Star Wars Rebels / Re: Star Wars: Rebels - Class II Vehicles
« on: November 20, 2014, 10:39 AM »
I opened all of the vehicles last night with the kids.  My quick thoughts (caveat that I haven't opened that many toys so my frame of reference might be off).

Phantom - The kids and I really like this.  I think this is the best of the bunch.  Flexible play options and it seems well built.  It looks like it has been designed to attach to a future Ghost ship.

TIE - I think this is really good as well.  My only complaint is that the hatch is too hard to open.  I'm going to have to file down the plastic to make it easier to open.  My kids can't open it on their own, and I struggle to get it open.  Not sure if they are all like this or not.

AT-DP - It stands great and looks great.  However trying to move the legs is a complete disaster.  Within ten minutes of opening and constructing this the legs popped off about five times and I had to instruct the kids not to move the legs more than a few degrees at a time.  How this got through the design process is beyond me.  The cockpit with double opening hatch is pretty cool though.

Overall I would have to say they're okay, but not great, although I think the Phantom is really solid.

I don't think the plastic is so thin and hollow that its going to break or cause quality issues, so that's not an issue for me.

I was really annoyed with the stickers included with these though.  While the Phantom's were reasonably easy to apply, the others were terrible.  They were so small you couldn't even grab them.  I don't know how anyone without model building skills could apply these (had to get out my Exacto knife to put them on like decals), and really seem unnecessary.  Does Hasbro feel they *must* include stickers with every ship?  They were so small and meaningless, and frustrating.

While I've got my gripes, I'm very glad they created new ships and its not just repainted Jedi Starships and the usual crap we've received over the past few years.  The $25 price point isn't great for the ships alone, but its also not terrible.  I actually think its a decent deal if you get the Target versions with the pack-in figures.

One thing that kind of bugs about this game is the attack ranges of the different troops and defenses.  I love getting attacked by AT-ATs and my defenses never fire a shot because the AT-AT can shoot further.  Seriously, who thought up this stuff?  Couldn't they have more or less copied Clash of Clans and used Star Wars themes?

The thing that bugs me is that most Targets I go to have two pegs devoted to Legends figures, but have maybe six total figures on the pegs.  They've put those black rubber stoppers on the pegs so you can't fit more than a few figures per peg.  They could easily fit a whole case and a half if they filled up their pegs.   I shove the black rubber stoppers back at all the Targets I go to.   >:D

Also noticed these are finally up at TRU.com but for $6.99 a piece and Chopper, Stormtrooper, and the inquisitor are all sold out. :(

My local Target is charging $6.49.  ::)

$6.99 might not be too bad if you can find them without driving around town.

Just noticed that my target inquisitor tie is in a Tri-logo box.  Are they all like that?

Sabine and Hera both come as part of the Mission Series 2-packs.  And each of them is packed with a Stormtrooper.  Sabine and a Stormtrooper are in Mission Series wave 5.  Hera and the Stormtrooper with pauldron are probably in the following wave, but I haven't seen any retail solicitation for that wave yet.

Thanks.

That is actually a really smart way to pack these figures in if Hasbro believes they can't sell a female figure.  Pack them with Stormtroopers for $10 and you should get more takers.

Are either Sabine or Hera scheduled to be released as figures anytime soon, either as individually carded figures or as pack-ins?

My daughter is getting in to the show with me and the boys but wants to play with some of the girl characters.

At least they picked reasonably good re-packs.  Hopefully when these cases hit the shelves the repacked stuff will sell through quickly so we can get more Rebels figures.

I'm not tracking the Legends stuff as closely, but are any of the OT Legends figures in the first Rebels case assortment new or interesting, or all repacks?

Is Target only offering their pack-in versions of the Inquisitor TIE and Phantom?  Or are they offering a pack-in version of the AT-DP as well?

Have these been found outside of Walgreens yet?

Anybody got a sense for how Walgreen's distribution network works and how quickly they restock?  I've been watching a local WG that has empty pegs (with 6" shelf tags) for about three weeks.  I stop in a couple of times a week and the pegs are always empty.  I'm guessing they're just not getting stuff that quickly.

Didn't we already kind of see Chewie and Lumpy in the SWR "movie"?

According to Wookieepedia the parent/child Wookiees were Wullffwarro and Kitwarr.

My four year old son asked me if that was Chewbacca and I had to go look it up.  I had assumed if it was Chewbacca they would have made it clear.  Plus Chewie was supposed to have been rescued by Han, but I guess he could be caught and rescued multiple times.

I think its a huge miss to mix these in with Legends figures for the "launch", especially considering its going to be some time before these get to retail.

In my opinion they should have had a case of Rebels figures available now, along with the ships, role play, and everything else Rebels.  Maybe after the first wave they could have mixed these in with Legends figures, but I think its going to be tough for your average mom shopping at Target to come up with these figures before Christmas.

I hope they've got battle packs or some other dedicated packs of these coming for the kids for the holiday season.

I had hoped to get my kids a bit hooked on this series and action figures, but by the time the figures come out the novelty of the show will have worn off.  They better have a damn good show to hold kids attention for 2-3 months.

Hasbro missed a great opportunity to kick-start their fan base with a new product line.  And they wonder why Lego is eating their lunch and their revenues are tanking.  ::)
