Is anyone here attending Celebration? I'm not going, but I'm hoping we get some info on new releases for the VC. Does Hasbro generally have a Q&A panel at these things? I know they do for Toyfair, but not sure about Celebration.

More specifically, Tunghori. Have you guys bought and Vintage Collection figures from him? Are they decent?

The Vintage Collection / Load up the 'barge!
« on: April 3, 2018, 11:13 AM »
Now that the Khetanna has been successfully backed, I'm starting to think about who needs to go in it. BanthaSkull has a pretty good list of the unproduced characters from the Sail Barge, but there are a bunch who are due for a resculpt, need to be reissued.

I'm assuming Hasbro will be releasing and reissuing figures that tie-in to the Khetanna (since that would just be smart merchandising).

• Bib Fortuna (resculpt)
• Tessek (resculpt)
• Droopy McCool (resculpt)
• Max Rebo (resculpt)
• Sy Snoodles - original (I don't think she's singing, but isn't she on the sail barge? At any rate, resculpt)
• Gammorean Guard (Vintage collection reissue)
• Jabba's bartender droid (Reissue, as I don't really want to buy that whole astromech set)
• Elom (I'm fine with the one we have, and I already have a duplicate, score!)
• Ree Yees (Vintage collection reissue)
• Bossk (Vintage collection reissue)
• Wooof (Vintage collection reissue)
• Slave Leia (Sandstorm reissue, but probably won't happen because Disney sucks)
• Shasa Tiel (new)
• Bartender R2 (reissue)
• C-3PO (reissue)
• Boba Fett (reissue, for the one person on Earth that doesn't already have 20 of this guy)
• Jawas (reissues)
• J'Quille (reissue or resculpt)
• Salacious Crumb (reissue)
• Yak Face (resculpt, coming)
• Fozec (new)
• Klaatu - white outfit (resculpt, coming)
• Nysad (reissue)
• Vizam (reissue)
• Geezum (new)
• Yoxgit (new)
• Rayc Ryjerd (new)
• Weequay marksman - the one Luke pulls out the window (new)
Taym Dren-Garen (new)
Human on the barge deck (new)
Human guard with the furry hat (new)

Wookieepedia claims that Hermi Odle is on the sail barge, where he gets into a fight with Pote Snitkin. I think this is probably just some ****** EU store gone awry, or else someone at Wookieepedia is smoking crack. I haven't seen a trace of Hermi Odle on the sail barge, so until I do, I'm going with the idea that he wasn't there.

The Original Trilogy / Hoover the Attark

Does this little guy even show up on screen? I can't find him anywhere. I've seen plenty of pictures of the puppet itself, but none of him actually on the set.

The Vintage Collection / Smaller Vehicle/Beast/Other Items
« on: July 24, 2012, 08:59 AM »
I was reading through the "Figures Making the Cut" thread, and started thinking about smaller vehicle/beast/Other items that I'd really like to see made before the line ends. I'm really happy with the updates to the Dewback and Tauntaun, but there are some other spots in the line that I'd really like to see refreshed...

Jabba's Prisoner Skiff: We may never get a sail barge...it's just a truth that we'll need to face eventually. But what we could get is an updated skiff. The one we have now looks really nice, but it's just a bit too small. It would be great if we could get a skiff that's about 15-20% larger. Most collectors would buy two, to house all the skiff guard figures Hasbro's been pumping out in the past couple years, and match what's onscreen.

Acklay: While I'm happy with the size of Hasbro's Acklay, the articulation is completely wonky. Some legs move one way, while others move in the opposite way, with no rhyme or reason. For this reason, the Acklay always has a turning to side look to him...at least on mine. Also, the head is always turned down. I'd love to see this beastie resculpted, with the leg articulation reworked.

