Joe Colton is already out?  And the black Cobra Commander is the rare one?  I've seen at least a dozen black ones, but not a single blue one...

The Cobra Commander figure that comes in blue is supposed to be the standard for Wave 1. I'v only seen one of the black variants and one Joe Colton. I'm sure the Colton figure will be widely available in later waves. But it looks like Hasbro did release him as a rare figure to pick up within the first Wave.

Was Joe Colton found at a retail store?

Yes I found it on the pegs at my local TRU. Only saw one Joe Colton. I have talked to other collectors in my area and they have been aware of these figures too and have told me they are supposed to be rare limited edition figures that are only being released in Wave 1. I didn't know that at the time of seeing them and I just assumed they were regular figures for the wave. Now i'm regretting it.

Wave 1 had a few "special" figures mixed in with the regular 9 figures. These "special" figures are rare and won't be re-made. The Black Cobra Commander is a rare one that will only be seen in Wave 1. Also there is Joe Colton (Bruce Willis' character). I saw these at TRU when the first came out but didn't pick them up for some reason.

If the distract wharehouses for the big retailers are still holding onto whatever is left of Wave 1, then those rare figures might pop back up in Feb/Mar.

This wave doesnt really impress me at all and I could care less for the Renegades figures. But the other two regular Joes are a bit too "colorful" and weird for my liking.

Well I just hope hasbro decides to go easy on the ridiculously over-the-top launchers that come with the figures this time around for the movie toys. And it would be nice if they continue the same level of craftsmanship on the detail and articulation like they have with POC line.

Since this film is slated to release sometime in the summer next year can we expect to see a new GI Joe toy line releasing alongside of the movie's release? and will that mean the 30th anniversary series will be short lived?

I was never impressed with this GI Joe line. I just didn't like the way the figures were adapted to represent many of the characters from the movie. They just looked cheap and easily forgettable among the GI Joe universe. The vehicle sets however were interesting and I did pick up a few of those.

I know I have been criticizing the prices on these new vintage sets but its really not a big deal. I personally feel they aren't worth that value for many reasons other than financially. An item like this is I think would really only appeal to certain types of collectors. I'm not one of them. There doesn't seem to be any great action value to this Taun-Taun. And it's open belly to doesn't count in my opinion. No action figures or accessories (other than the open belly and saddle) are included. This seems to be just a good display piece whether its in a case or in a diorama set. The Taun-Taun itself looks great and is very detailed, but it doesn't really offer kids or collectors anything more than that. If it were more reasonably priced I would however consider getting it.

Seeing as how they are exclusive to Target they can definitely mark up the price without having to worry about people getting them somewhere else at a more reasonable cost. But the box cover art is absolutely misleading and I also suspect that many ignorant parents will pick these up this Christmas thinking they are getting more for their dollar.

For 25 dollars the Taun Taun and the Landspeeder seem overpriced. Especially since they dont come with at least one figure. At best they look to me good Diorama pieces. I will certainly be taking a pass on both of these. But I will add that they both do look great for what they are.

I will be trying to grab some of them this week at my Target if they show up. Its just getting harder to spend the money to collect these figures as I have been watching the prices on these toys slowly creep up. Walmart seems to be the cheapest retailer in my area as they have them regular priced at about $6.88, Target at $7.99, and Toys R Us at $8.49. sadly it only seems to be only the Walmart supercenters that actually have any of the Joes in stock while Toys R Us has the most on hand (including vehicles) yet marks up their prices significantly higher than everyone else. It just seems to be a bad time to be collecting action figures in general right now.

Collector's Tips / Re: Temperature effects on figures?

What about other sources of light such as light bulbs or florescent bulbs? Do those have similar negative affects like sunlight?

I keep all of my figures in cardboard boxes on the second floor of my house in my closet. I have A/C here at home so it doesn't get too hot. all of my collection is still carded and nothing is loose. should I be using other protective materials such as cloth to protect my collection or is it fine the way it already is?

Been passing on the renegades figures altogether. Never seen the show and I dont like the cartoon design. Reminds me too much of the clone wars figures.
