Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: Star Wars

On an actual Star Wars comics topic.  I picked up SW ongoing issue #2 this week.  Cover art is just absolutely fantastic, still haven't had a chance to read it.

Disney is now in the works to buy AMC... in the season finale I heard Boba Fett is rumored to swoop in and take everyone out!

The more I think about it...I think were SW kinda ran into it's own dilema is that I would say that Eveyone agrees the OT was just phenominal.  On the other hand, the Prequels were received with mixed reviews.

That said, we have people that have been arond for 30+ years now and we've lived though the same fiures over and over and over. So, if you'regoing to be bringing out the OT all over a gain for the 67 and a half time...I just see where the novelty eventually wears off somewhat.  Even if you're thatdie hard OT guy and an eternal optimist you can only see 634 different (and same) versions of Han Solo released over 30+ years before you say oh great...another han.

As as the prequel characters..even though they've only been out for about 14 years o so.. still I think you can only see Obi-Wan i his brow tunic so many times before you say...great ANOTHER Obi Wan.  3 3/4", 6", 12" 8 1/2"...whatever.  As bad as the companies are for churning out product over and over and over again...they became their worst enemies.

I caught the Hines Ward moment.  Pretty cool, ad neatto see him get in there.  I was listening to a few minutes of my local news this morning and they mentioned that T-Dog was an old teamate of Hine's and supposedly helped get him into that cameo.

Pretty neat.

A) The Hines Ward came was just great!
B) I would have rather seen daryll have to knock the guy out and as the guy falls, have the loded crossbow pop up in the air, he catches it, spins and nails a walker.  vs. just grabbing it off of him.  It still works as sort of a "gimme that" moment and all, but I thought it could have been a little better.

Good epsiode, sets a lot of things up for the season.

Lots of missed moments...

Personally, I would heve liked to see the Prequels start with Attack of the clones.  Maybe just take Maul from TPM and stick him in the first movie.

They could have dove into more of the Jedi. Specifcally Obi-Wan..would have likd to see his development even more.  Only a few minutes of them battling the droids wasn't enough.  Missed diving into the main characters themselves.  They almost seemed like a simple background character themselves.

Clones...more of the battles.  Also wold have liked to see more prototype moments similar to when we see the plas for th Death Star.

More linking the OT to te prequels..  Woul have liked to see more tim spent on places like Alderaan...give you mor to go on, and more to feel for the people of the planet when it was destroyed in the original movie.  Tie it in more somehow.  Also, would hae liked tosee more of te beginnings of the Reellion...they could have done more vs. deleting the scenes showing it more as an underground movement.

I think they shoud have started out showing ho the Galaxy was at peace and was flourishing before the politcs came in and the Clone Wars ravaged everything.  They kind of dive into the politics, ad yo never got a full feeling everythig was great before the Empire and bad after.  They missed showing the big picture to dive into the small stories of too many characters.

I love anything Star Wars, and to me even BAD star Wars is better than 95% of what Hollwood is churning out these days.

I call them good movies, that could have been done much much better.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Rumor: No more 3D Prequel Releases?
« on: February 5, 2013, 12:02 PM »
As much as I think I would have enjoyed the 3D moves...

I'm kinda flip flopping my answer around.  On  positive note, by " postponing " the 3D movies, I'm hoping the break in the action will have audiences craving a new Star Wars movie even more!

5 3D movies put out in just 2 years may dilute the anticipation a bit???  I think this makes it even more of an "event" than it does "just aother movie".

We'll see.

Star Wars Universe / Re: Star Wars Movie Spin-Offs?

Maybe I'm in the inority here, but I really don't want stand alone movies that tell a characters background.  I fee we're walking in to a bit of trap with this one (wheres Ackbar when you need him?)

Hollywood seems to be in this preqel kick, and I don't know where or why everyone is hangng thier hats onbackstories, but somewhere someone is going to figure out that it takes away from the suspense of the movie.  If we get any stand alones, I want it wth figures aht are developing the story, not retelling it.

I think you'll see all the hype for EP VII becasue we al wantto know whats going to happen AFTER ROTJ not before it.

I think this is why we all go to see SW prequels and LOTR prequels, bu come out wiht a half empt feeling... nomatter HOW god the films actuall are.

Suspese, anticipation, shock, wonder...all this, while not entirely being taenaway, is somewhat diminished, so you're setting the bar for the fans a little lower right from the start.

New stuff new stories, lets move frward not backwards.

