There's something strange about the price point on this.  I saw the Amazon listing for $29.99, but Hasbro had a pricetag of $19.99 for it at Celebration 3.  They have been wrong on their pricing though, since they listed the Target Clone Trooper for $9.99 at C3 and I got mine at Target for $12.99.

I can see the Obi-Wan version of this piece coming down the pipe at some point.  The blue Jedi Starfighter Obi-Wan takes to Utapau has to be coming, too.  I can't see Hasbro NOT taking advantage of completists like that.  Maybe KayBee will be picking that one up since they had the AOTC Obi-Wan with Starfighter.

Sorry, but I think the whole hookers angle is rather silly too.  Hasbro's said for years it's just a licensing issue with the actresses.  I'm sure if there was a problem with the characters they portray in the films, they would've mentioned that at some point, since it wouldn't be all that big of a deal to address a topic of that nature to a lot of adult collectors to appease them.

Hmm, let's do the math...

Figures of prostitutes have bio on cardback

Public Relations Disaster

It's entirely possible that Hasbro and/or Lucasfilm have been dodging the issue over the years using the licensing issue to mask the fact that they don't want to make figures of two Mos Eisly prostitutes.  Seriously, this could be a big PR issue for the two companies that they might be all too happy to avoid.  That may be why we've been getting the licensing excuse all these years.

Perhaps the holdup has not been with Hasbro, but rather with Lucasfilm.  Has anyone ever considered that LFL might have held this up for the self-same reason?  Nothing gets made without LFL's golden stamp of approval.

There are so many steps in the process where things can get held up.  We may think we know all of the reasons, but will we ever REALLY know?  I could see both LFL and Hasbro having concerns about these characters, and for a number of reasons.

I highly doubt that was a factor.

Think about it.  This is a toy line.  Originally conceived for children to play with and enjoy.  The collector thing came much later, but it's still in the minds of the manufacturer a line for kids.  You would seriously put out figures of characters that are nicknamed by the filmmaker as "star whores", and all of their backstory is salacious in nature?  Right.

Really?  Cool.  That may be a shot that can already be seen on the DVD Edition of Trivial Pursuit.  It's Darth Vader (pre-lava bath) reporting in to the Emporer after slaughtering the Seperatist leadership.  That is so much easier to write in a spoiler forum.  :)

I should certainly have tried to be more clear.  I would like to see some of the Seperatist leaders.  However, I would like to see some of the characters who were not made.  Scott brought up Po Nudo, and I think that's a great choice.  There was also one figure who was rather shadowy in the Geonosian War Room.  Characters who have not been previously made interest me far more than yet another Nute Gunray, or some revision of Passel Argente.

You left out the Neimoidian Warrior, Chewie.  But yes, the Seperatists aren't getting that much play.  The Tank Droid and the Droid Gunship would be very welcome in my collection.

Thing is, the Seperatists aren't the main villains of the movie.  As such, I can see why they would get marginalized.  The Empire and the Sith are the main enemies of REVENGE OF THE SITH.  The Seperatists are merely pawns, just as they have been all along.  Would it be nice to get some of the Seperatist leadership?  Sure.  I see them being a good source for Collection 2 in late '05 and early '06.  But how many Nute Gunray's do we really need?

The nickname for the characters might've had something to do with it.  They were after all known as "Star whores".

Getting this piece was certainly easier than getting the blue Clone Trooper in Chicago in 2003.  Even though it meant lining up at 4:45 in the morning, those of us on line at that time were pretty well assured of getting the piece.

Compare this with Wizard World in Chicago, 2003.  That was insane.  Because Gentle Giant let just about anyone at Comic Con in San Diego get one, in Chicago you got a raffle ticket and had to check back at the booth every day in the hopes that you might get lucky and win a mini-bust.  The last day of that was like some kind of bloodsport.  There were only about 40 pieces left, and the numbers were called out with an angry mob around the Gentle Giant booth.  If you didn't claim your mini-bust inside of ten seconds it was gone!  And then you had to line up to get the piece after all of the commotion, while people were offering you money for your winning ticket.

After having been through that, yeah, I think Celebration 3 went a bit more smoothly.

Gentle Giant / Re: Bust Ups!

Nope, the Toy Fair Boba Fett is the same piece as the one that shipped in Bust Ups Series 3.  The Bust Ups version of the Boba Fett mini-bust was just a test/display piece that Gentle Giant was showing off at conventions and trade shows.  Gentle Giant did the same thing with Darth Vader, making a Bust Ups version of the Vader mini-bust.  That piece was never offered, either.

As for my Toy Fair Boba Fett...no deal.  I already opened it, and the plastic with "Toy Fair 2005" is long gone.

Do you guys know if they're going to come out with a blue Clonetrooper like the one from ToyFare 2 years ago?  Also do you know if there will be any arm variations like the stormtroopers?

Gentle Giant has been mum about ANY AOTC era Clone Troopers.  They showed off those Clone Troopers when they introduced the Bust Ups line at Toy Fair in 2004, but they still have yet to make them part of the line.  Based on the fact that they have been produced at some level though, I think it's a safe bet that they could be part of the lineup for Bust Ups series 5 or 6.  However, that's pure speculation on my part.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is about the Toy Fair Boba Fett.  It's the same one that came out of the box in Bust Ups Series 3.  It just came in a little plastic baggie that said Toy Fair 2005.

I've yet to open any of the ones I picked up.  Is this the same figure as Clone Trooper #6?  Or is this a different sculpt?

It was also pointed out during the Q&A that the initial Cantina wave should absolutely not be used as a gauge for sales, given the crappy rehash figures included in those sets.  I can't remember who stated that, the same obnoxious guy that commented on nearly everything and was subsequently ignored by Hasbro for the entire Q&A session until the last  :P

Uh...   :D

Yeah, never stick me in the first row in front of a Q & A in front of a bunch of Hasbro reps, or they'll never hear the end of it!  ;)

Really?  I hadn't noticed.  ;)

Need sleep, but thought I'd get pics of series 4 up for you folks as I imagine I'll be a wee bit busy at work tomorrow.  As always, photobucket is giving me grief with orientation and apologies for the quality at times:

So the series is:
Sidious/Palpatine
Obi-Wan
Grievous
Anakin
Yoda (OT)
Clone Trooper - 3 versions: green, red, yellow - presumably a couple of chase??

I forgot to upload the Anakin and Yoda figures. The Yoda is indeed OT.  I'll get it in soon.

Brent, the AOTC Clone Troopers are NOT part of series 4.  Here's the lineup as it stands now:

Sidious/Palpatine
Obi-Wan
Grievous
Anakin
Yoda - Dagobah
Clone Trooper - ROTS version, white

The chase piece in series 4 may be a paint variant of the Clone Trooper, but nothing has been announced yet.  Don't expect an answer on that until July.

Gentle Giant has shown the AOTC Clone Troopers since Toy Fair of 2004, and they have not included them in a series thus far.  I inquired with Gentle Giant as to when they might be available, but they have yet to make any sort of announcement about the AOTC Clone Troopers.