Vader's Meditation Chamber: This thing is just plain cool, and really went a long way in adding to the creepiness of Vader when I was a kid. We see his scarred flesh for the first time, and Imperials have to come to him to discuss what's going on. He kills an Admiral over the viewscreen while sitting comfortably in his seat, for **** sake...badass. The thing is just creepy looking in general. We got one in the modern collection, but it's undersized and needs a top cover.

What about you guys? Are there any smaller scale (not "B" size) vehicles/beasts/other items you guys want to see before the end of the line?

Star Wars Action Figures / Lando's Customs
« on: July 19, 2012, 06:45 PM »
I've been working on some customs from Jabba's palace to help fill out my Jabba's Palace coffee table / diorama. I'll be adding to this list, but here's what I have so far...

Jedi Luke (corrected cloak)
I love the new Jedi Luke figure. The robes, not so much. I basically pulled his robes apart, got a needle and thread, and remade them to match what we see on screen.

Yoxgit
I created this custom several years ago, and I'll probably revisit it eventually, like when I have no one left to do.
He was created from an ugnaught head and Zutton body, which I repainted.

Jess
I love me some sexy Jabba's palace dancers (Yarna not included).
Jess was made from a Legacy Slave Leia body, leather strips, blue tulle, Padme Amidala (pilot) head. I sculpted the hair out of sculpy, and sewed the tulle pants. I know the pants aren't transparent in the movie, but hey, the end product is pretty good.

Gauron Nas Tal
I feel like this guy looks different in every picture I see, but this was based mostly on the shot where he's standing around Dengar when Luke falls into the Rancor pit.
He was created from Bossk (head, feet and hands, repainted), Hem Dazon (torso, upper arms, upper legs) and Jango Fett's shin guards. I figured I would hook him up with some dirty looking shin armor, since I don't have a costume budget to worry about. I also have him a cloth "collar/scarf" and a leather jacket. It's not so easy to see in the pics, but there's some really cool texture in the leather which makes it look crocodile-ish, which is close to what he's got in the movie.

BG-J38
This isn't really a custom, as I didn't do anything specifically to the figure itself, but I did create the gaming units that he messes around with. And since that's really all he does, I think it's a good addition to the figure, as well as the diorama. Seriously, BG-J38 without the gaming units is like EV-9D9 without the administrator workstation, or 8D8 without the Gonk droid torture...thing.

The Vintage Collection / Beasts: Resculpts, Repacks & New
« on: November 2, 2011, 03:34 PM »
So I'm loving the new Taun Taun, but when I put it on my beasts shelf, it makes some of the earlier beasties look a little outdated. With these two Tauntaun packs, a Dewback "due" in a few months, and the Kaadu being released in a battlepack, it seems like Hasbro is down with a little Beast Love. What do you guys think is good enough to repack, in need of a resculpt, or never-before-made and needed?

Resculpts
Ronto: Though it's not really a popular beast, the Ronto from the POTF2 era could really use a resculpt. It has sort of a Fisher Price dinosaur look to it.
Wampa: I liked the Wampa we got a few years back, but it could certainly use a resculpt with enhanced articulation, and a more solid construction. The "chew toy" feel is a little lame.
Nexxu: This guys suffers from the pre-posed nature of the SAGA collection. I'd like to see a new one with enhanced articulation.
Reek: The sculpt on the Reek isn't terrible overall, but he could use some new legs, no action feature and a new paint job.
Acklay: The problem with the Acklay is that each of his legs want to move in a different position. I think this one needs to be completely resculpted.

Repacks
Dewback: I would actually like to get a couple more Sandtroopers with Dewbacks, so I'd say that could be a straight-up rerelease.
Bantha: I really feel like this guy was nailed the first time around. The rerelease a few years back had some weird coloring, if I'm not mistaken. I'd like to see the same coloration as the late '90s version...which may be the only situation where a POTF2 version is superior. It would be great to have a Mos Espa "beast of burden" version of the Bantha, rather than a Tusken Raider pack.
Taun Taun (with Rebel scout): Seriously, this needs to happen.

