telling a story prior to PHANTOM MENANCE or after RETURN OF THE JEDI?

(Lucas) said, no question about it, prior to PHANTOM MENACE. He said, that if he did ever do another storyline.... that he would do when the Jedi regained control of the universe from the Dark Lords (there were many of them) 800 years before PHANTOM MENACE. And a young Jedi named Yoda was instrumental in the effort.

You know, call me crazy, but if I was in Hawaii on my honeymoon, I'm fairly certain that "Star Wars" would be pretty low on my list of "Things I'd Like to Discuss."   ;D

I'd be told about George Lucas being there about three days after he left because I'd be IN THE HOTEL ROOM WITH MY WIFE DOING VERY NAUGHTY THINGS AND NOT IN A HAMMOCK TALKING TO GEORGE LUCAS!

So, umm, yeah, I think this report is total bull****.

I don't think anyone is really taking it all that seriously.  Still it should not surprise anyone if Star Wars somehow graces the silver screen - or digital screen yet again someday.

Who came up with this one...Supershadow?  ;D  I really think that the movies are done.  Star Wars is going to live on, but not in movie theaters.

I wouldn't be opposed to this storyline being explored in an EU animated series.  But the timeline sounds way off.

Honestly. I like the idea of a young Yoda fighting close to 100 years ago.  It just sounds so out there, that it's plausable.  The problem with ANY new SW is that it shouldn't affect the Skywalker Family story (E1-E6), and setting the story so long ago, there would be little danger of that.

I think that Yoda should lead a "damned fool idealistic crusade" for some sort of force crystal and build the first lightsaber to defeat the Sith!

Thinking about this today, I would much rather see a story about Palpatine, why he turned to the Dark Side, etc.