LEGO / Re: Recent Acquisitions
« on: February 4, 2013, 04:56 PM »
Finally got my Star Wars Marvel comic #102 which completes the vintage SW comic run for me.  Should be delivered in a few days.  Finally just broke down and paid about $7 for it.  After losing multiple auctions for it, and just could not find it cheap in the local comic bins either.

That's really about it.  Sngged the 3D TPM wave a few weeks ago at 5 Below for $5.

Bought the little one a DS ObiWa pen stylist thingy, a $1 box ofSW Valentines at 5 Below and some  4 pack Fighter Pods for $3.  Also grabbed the Boba Fett collapsable water bottle at Target in the $1 bin this weekend.

Little stuff...  fun stuff.

The last 2 episodes have been fantastic.  As a fan o th EU, these stories really help, and tie in nicely.

A lot of folks found the Pacifst Mandalores a bit off...th last 2 episodes certainly help bring this back around.   The Maul/Pre Visla fight was as epic as you can probbly get for a TV cartoon series.  Lots to like with these 2 episodes...they both have me wanting more. Mot f the episodes have been either hit or miss for me  (probably as many hits as misses) but the last 2 epsiodes are what I've longed for.

Good stuff!

Other Toy Lines / Re: The Walking Dead

Love this show!  One of my all time favs!

Plus just saw the new ad cards at mylocal comic shop for the next season "Eye for and eye"

I just got all th various collectors edition Blu Ray's for Xmas..been watching everthing from the start again.  While the extras are really good, I jus wis there were moreof them.  Plus, I'd love to see more of the comic series in the extras, maybe some exclusve comic book stuff, or digital copies of th originals, or a nice series showing the side by side comparisons of frames in the comic vs. the TV show...characters, places, zombies, etc. etc.

All good stuff!

Kubricks / Re: Where is everyone?

Hi!  Still here. 8)

I kinda like the initial looks of the 6" line, but I'm also torn.   Seeing the Luke... the figure itself looks great, plusthe packaging is really nice!  I also like how the accessories are not just packed in, but almost displayed.  Very much aimed at the collector.

I say I "kinda" like the line, and I'm probably goin to buy it, but I may wait ad play the clearance deals on this one, ad see what happens.  Iget that odd feeling I'm going to get burned if I shell out $20 a pop over and over again with this line.

I'd be gung ho for it, but I just don't have the trust in Hasbro they'll treat this line well.  I completely get that they are a company and thier #1 goal will be to make money and keep thier investors happy.  No secrets there.  I just think there's a way to mke money AND keep collectors happy.  Maybe  say "Hey, let's keep things going with all the toys and all like we always do, but what if we just steppd aside and had this nice little 6" line and devote it to the collectors/fans.  We'll treat it a little different an try not to bastardize it.  We may not make as much as the rest of the stuff we churn out, but it will make our fanbase happy, and it might just give them a warm fuzzy feeling, put the fun bck into it all, and keep them coming back for more...for the long haul...which would be a good thing for everyone

...wouldn't it?

Other Collectibles / NEW Star Wars Golf Bag prototype
« on: January 28, 2013, 11:31 AM »
I was at the PGA show in Orlando, FL this past wek, and o Sat. I happened to spot a Star Wars golf bag behind the Hornung's booth.  Cought my eye, and come to find out it' a prototype.  it looks great, and supposed to sell around $150 (better than the $500 or whatever it was price tag on the last one)

It's black with th classic Star Wars gold logo in a few spots includng the strap.  It has a Vader helmet pocet (picture te Vader vinyl club cover only slapped on the side of the bag as a pocket.  The embroidery was awesome.  It had the Vader helmet embroidered on the side.  They are telling me that it will be changed to the full Vader costume, flowing cape and all eventually, and is still in the works.

Neat stuff, unfortunately no pics allowed, and once I asked he hid it bhind the booth.

Other Collectibles / Re: Star Wars Fighter Pods
« on: January 21, 2013, 11:08 AM »
The Fighter Pods sold out within days at my 5 Below.  FYI, the same 4 packs were goin for $9.99 at TRU as a few other places.  I'm split on these.   don't collect them, but we'e bough some for hte kids and they seem to love them.

I actually like the, and the fact that thy tae up so litte space is appealing.  I just can't see startig a new "blind packed" collection.  Always seems (in any "bind pack" collectable) to end up  beng hundreds of commons that aren't worth crap, and just one or two really expensive peices everyone istrin to scramble to get and really HTF.