New Sculpts
Orray: I'm not really a fan of this thing, but I know a lot of people want to see one made.
Dactillion Dragonmount: Even though we got the briefest of glimpses of these flying dragons on Utapau, They would make a pretty cool toy.

The Vintage Collection / Background character resculpts
« on: June 6, 2011, 12:13 PM »
There's tons of main character resculpts we all want to see, but what about the background characters? When will they get some resculpt love? Since we're finally getting updated Dr Evazan and Ponda Baba figures, now might be a good time to think about other much needed background character updates.

Mon Mothma
This figure looks almost as lifeless as the actress who played her (seriously, her acting is abysmal in ROTJ), and looks even worse with the updated Admiral Ackbar.

Ree Yees
One of my all-time favorite Jabba's palace goons. The POTF2 figure features the awkward stepping stance and needlessly muscular build which plagued that line.

Yakface
The ever-elusive Yakface would benefit from some cloth goods and bendable knees.

Cantina Band Member
The POTF2 sculpt is really starting to show it's age with these guys (well, I guess it's technically one figure). the split leg stance makes them look less like an alien jazz group and more like they should be rocking out on stage with Slash.

Snaggletooth
Part of the (for it's time) great Cantina aliens cinema scene pack, this guy could really benefit from an update. Especially one that highlights his hunchback and let's him finally sit down.

Chancellor Valorum
Boring character, but one that would benefit from a redo.

Squid Head
I know his name is "Tessek", but he'll always be Squid Head to me. This guy has a pretty decent sculpt, being part of the POTJ line, but would really benefit from cloth goods. He's seen sitting in Jabba's palace a few times.

Admiral Motti
Seriously, this sculpt was showing it's age a few years ago...time for a redo.

The Vintage Collection / TRU Vintage Collection Y-Wing
« on: May 6, 2011, 02:43 PM »
I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but I noticed an article on the front page of RS about a new Y-Wing for the Vintage collection. Unfortunately, the pics show that same underscaled version we've gotten in the past.

For the people who have the Clone Wars Y-wing, is the scale the same, or was that a larger ship? I'd love to see a correctly scaled (or at least closer to correct scaled) Y-Wing before the modern line ends.

The Vintage Collection / Most Wanted (non-carded figures)
« on: October 25, 2010, 10:06 PM »
I know we have a lot of want lists as far as carded figures go, but I thought I'd start one for figures (or creatures) that don't fit on a standard card. The new Jabba set has me pretty geeked out because it's different from the norm. It seems like we get figures, vehicles or battle packs, and it was cool to get something that doesn't really fit into those categories.

Having said that, what are you guys hoping to see in the not-so-distant future?

Here's one of mine...

Emperor Palpatine with throne

Preferably, I'd love to have those two little tech stations that are in front as well (Luke jumps into one while he's fighting Vader). The spider web window would just be the icing on the cake.

This is an idea I had about 10 years ago. Basically, living in New York means that you don't have a lot of space. My idea was to find cool ways to display my collection without having it really intrude on my living space. What I created was a diorama of Jabba's palace that's built into a coffee table. I built the coffee table myself and covered it with a glass top. Currently it's less of a coffee table and more of a work table in my office (it's very sturdy), but the fact that it's still a functional, usable object in my apartment keeps it true to the original goal.

Here's some shots of the interior, since they're much more interesting than shots of a table. I'll probably upload some of those later.

I still have to do some detail painting (the archway glyphs mainly), and add a bunch of hookahs, bowls, fruit, snack stands and whatever else clutters up Jabba's throne room. There's also a droid dungeon, but due to the size constraints of this being built in a coffee table, I've placed it on a sort of second floor (rather than below the throne room). When I have a house and kids, I plan on boosting this up, building a Rancor pit and proper droid dungeon, and using it as a big display piece rather than a work table.

And here's a couple shots of the interior without figures or lights on...

Hey,

My friend Doug wrote this article for the NY Times regarding the merchandising efforts for the Clone Wars. Thought I'd pass it along...
