Now all you need is a few Dioramas and your life will be complete !

I do have one diorama setup at the moment, but it's kinda small right now.  I'm planning on moving into a house in the next year or two (I'm in a townhouse right now), and my wife is gonna give me the entire basement to do anything Star Wars related for it.  Yeah baby!  Here's a link to the pic to the simple diorama...

Updated the pictures in my gallery #1.  Please keep in mind that I have less than 1/2 of what I currently own.  My office where everything is kept is too small, and I have about 12 long Rubbermaid containers filled with stuff (waiting for a new home next year).

12 Rubbermaids :o  You definitely need that new house Chris!  Your stuff looks great except for that Bears jersey, Purple and Gold would look a lot better :P  Do you have mostly loose stuff or both loose and carded/boxed?
Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: dustrho on April 9, 2003, 01:54 AM
Everything that is boxed away are pretty much carded figures.  There are other odds & ends in those containers, but mostly the carded figures.  I do have every one of them labeled so that if I need to find something right away, I can do so quickly withouth having to search every box (like Matt recently did... hehehe).

And yes, I do need a new house.  The wife & I are talking about getting a bigger hosue next year, and the plan will be me having full reign over the basement for my Star Wars collection.

Awesome collection.  I couldn't get the video to work (and I have windows media player) but the pictures worked just fine.  Two blue snaggletooths!!??  WOW!!  You have a lot of vintage figures, were they originally yours?
I noticed in you sig. note, you like C-10 cards.  I was wondering if you've ever forfeited the "perfect" card for one that might have a wrinkle on the back or a small bend in the corner because the figure inside the bubble is turned awkward or their is obviously paint error.  I find myself going through all the cards of a particular figure analyzing the figure inside versus the card condition itself and have never wanted to ask anyone what they do for fear of getting trapped in the "carded vs non-carded" debate but since you seem to have both (and that's how I do my collecting), I was just wondering if you do this.

Anyways, back to your collection....impressive, most impressive  :)
Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: dustrho on May 13, 2003, 08:50 PM
Thanks for the compliments jadesfire!  When it comes to carded figures I am more interested in the condition of the card versus the figure position/paint job.  But, it really depends on the figure in question though.  If I've been looking for a particular figure for a long time and was desperate enough for it, I would buy it even if the card was in C-9+ condition.  I'm really not THAT picky, but if I have a chance to choose the condition of the carded figure I would want C-9 or better.

I got the nickname C-10 from Matt ("JediMac"), because he helped me get some Star Tours figures at Disneyland.  I only wanted true MOMC condition, and that's where he gave me the nickname "Mr. C-10."

I don't know why the video clips didn't work for you.  They've worked for others recently.  You might have to upgrade your version of Microsoft Windows Media Player.  Maybe that will help you out.

Again, thanks for the compliments!

Yeah, I do have two blue Snaggletooths, and those are from my childhood.  I used to have about 40 total vintage figures when I was a kid (maybe more), but I was only able to find about 10 of them.  So, everything you see basically was purchased or traded for in the last couple of years.

Did you try saving it to your computer's hard drive first?  Sometimes you have to download it first to make it play.  If you didn't do it that way, could you give that a try?  LMK if that works for you.  Thanks!

And thanks for the compliments on the other video clips!

dustrho...great collection pics.  I had a question for you, do you happen to know where you got those white shelving pieces that much of your collection is displayed on?  I noticed them on the pictures at your site, and I really need to do something different with my collection (need more room, a long time ago)..and was thinking of something like this.  Are you happy with it, and is it somewhat affordable?
Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: dustrho on September 19, 2003, 02:16 PM
I got the shelving from Menards (they're like a Home Depot, Lowes, or True Value Hardware store).  The shelves were very affordable... were less than $15 each I think.  Then you have to buy the L-brackets and the wall braces.  I think I spent about $60-70 on each wall.  It's definitely one of the most affordable, flexible, and easiest ways to display your collection.  It really helps out a lot if you're limited on space, which I am.

After I get a house next year with a big basement, I'm going to probably use some shelves like I have now and will also get some bookshelves.

Thanks for the compliments!

Sorry, I had one other question about those shelves you use in your display dustrho...would they be deep and/or sturdy enough to hold say a Republic Gunship or the Falcon?  I'm really looking for something that allows me to display at least the majority of my ships and figures together, and I was curious if these might work.  I hope to look at them this weekend.  Again, kudos on a great looking collection. :)

Mosnab, here's a PICTURE (http://www.chrisrhoads.com/starwars/collection/east_wall/121_2171.jpg) of one of my Republic Gunships that are sitting on my shelf.  It doesn't completely fit on the shelf, but pretty damn close.  Now I don't think I'd be able to put my Millennium Falcon up there, but a Gunship isn't a problem.  I think my shelves are about a foot deep or so.  Any other questions... just let me know.

And thanks again for the compliments about my collection.   8)

Chris, I love the collection pages!  I'm just like WOW!  Your army building may put me to shame.

