The Vintage Collection / Re: Hasbro Q&A Sessions
« on: December 8, 2011, 06:37 PM »
When I look at the diminished number of Clone Wars animated figures that are scheduled for next year, it would leave ANYBODY wondering where this line is going.  But then I think back to this figure that was shown at NYCC:

Could this new movie-realistic CW Anakin Skywalker be the new direction of Clone Wars figures?  And could we see some kind of a consolidation of the Star Wars basic figure lines?  Given the way things appear to be selling, I think that may be a distinct possibility.

Looks like a good cast so far.  It seems like it may be sitting a tiny bit high on the neck post.  Now is this a full head sculpt, or a helmet?

One thing you might want to be prepared for if you cast is that it may shrink.  This is something that even Hasbro can't avoid with production at the mass scale.  So give it a decent ammount of time to cool.  Otherwise you might run into potential deformities.

Found the Walmart exclusive figure & vehicle sets this morning. And yes, the packages do have imagery of the cancelled sets

Finished Dragons last week...for the most part, I liked it the beginning was a little slow but the end made up for it.  Way better than Crows...I can see how these are really books 4a and 4b but I could see that they could have been together with some really heavy editing.

The count starts now for Winter...I'll guess 4 years from now

I just finished A Feast for Crows, and now I'm a few chapters into A Dance with Dragons.  And I agree:  it's like volume 4-A & volume 4-B.  As I read my way through A Feast for Crows I was left wondering what the hell had happened to a number of characters after the end of A Storm of Swords.  And it became very clear that A Feast for Crows had a somewhat more narrow focus on a number of storylines, most notably around the Lannisters.

It leaves me wondering: how will HBO handle this for the show?  After all, it seems as though the events of book 4 & 5 are happening concurrently.  I can't imagine that they would want to see an entire cast of characters just disappear (Jon, Dany, Tyrion, Stannis, etc) while the adaptation of book 4 focuses on the Lannisters, Brienne, Sam, Sansa, Arya & the Iron Men.  But the prospect of combining the two books for one big MEGA-SEASON just seems difficult to comprehend.

Thanks to George for a great trade!  We agreed to terms quickly and the transaction happened just as fast.  I totally recommend trading with him, and would definitely do so in the future.

Darth Maul

That looks like a major step forward for Darth Maul.  I for one appreciate the more neutral facial expression.  The articulation is very much appropriate to Maul.  And the softgoods look well done.  Maul's horns do look a little stubby though, but I think that may be attributable to safety standards more than anything else.

I agree with Jayson:  some better paint apps on the lightsaber hilt would be much appreciated.  But in the totality of the figure I think it may be a picking point, and not a real deal breaker.

That's the neighborhood.  But as the flagship store in the chain the Times Square store does get stocked reasonably well.  The crowds are part of that trade-off.

I saw a couple at TS TRU if you're that desperate, Ed.

Ugh...I can never really feel desperate enough to shuffle through the Times Square foot traffic, but maybe I'll give it a shot. Are the prices still outrageous?

TVC figures are normally $11.99 at the TS TRU.  I've rarely found anything there that was worth those inflated prices.

Interesting.  The series has finally taken on a storyline that was previously explored in Dark Horse comics.

Finally saw the WalMart exclusive Thor figures.  MEH.

Still trying to find King Loki & Laufey though.  And also trying to find someone who might be interested in splitting a case of the Thor Deluxe figures.  Each case includes TWO Heimdalls.

What elese is in the case Nick?

2 x Heimdall's, 3 x Lightning Fury Thor's & 1 x Blaster Armor Thor.  Here's the listing.  The case is $84.99, and I need all three deluxe figures in the set.

EE had LOADS of Jabba with throne at NYCC.  I guess they took a significant position with this piece, and now they're looking to clear them out.

Collect All 92! / Re: Chief Chirpa
« on: November 23, 2011, 01:22 AM »
It really is remarkable to see the differences between the modern and vintage versions of Chief Chirpa.  The attention to scale alone is astounding.

And the TSC version of Chief Chirpa was a significant transitional point for how Hasbro would approach Ewoks in the future.  It marked the beginning of scaled down Ewok figures that featured significant ammounts of articulation and some pretty cool accessories.  I've been pleasantly surprised to see just how far Hasbro has taken this new Ewok concept since then, along with revisiting some of the Ewoks that had been made in the modern era like Wicket and Logray.  Personally, I like setting up the TSC Chief Chirpa in the Ewok throne that came with the TSC C-3PO.
