I went to the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.  Majored in Mass Communications (TV Broadcast), and had a minor focus on music.  I graduated in 1994, but not before seeing our hockey team, the Cardinals, become the NCAA Div. III National Champions in 1993.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: What's up with availability
« on: June 3, 2003, 08:50 AM »
Availability is a very difficult issue.  But here's my take.

How Hasbro is responsible?  The case assortments.  Some case assortments just have too many of certain characters.  And then they show up in future assortments when the demand has already been filled.  Hence, you get pegwarmers.  Next item for Hasbro:  SKU's are only for Collection 1 & Collection 2.  Individual assortments should be given individual SKU #'s.  It would help the retailers re-order the items that are selling well.

How retailers are responsible?  Over-ordering.  Again.  They did it with EPISODE I.  Those first few waves just warmed the pegs for a long time.  With EPISODE II they did a little bit better this time around, but they didn't look past the 2002 Holiday season in terms of demand.  Hence, we've got too much 2002 stuff on the pegs and shelves and we're already close to Q3 of 2003.

Well, the SAGA Cardback is a different shade of blue.  This is the one the carded Padme & Coleman Trebor have come out on.  The Clone Wars cardback is somewhat red.

I can definitely appreciate your situation Cosmo.  I used to buy a lot of Sports Picks.  But now, I limit myself to players I like, the odd variation, local players, and most of the NFL line.

I haven't bought a single NBA figure for myself, just to trade to friends.  I've been debating getting the NHL5 line.  I'd like to get Roy, Messier and Domi, but I just don't know for certain that I'm going to do it.  McFarlane has said they'll guarantee 1 variant for every whole set that gets ordered, but it's starting to seem more like work than fun to get these.

As for the NFL line, I saw the Super Bowl set at a show in Philadelphia this weekend.  A dealer wanted $200 for them initially.  He then said $175.  I would've gone for it, but I just didn't have the cash available.  What's the top price most of you guys would pay for the Super Bowl set?

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Is Mace Windu a "bad egg"...?
« on: June 2, 2003, 09:23 PM »
I've heard the Mace Windu argument before.  However, I've thought for some time that Ki-Adi Mundi might be the rotten apple.  There are several reasons why.

First, Ki-Adi Mundi was only a Jedi Knight around the time of The Phantom Menace.  Even though he sat on the Jedi High Council, he was the only Knight among a group of Jedi Masters.  Perhaps there was some mistrust of him?

Second, the original databank listing for Ki-Adi Mundi listed him as having a binary brain.  As a result, it gave him insight into both the light side and dark side of the force.  An interesting side note is that this information was removed from his databank listing.  Perhaps it would lead some to conclusions about his as some sort of traitor?

He's also the only Jedi High Council member other than Yoda or MAce Windu who's had lines.  I don't think another mysterious Jedi traitor would arise without any kind of prior appearance in EPISODE I or II.  He also defends Count Dooku while in Palpatine's office.

Just my two cents worth.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Tarkin
« on: June 2, 2003, 09:15 PM »
Tarkin is important in the respect of the rise of the Empire.  He was one of the chief political figures, and was picked expressly for the Death Star.  It leads one to believe with the political direction much of the Prequel Trilogy has taken, that Tarkin might be an important character to be explored in EPISODE III.

Wave 16 is a Clone Wars case assortment.  Wave 17 is a SAGA assortment.

It's a cool idea.  Especially if they can sell it for under $17.  There's plenty of things you could come up with for this.  Seems like it would basically be like a beefed up deluxe figure line, sans the weird action features.

I think I have the perfect actor for Tarkin....

Jason Isaacs

Peter Cushing

And personality-wise, I think he's perfect for the role.

The Original Trilogy / Original Trilogy on bootleg DVD
« on: June 2, 2003, 12:21 PM »
I've seen the Original Trilogy out there as a bootleg DVD set for some time.  This weekend, I was definitely tempted to buy theatrical versions of the OT as a set for $50.  So, here are the questions:

-Are you for or against bootlegging in general?

-Do you have the Original Trilogy as bootleg DVD's?

-If you did, what did you pay?

-Did you get the Special Edition, or the Theatrical Releases?

And lastly, how long do you think it will be until the original trilogy comes out on DVD?

These fine folks were appearing at Wizard World East in nearby Philadelphia.  Each autograph cost $20, but it was definitely worth it to get Daniel Logan.  He routinely charges $40 per signature.

I caught it.  A great episode.  Nate just keeps spiraling into depression, and I think he might've hit rock-bottom.  It looks like there's a lot of potential for nect season.

And immediately after, I watched the season premier of The Wire.  I only caught the first season in re-runs, but it's really good!  And this first episode was definitely interesting.

I fought the urge this weekend.  I heard that Toy Fair Vader's with signatures were selling for at least $200.  Cash would be nice, but it wouldn't be cool to do that.  I'd rather get my Toy Fair Vader signed and keep it myself.
