The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?
« on: January 25, 2021, 02:32 PM »
A lot of us have been around for the long haul. There have been a lot of ups and downs. This is probably the worst moment for the 3.75 line.

All the symptoms of a line about to die are present. Endless repacks, marked up and scarce exclusives, and virtually no distribution. Think Playmates Star Trek at the end. Hasbro does seem to be expanding TVC this year and I appreciate that but when Steve left, so did a lot of the passion in the team. The end of the 5 POA line was the effective end of the 3.75 play pattern. Everything now is simply ornamentation. The other major factor here is the Disney licensing fee, which is so high that it is effectively constraining what Hasbro can do with the line. That needs to change but won't.

It's hugely disappointing. Like I said there have been ups and downs, so there may be better days ahead. The fundamentals of the market and the license would have to change though and at the moment I don't see that.

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6" Black Series Rumors
« on: May 5, 2020, 12:27 PM »
Hasbro has done a couple of TVC multipacks at SDCC recently, so I wonder if that could be a possibility. If it's based on The Mandalorian, that opens a lot of possibilities. They also like to include figures that later come out at retail so I'm going to say the TVC item is a three-pack that includes Mando (Beskar Armor), The Child and someone else - IG-11, Kulil, Incinerator Trooper, depends on how crazy they want to get on tooling.

Sorry to hear everyone's struggles. Hopefully, things improve as quickly as they can.

My pay has been reduced as well, but thankfully I'm still working regularly. Knock on wood that continues.

Stay safe.

I set him on the rim of my coffee mug for like thirty seconds and that did the trick.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2020 TVC Imperial Troop Transport

I ******* love this thing.

The vintage transport was always one of my favorite toys, and while the Rebels was one wasn't amazing, I enjoyed it and like I said, love this. I have to get one. Or two.

I really miss them. At this point, SW:Resistance has more 3.75 figures than TROS and unless Hasbro springs a secret wave on us after the movie drops, that's unlikely to change. It's not even like I'm collecting right now.

They matched in store for me. It rings up regular price, you just need to tell them. Might be a good idea to have the page handy on your phone.

I love the box art. This is a wait and see for me, though. I love the ones I have (not that that ever stopped me).

I have a severe allergy to the price, but that is awesome. The logo is far more Kenner ish than the PT or ST vintage logos have been for the most part. I'm really looking forward to the Mandalorian line up (and show).

🙌🙌🙌 Jeff and Rob.

I always liked the 5 POA and as Jeff said, the Solo stuff was fantastic. Some of it, including Moloch and Quay Tolsite, was outstanding. Hasbro is doing great things this year with TVC to be sure, but they're also deeply confused on what they want the line to be. The rationale of TVC was to provide super articulated, premium collector oriented figures, i.e. the obscure dudes, which the line outside of a few pieces hasn't provided. The 5 POA line somehow managed the breadth and variety we're accustomed to, and now that it's gone, so is the hallmark of the SW line. Maybe it will recover, or as Adam Pawlus has been hinting, there will be some big changes. Either way, this is the end of so many things at once and it's not a fun time to be a SW collector.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Funko 3.75" Action Figure Lines

I passed on the single carded Jen and Kira because I intended to get the Landstrider w/ Jen and Garthim w/ Kira and... that worked out not so good. This new series is fantastic and I hope they make tons more.

As others have said, this is a lot of public negotiating and Spidey's exit from the MCU may not be set in stone. I suspect they'll work it out.

The FF I suspect will be the easiest of the Fox characters to integrate. My own theory is the Quantum Realm is likely the source of their powers and we may have already seen some seeds planted for them here and there.

X-Men are a little more challenging. You have two options I think. One is the Snap becomes the genesis of their powers, with all the gamma radiation. This isn't perfect. The other is they arrive via another dimension, which is going to be a thing in this next phase or two. Not sure which I prefer. I do think much of their mythology, specifically Xavier/Magneto, is so well covered now that we're unlikely to see it again at the outset. There are plenty of periods in X-history sans both of them that could serve as models for introducing the team. See pretty much the 80s. A potential tell on this is the rumor Disney may try to excise any Fox X-era references from the New Mutants film to preserve its characters for future use in the MCU.

I never much cared for the particulars on the names or backgrounds of the EU but here's a toast to Baniss Keeg, who remains one of my favorites and perennial resident on my Most Wanted List.

All of Jayson's great reporting has helped prepare for this, but it's still pretty disappointing. This does feel like the end, at least in large measure. It's unfortunate for a lot of reasons, but SW is about to enter this lull period as far as movies that would have presented Hasbro an opportunity to catch up in the 3.75 format on a lot of stuff. That simply won't happen now. Solo may not have been all that as box office champ but the line was gangbusters and it seemed 5POA was trending upwards. I really enjoyed the Solo line and the 3.75 SW line has been my hobby since 1978, so this sucks. All good things, I suppose.
