Big update today!

2
Hey guys,
After years and years of looking at custom dioramas on this board, i decided to get off my butt and make one myself that involved more than using packaging or photos from the internet. After finally getting a non-buff Ceremony Luke and that nifty honor guard, and seeing BespinJedi34's cool version, I got some foamcore, an exacto knife, some balsa wood, a little light plaster and acrylic paint and let my creativity flow in a physical way (I'm a musician, so most of my creative energy gets focused there...btw - check out www.TheLightsOut.com for free mp3s!)

First time making anything out of foamcore and the last time I picked up a paintbrush was in 10th grade art class in 1990.

another update.... added some endor shots and some tantive IV shots... enjoy!

I got this set a couple days ago... i couldn't resist more clones... what's happening to me? Fortunately, I now have enough Star Corps troopers (and that nifty packaging!) to re-create the demise of Aayla Secura:

Heh heh... good call! I don't actually have the Jedi Spirits scene yet... Thanks for reminding me! I just put a bid on one on eBay so hopefully, you'll be seeing that one soon!

damn brentS that looks really good. The thing i like most about the comic style is that the focus is put more on the imagery. With the quality of mold that hasbro is putting out these days, when you get in REAL close with the camera, you can really 're-create' that movie feeling which is what got me hooked on star wars in the first place. I've never been able to get into the novels because for me, the whole appeal of the star wars universe was the visual aspect.

Awesomely gorgeous, as always!!!

I don't like the use of the brand new Tatooine wave Han.  Don't mind it for the "I don't have it with me" bit, since that's what his arm was sculpted to do, but I would have used him as little as possible and switched back to VOTC immediately.

but that is a minor nitpick.  This is friggin' GREAT!!!!

Now please go make an original photonovel!  I love your work!!!

Yeah, I totally know what you mean. I originally had switched back to the VOTC Han when the finger bits weren't there, but it looked really weird switching figures mid page like that. And when I used the VOTC han for the bits where he's holding up his fingers, it totally looked dumb. So I sucked it up and went for crappy cantina han for those 2 pages.

Oh, and I needed the VOTC Han to get the "leg" in there...

I replied at RS, but let me comment again here.

I really think this looks FANTASTIC.  It really looks like a comic book come to life.

The layout, the picture quality, the lettering are first rate.  Bravo.

Because you are clearly a very creative and very visual person, I think you should let your imagination run wild and create an original story.

I know you said you were a stickler about backgrounds and such....

Well, head on over to niubniubsuniverse.com or erikstromtrooper gallery download some textures and make some dios!  They don't have to be super elaborate.

Use your cantina set, use the Jabba set, prowl the internet for more images, etc.

Your talent is CRYING OUT for an original photonovel, man!  Get cracking!!

heh heh... it's funny you should say that, i've got all those sites bookmarked and have a ton of backgrounds downloaded and printed out. Hell, i've been saving the Saga2 cardbacks because of the 'background' possibilities.

I've been thinking about making the foray into dioramas, the only thing keeping me from jumping into that fire has been space issues. I've got 40+ mini-scenes set up and it's a little overwhelming as it is. But it's something i've really been thinking about lately.

OK. I posted this over at Rebelscum, but I figured that I'd share it with you guys as well. This is my first attempt at doing something like this. It's the results of playing with two new toys, my first digital camera and this thing that came bundled with my new iMac called ComicLife. I had fun playing around and here are the results! Enjoy!

UPDATE: 9/5/06 - Scene 3 Added!

Scene 1:

Scene 2:

Scene 3:

-----------------

So that's it, hope you guys enjoyed it. I certainly enjoyed making it!

1. Bespin Han Solo - current sculpt is OK, but an SA version would be sweet
2. VOTC Boba Fett - ESB colors
3. Toryn Farr (sp?) - she sticks in one's head enough to warrant a figure
4. SA Snowtrooper - duh.
5. Medical Frigate Luke
6. Medical Frigate Leia
7. New Ugnauts - different than the last batch for us diorama people
8. Piett - needs an update
9. Hoth Pilots - with the puffy suits
10. Rebel Hoth Soldier - that last one was pretty abysmal

***DELUXE FIGURE? - I think it'd be really cool to see a scale probe droid with a ridiculously detailed sculpt.

wow, i didn't realize how few choices were left out there for ESB characters. I hope to god that they DON'T MAKE THE #*$(&#$% ICE CREAM MAKER GUY! I don't know what you people are thinking.
