The Legacy Collection '08-'10 / What to do with Mini-Fighter
« on: June 17, 2008, 12:14 PM »

First off, what more can I saw about this ship that hasn't already been said? One thing I think they should have waited on (and nobody shoot me over this!) was releasing the AT-TE along the same time. Two HIGH ticket items at one time? I know I'll have to choose one over the other and for me, the Falcon is the obvious choice.

Now for that little fighter. I saw a video (like everyone else) that said the fighter was to give kids something to 'play' with since the ship is so big. Personally, I plan on having that spot as a cargo bay, so what do I do with the small ship?

Here's an idea: Take one of the older Falcons (that will be flooding eBay if nothing else) and modify it. Cut the current cockpit off and cover it over, then mount this little fighter between the mandables. It should give a nice new look to the ship and create a new light freighter.

You could also get one of the small 'submarine' toys and mount the gripper arms on the front of it and create a small work-bee type craft.

I'm sure there are lots of other uses for this nifty little feller... ;)

Some awesome stuff. Nice actually seeing colonial battle groups seeing how we've never seen more than two battlestars on screen at one time.

Thanks Darth Anton. The whole battlegroup question is something that comes up over at Starship Combat News a good bit. There MUST have been various ships and larger groups, but we never get to see them. If you want to see some other great ship customs, go over there and check them out.

The Fourth Fleet, also known as the Black Fleet. It is a First Tier Defensive fleet and a Second Tier Offensive fleet. The second tier designation isn't a slight on the ships or those serving aboard them, but rather to the nature of the TO&E of the fleet.

The 4th is mostly made up of tried and true ship classes, but also has a fair number of new upgrades and extrapolations to those classes. Additionally, the 4th is where many (but not all) new ship class first spend time. This gives the new ships a true test without placing them or their crews at extreame risk.

Each ship bares the black banner of the fleet, along with a unique color haroldry for the ship class. This allows for eaiser identification of ships when fighters are returning.

Here are a few shots of the fleet:

Valhalla Class Command Battlestar (Ravenstar): Odin

Nova Class Battlestar (Repainted Hasbro Titanium)

Gunslinger Class Destroyer (Novastar/Mr. Woodchuck):

Hunter Class Lightstar (Ravenstar):

Onyx Class Missle Frigate (Burgstrom <modified>):

Nemisis Strikestar (Ravenstar):

Star Wars Ships and Vehicles / Custom Titanium Ships

Hi,

I recently finished up some resin ships to add to my fleet and thought Id share them with yall. This fleet is my reimagined Eastern Alliance fleet as inspired from the Battlestar Prometheus fan fic  Battlestar Prometheus .

You'll notice the guns on the Alliance ships are bigger and maybe there aren't as many as on a Colonial ship. I heard and liked the theory that this is due to the lower tech of the Alliance and that they make up for it with bigger guns. Their carrier also supports more fighters than a typical battlestar since their fighters are also of lower quality. Once again, it's the "quantity vs. quality" argument.

Here's a couple group shots:

And here's one with this group facing off against a Colonial group:

Here's a few shots of the other ships. The rest of the pictures can be seen here: http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h20/Jedispyke/Alliance%20ships/

Carrier:

Heavy Dreadnaught

Cruisers (Missle and standard) Note: The 4 guns on top of the standard cruiser are Ravenstar guns I added. The ship had rounded domes there before. The missle pods are some of Novastar's, but wern't originally on there)

Fast attack ship (middle) and escort destroyers:

So what do you think?

Star Wars Ships and Vehicles / Re: Strike Mech
« on: February 20, 2007, 04:09 PM »
It looks great and promising...  ;D

but isn't this all a bit too mechwarrior/alien/starshiptroopers a-like.... :-\

Thanks, Commander. It is verging on the Mech Warrior side, but you can also look at it as a side progression of the AT-PTs to the AT-ST.

I put the shield generator on there to help keep it in the Star Wars universe.   ;)

Star Wars Ships and Vehicles / Strike Mech
« on: February 20, 2007, 09:22 AM »
The AT-FK Strike Mechs of the 5th Mech Battalion often detach squads of Mechs and Exo-suits to support troops on a variety of missions. Once the mech pilots know the mission specifics, they can arm their mechs with the best payload to meet the goals. This Mech, part of Beta Squad, has been loaded for an urban assault against a Separatist stronghold. High Command wants prisoners to question so an ion cannon has been added to the side port of the main gun. Additionally, a twin blaster has been added to the roll bar to aid the pilot in knocking out structures without causing total destruction. Intel shows Hailfire droids and Trade Federation tanks are defending some major points so the pilot has opted to add an MML pod as an offset to the main twin laser cannons. The addition of a portable shield generator was a must as this will be close in fighting with a high potential for ambush.

