Other Toy Lines / Re: McFarlane Sportspicks
« on: May 31, 2005, 08:16 AM »
TRU and stores like Gamestop seem to be among the few that really carry Sports Picks.  The line got super hot and it seems that it's peaked.  I know they aren't as hard to find around me as they had been, and the area is inundated with collectors and scalpers.

On a related note, I've heard that Todd McFarlane is going to scale back on the number of variants that ship in a case.  I think they're trying to make the line hot again by making things harder to find.

Power of the Jedi / Re: favorite POTJ figure
« on: May 29, 2005, 03:01 PM »
There were definitely several great POTJ figures.  This line ranks as one of my favorites in the modern era.  Only the VOTC line beats out POTJ, IMO.

5 -  Coruscant Guard
4 - Imperial Officer
3 - Sandtrooper
2 - Han Solo - Bespin Capture
1 - FX-7

Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS - #57 and beyond
« on: May 29, 2005, 09:26 AM »
Here is my realistic guess at what we might get.  It's not necessarily a wishlist.

Collection 1 - Core characters, most army builders
-Yoda - Senate Chamber force battle
-Padme Amidala - Senator (Anakin, Obi-Wan & Palpatine's arrival)
-Commander Cody
-Emporer Palpatine - Senate Chamber force battle
-Special Operations Clone Trooper (blue markings)
-Mace Windu - SA, softgoods

Collection 2 - Secondary characters
-2-1B Droid
-Ongree Jedi Council member
-Utai docking facility worker
-Fireship Pilot
-Security Battle Droid
-"Bettie" Protocol Droid
-V-Wing Pilot

Only twice so far.  But I'm looking forward to seeing it at least three more times.

JD Sports Forum! / Re: What was LeBron thinking...
« on: May 28, 2005, 11:44 AM »
Oh, I agree that him helping his friends can backfire on him.  They're not professionals, definitely.  But in the same regard, there have been plenty of professional agents who have ripped off their clients.

With regard to his shoe deal and other major endorsements, I think he's probably going to have people like Jay Z and Russell Simmons handle those deals.  They're smart, modern business men.  If he leaves other small business to his friends, they can probably handle some of the personal matters.  They'll probably screw a few things up.  But, LeBron needs to take responsibility for putting them in those positions of responsibility for his money.

Palpatine tells the newly dubbed Darth Vader "Only one has learned the secrets of eternal life.  Together we will unlock the secrets of the force..."

That seems to rule out Palpatine to me.

the secrets to eternal life wouldn't necessarily be the same thing as the secrets to creating life. plus he never says that the one person wasn't him, he just says to Anakin we will unlock the secrets of the force. that doesn't necessarily mean he is not aware of what the secrets are, just that he will be helping Anakin to find them.

It came across as if the powers are related.  And if only one Sith came to master these powers, it seems that the one would be responsible for the immaculate conception.  The story of Darth Plagueis and his powers only seems to be bait from Palpatine to lure Anakin Skywalker to the dark side.  For when Palpatine reveals that only one has achieved the powers of eternal life, it seems that he revealed his own deception to Darth Vader.

If Palpatine were responsible for Anakin's birth, it would all seem far too convenient, IMO.  It definitely seems that this was intentionally left unresolved.  The origins of many mythological and religious figures have been in many cases ambiguous or mysterious.  There's the Christ analogy for one.  Then there are the numerous heroes of Greek mythology such as Hercules and Perseus who were supposedly children of the Gods, and the story of Rome's Romulus and Remus who were raised by wolves.  Lucas seems to be drawing heavily on these traditions to form some of Anakin's story.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Prequel to a Prequel?
« on: May 28, 2005, 11:23 AM »
Who came up with this one...Supershadow?  ;D  I really think that the movies are done.  Star Wars is going to live on, but not in movie theaters.

I wouldn't be opposed to this storyline being explored in an EU animated series.  But the timeline sounds way off.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: ROTS Easter Eggs
« on: May 26, 2005, 11:06 PM »
I thought finding Animation Director Rob Coleman, and IMLer's John Knoll and Roger Guyett was a find.  They were in the opera box next to Palpatine and Anakin.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: How big is your army?
« on: May 26, 2005, 05:37 PM »
The ROTS Armies continue to grow...

ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC
15 x #6 Clone Troopers
6 x Clone Pilot
4 x Clone Commander
7 x AT-TE Gunners
4 x Target Clone Troopers
2 x Deluxe Clone Troopers
4 x #41 Clone Trooper
1 x BARC Speeder with BARC Trooper
2 x AT-RT with AT-RT Driver

SENATE
4 x Royal Guard (red)
4 x Royal Guard (blue)

SEPERATISTS
4 x General Grievous's Bodyguards
1 x Super Battle Droid
1 x Super Battle Droid from Deluxe Obi-Wan
2 x Battle Droid
2 x Tri-Droid Fighters
1 x Vulture Droid with Buzz Droid
1 x Neimoidian Warrior

WOOKIEE ARMY
10 x Sneak Preview Wookiee Warrior
5 x #43 Wookiee Warrior (tan)
4 x #43 Wookiee Warrior (brown)
4 x Yarua
1 x Rorrworr
1 x Tarfful
1 x Chewbacca

I think I'm going to seriously cut back on the the regular Clone Troopers.  Considering that you only see about 20 or so all white Clones in ROTS, it seems kind of silly to have quite so many all white Clone Troopers.  I'll probably get a few more of Clone Trooper #41, but after that I'm going to hold off on more regular Clones until they start offering repaints of the Utapau, Spec Ops and Shock Trooper legions.

Dr. J looks awesome.  Between the 70's 'fro and the ABA ball, it's a sweet looking figure.