I also love that you've got some Micro Collection stuff in there.  That's always been one of my favorite segments of the vintage line.  I only wish I had some of those.  Especially the Carbon Freeze Chamber.

Also, I think it's cool how you lined up your vintage bounty hunters with the modern versions.  Nice touch!

Very cool and unique piece there Chris!  Was it $15 total, or more than that shipped?  I'd imagine it's kinda heavy and shipping might run an extra bit more than usual.  What was the final tab on it?  I might take a gander at that auction.

Nice score!   8)

Well, shipping for that piece was $9 so the total of it was $24.  I've seen similar sculptures at my local flea market, and these have easily gone for anywhere between $50-100.  So, I think this was a steal!  I think the next one I get would be the R2-D2.  Very cool!

Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: dustrho on March 13, 2004, 02:20 PM
Talk about a sad, sad day.  :'(

Today was the first day (of many) that I have started taking down my collection.  I've been working on it for 3 hours, packing everything away neatly in boxes.  The reason for that is that my wife & I are going to start searching for a new home soon, and I need to pack all this up before we put our townhouse on the market.  It's so depressing see bare walls with nothing up on them, and my little dioramas (nothing compared to Sandtrooper Dan's, of course) are just gone.  I'll take a picture of the room when I get it emptied out.

But, the good thing about this is that when we find a house, the basement will be 100% devoted toward my Star Wars collection.  My wife, Carrie, has agreed that I can do whatever I want to do with decorating it.  Not sure what I have in mind, but it will depend if we get a house with a finished or unfinished basement.
Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: DSJ™ on March 14, 2004, 12:10 AM
Ah, the joys of packing & unpacking.  :-\  Hope it all works out for the both of you. So you get the basement for your SW room & Carrie gets the rest of the house. Thats a good deal!  ;D  Best of luck.  :)
Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: jokabofe on March 14, 2004, 01:12 AM
ahhh, the old "you get the basement" trick  ;D

my ex did that to me. unfortunately, the basement never got finished. which is just as well in the end, since i don't live there anymore, and the plans i had were going to be very expensive and time consuming.

i had pretty much drawn up plans and had everything ready to go to transform my basement into jabba's palace. i was going to cover the walls with plaster, and paint them a beige/tan color to match the carpeting. and then a few tables and cushions, would have been done. but, alas, it was not meant to be. good luck with your chris, i'm sure it will turn out better than mine  ;)
Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: dustrho on July 7, 2004, 11:43 AM
Click HERE (http://www.chrisrhoads.com/collection_current.htm) to view some pictures of my Star Wars collection.  Sadly everything is still boxed up, and won't be displayed until the basement is finished.  But, I've been giving it a lot of thought, and I'm starting to think that maybe I should just display this stuff anyway.  I don't know if I'll be able to get my basement finished until next year sometime, so I might just utilize the unfinished basement just the way it is.  The question that comes to mind then is how will I display everything I have?  With no wall to hang shelves, will I have to resort strictly to bookshelves?
Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: Scott on July 8, 2004, 11:12 AM
Nice stuff Chris, really like the new set up :P :-*

If you remember my basement I just set the stuff up knowing that we were eventually gonna do something different.  Well, my wife has decided we need to do that soon...so I have to start taking stuff down

I think cheap Bookcases from Wal-Mart might be the way you want to go for now
Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: dustrho on July 8, 2004, 11:29 AM
I think cheap Bookcases from Wal-Mart might be the way you want to go for now.

I'm thinking more & more that I might just do exactly that.  I just can't wait until next year to have this basement finished, and it kills me to know that all my Star Wars stuff are still packed away in boxes.

And how could I forget your basement?  I was in there last night helping myself to some of your goodies.   ;)   :P
Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: Scott on July 8, 2004, 11:33 AM
Right now your collection reminds me of what Colman's must be like and what fun is that?  THose bookcases are $25 a pop, you'll probably need at least 4-6 of them so for $150 you could look at them for a while plus have cheap shelving when you get done or toss them if you don't need them anymore
Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: dustrho on July 8, 2004, 12:15 PM
It's definitely not a fun situation to be in.  It's excruciating to go down in my basement and see all of this stuff boxed up.  If you read my post on March 13th, you'll notice that is when I started taking down my collection, and I finished packing in a few days.  So, my collection has actually been boxed up since March.   :o   :'(

So, I'm really getting desperate, in the sense that I want my collection displayed immediately.  I think I might buy some of those bookshelves over the weekend, and start displaying my stuff.
Title: Re: dustrho's collection
Post by: dustrho on July 11, 2004, 01:03 AM
Well, I went out today and bought 7 whilte bookshelves (Sauder brand), and just finished putting those up in my basement.  Was able to start filling the shelves up with some of my collection, but I'm starting to learn that I'm going to need SEVERAL more bookshelves in order to display my entire collection.  I should hopefully be done with the majority of it by the end of tomorrow.  I should have pics uploaded sometime in the near future.