Exo-suit troops also support the Strike Mechs. To increase survivability, these suits are equiped with an internal shield generator similar to Destroyer Droids. Not strong enough to protect it from a major hit, but plenty strong enough against small arms fire. The primary mission of the exo-troops is to clear out those areas too tight for Mechs but too dangerous to send in troops first.

As you can see in this shot, the Mech can still be dropped by the DragonHawk

The ion cannon & twin blasters can be swapped out for other small weapon packs

And since I've probably already put too many pics up as it is, click here for more pics including close-ups of the shield generator and MML pod.

So what do y'all think?

Thanks!

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Fodder Alert!
« on: February 6, 2007, 03:53 PM »

Hey guys,

Saw some new figures (new to me, anyway) over at WM at lunch. Both sets deal with motor cycle riders and seem to be better scaled and articulated than some of the earlier bikers. They were both in the hot wheels side of the isle but should be easy enough to find. They were priced the same as SW figures.

One that I almost picked up was a 'heavy rider' and had a mohawk and leathe gear. Would make a great bounty hunter/scum with just a bit of work on his chest.

Sorry, no pics....

This may not be exactly fodder, but have y'all seen the $5 sized Ben-10 figures? The four armed guy & little grey guy would fit right into any SW scene. There are other figures that may work also, depending on your taste.  There's also a dog type of creature that would make a good beast.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Supportive Spouses...

I have to say, my wife (of 17 years) doesn't mind at all. She knows I won't spend money on hobbies if it would cause us trouble. She's just glad I have a hobby that lets her know where I am and that I'm not off getting into some trouble.  ;)

She tells me they are 'cute' and loves to poke at me by calling them "babies".

Very cool, i like the silver plating, what did you use? Ayya Vida and what else?

Thanks Glassman...

You're correct on the Ayya Vida body. Though I cut down her hip joint, to make her not be quite so wide-stanced. Because of this, the back, or rather her backend looked a a little wierd, so I "installed" an Aayla Secura backend. ::)

For the silver plating I used aluminum tape, cut in very small and specific pieces to fit over the contour of the body, and to look like panels. I finally used silver paint to give it a bit of a wash, and to fill in at the joints.

Thanks again!

Wow, that is a very interesting take on a Betty Bot! I never would have thought to take an actual female figure(s) and then silver plate them. It gives it the smooth (and purposly sexy) curves the Betty Bots had. The idea of cutting small pieces of aluminum tape is very ingenious also. The panel look was VERY good.

Could we get some clear pictures of JUST the droid?

Oh, and Lando looks very spiffy himself. I do agree about the cape though...

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Custom Ship

Back in the day when Hasbro was producing 7 foot Aircraft Carriers and Space Shuttles with launch facilities, you mean?

Those were the days. Now we can't even get a Sith Infiltrator out of them...

-DD

I've got one of those shuttles (don't know which one) and plan on making a cargo ship out of it. It's got all the parts except the two outside wings, so it's pretty cool. One thing I would like to do is replace the wheels with skid plates like most SW vehicles use. Anybody tried that?

Here is my UG-L1 droid

He took a little under a day to make. I started out trying to make a Bollux and Blue max, but that road only led to tears. But luckily I got to cobble together the rest of the parts and make this ....thing. Its so ugly it's cool.
His head arms and legs come from a Dollar tree X-treme racer figure. Its some horrible, cheap Power renger knock-off it's even got a Power ranger head. But it was in scale so I snagged it. The torso is a EII saga 3PO that I popped the head and limbs off of. The chestplate is a B.A.T.'s from G.I.Joe that I added by drilling a hole into the 3PO chest to make fit. Its removable, but I forgoot to snap a pic of that.

Now why would he be bitter? I could understand if his name had been BT-UGL1.... ;)

Really slick use of the BAT panel. I had thought about picking up a two pack of those and using the more advanced head as the head for a UVH droid. Still may do that... If those BATs had less human looking legs, I really would have snagged them.

Anyway, as others have said, that's a nice mix of cheap fodder parts. I sure wish they'd release more figure lines that are in scale with SW!!

Revenge of the Sith / Build your own lightsaber
« on: August 17, 2005, 03:41 PM »

Now that these are showing up in the stores and some people are getting them, I've got a question: How are they sized? It looks like some parts are about 'normal' size, but most of them are oversized like the electronic sabers.

I was really wanting this but now that I've seen it, I don't know.
