Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: Where to start (comics)?
« on: May 16, 2003, 03:52 PM »
REPUBLIC is definitely turning into a great title.  I think the art in the latest issue was some of the best I've seen.  EMPIRE has been pretty good, too.  The first 4 issues were excellent.  And INFINITIES is a great "what if" title.

As for some other things?

Jedi Council: Acts Of War available in trade paperback
The Hunt For Aurra Sing available in trade paperback

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Star Tours wave 3 FINALLY!

I called the Florida number you provided, MAC.  They told me that while the figures are available at the parks, they don't think they're going to have them available for mail order until June 16th.  I believe that's when Star Wars weekends end.

The operator I spoke with at the Disneyland service in California told me that they didn't even have them available at their park in Anaheim, let alone for mail-order.

Looks like an in-person visit or someone who can visit for you is the only immediate hook-up for STAR TOURS wave 3.

Here, here, Snively!  As a Fan Club member, I really appreciate it if this Silver Boba Fett is indeed made available to the membership who can't attend the summer conventions.  The East Coast does seem to be getting the cold shoulder in the conventions that were selected:

Origins
Columbus Convention Center
Columbus, OH
June 26 - 29

Comic-Con International
San Diego Convention Center
San Diego, CA
July 17 – 20

Gen Con Indy
Indiana Convention Center
Indianapolis, IN
July 24 - 27

Wizard World Chicago
Donald E. Stephens Convention Center
Rosemont, IL
August 8 – 10

Why isn't the Fan Club going to be at Wizard World in Philadelphia?  That seems to be a legitimate question to me.

I'd definitely like to see one.  Perhaps it's on tap for next year's line?  We can't get everything at once, after all!

The only downside I see are the complaints (groan, uggghhh) about how it's not to scale.

Samuel L. Jackson and Frank Oz would be great additions!  I may have a lead on Frank Oz doing a signing, too.

Carrie Fisher was certainly memorable.  Our brief conversation was a little brusque, but certainly funny.  And this was at the end of Celebration 2.  I got up at 5AM to get on line from C2 that day.  All told, I think I waited about 5 hours or so until I got in to get Carrie Fisher's signatures.

One of the most memorable people I had sign was William Hootkins.  What a nice and incredibly funny guy!  He was an absolute blast.  He was bantering back and forth with Richard LeParmentier at Celebration 2, and they made waiting in lines a lot more tolerable.

I don't have COA's on any of my autographs.  But since I'm not selling any of them and I witnessed the celebrities signing everything firsthand, I'm comfortable not having COA's.

Good score, wai!  I've been trying to get Silas Carson for a little while now.  I went to two shows he was supposed to appear at, and he cancelled both of them.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Newest Deluxes - much better Hasbro!
« on: May 16, 2003, 10:48 AM »
Overall, I really like these Deluxe offerings.  They're far superior to some of the Deluxe losers of last year (ie force-flipping, slashing Anakin, Jetpack Jango).

I like the way they paired up Jango & Obi-Wan.  They're really giving thought to inter-connectibility, and that it's an added bonus to openers.  The same goes for the Super Battle Droid builder.  I honestly can't see myself building too many SBD's, but the press is a nice addition to my growing Droid Factory.

My personal favorite of the bunch is Obi-Wan.  First, I'm just a big fan of the character.  Second, it's a robed version that looks pretty good, especially in his drenched Kamino look.  I can overlook the lack of leg articulation in this instance.  Plus, I think the action feature is about as unobtrusive as it could possibly be.

The Dwarf Spider Droid is cool, too.  I like the sculpt, although I think I got a gimpy one.  He only takes a couple of steps before he gets too pooped to pop.  Still, a good idea using fairly old design and technology.

I've yet to successfully get Jango to stick to his pillar.  It's just going to take a little practice, methinks.

Overall, I think these are some good offerings.

I had been toying with the idea of going to Wizard World in Chicago.  I've never been to that show, or Chicago.  So, this figure might've sealed the deal.

It's supposed to be a great show.  Hasbro's going to be there, showing off some new goodies.  Plus, an exclusive?  They had to twist my arm!

And if I do go, and the Cubbies are in town, I might just have to catch a game at Wrigley field.

« on: May 16, 2003, 10:35 AM »
Gee Chewy, you're recycling some golden oldies from the Rebelscum boards!

I think these figures are going to come in time.  As we keep on getting better revisions of the core characters, we're sure to get newer Stormtrooper versions of Han & Luke.  I think it's mainly a matter of when, rather than if.

Thanks, wai.  I only got into autograph collecting in the past couple of years.  It's a lot of fun.  A big part of my enjoyment of this aspect of the hobby is the interaction  with the celebrities.  They're a very nice and gracious group of people.

A lot of my collection is due to my visit to Celebration 2 in Indianapolis last May.  That's where a lot of the harder to get signatures came from.  Including Carrie Fisher.

I'm also looking forward to getting Anthony Daniels and Natalie Portman as additions to the collection.  And right now, I'm working on a contact for Ewan McGregor.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can get that one.

$19 each?  Not totally sold on that price.  Besides, I need to get Obi-Wan, Luke, and Palpatine first.

Well, the average person would just say I'm Italian.  But, there's more to it than that.

I am...
1/2 Sicilian
1/2 Southern Italian

There is actually a difference between Italians and Sicilians.
