Wow.  They're not even TRYING to be subtle about differentiating between Darth Malgus and Darth Vader.

I'm not missing Sebulba in this set.  I think he's one character that could stand to be revisited, especially with the current state of figure articulation and how it could be applied to a Dug.  And a new pod race Anakin with modern articulation & sculpting would be a fairly welcome, too.

I'm kind of glad this set is all reissues.  I can skip this set since I got all of these as basic figures.  And considering that there are only a few more pod racers that have yet to be made into figures, I'd rather see a set like this which is ALL reissues and not a mixture of old & new.  That kind of lineup leaves the collector feeling used when you have to buy a multi-pack in order to get 1 or 2 new figures.

And on the general subject of pod racers, there are only another three or four that have yet to be made.  I think that those can get spaced out over time.  As for the pod race vehicles, I agree that it's generally a losing proposition.  MAYBE Anakin and Sebulba's pods could get reissued/retooled, but I don't know that there is an overwhelming desire to get them back into rotation in the vehicle line.

Ok I got an extra set. If this doesn't hit HTS I will give it away here and I am letting everybody know the staff is eligible this time.

+1

Very cool Paul!

This is definitely some positive news.  With the content of the battle packs getting scaled back, along with the economic pressures that are facing consumers in general, the lower price point is certainly welcome.

The MTT a possibility?

I'd love one, but I don't see it happening.  I think the closest thing anyone is going to get to a toy MTT is the Pepsi MTT cooler from back in 1999.

TV-9D9 / Re: The Clone Wars - Season Four Discussion Thread
« on: July 23, 2011, 05:45 PM »
Caught an interview on Sirius XM's Comic Con radio with Dee Bradley Baker (Clones) & Cat Taber (Padme, night sister) today.  They were pretty tight-lipped about season 4.  But they did let SOME details slip.

Dee mentioned that General Krell (same species as Dexter Jettster) has a 4 part story arc with the Clones, and how his story with these Clone Troopers shapes their perceptions of their place in the war/galaxy.

The Mon Calamari arc with Ackbar will be a 3 episode story arc.  Ackbar appears, as mentioned in the panel.  Both actors said they were really impressed with the way the water effects looked in the episodes.

Cat Taber confirmed that the Night sisters return, and she plays one of them.

From ROTJ there were scenes of Moff Jerjerrod getting stunned by the Emporer's Royal Guards.  THAT would be pretty awesome to see since all we've ever seen from them was getting knocked into walls by Yoda in ROTS.

Definitely hoping for a closer look at Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Darth Maul.

Qui-Gon looks very much like the Evolutions figure, but there were some things about the face sculpt with that figure that might bear revisiting.  And overall that figure looked slightly out of proportion.

Then, there's Obi-Wan.  While Hasbro may have taken another shot at Obi-Wan in the TLC RED line, there was something that seemed a little off about that one, too.  I hope this version gets tweaked to the point that it's really impressive.

Darth Maul really seems to need the most attention.  And unfortunately we couldn't get a good look at the figure in that slide.  Hopefully we'll see something a little more high res in the near future.

As for the rest of this wave?  Generally, I'm pretty happy with what I see.  Queen Amidala, Anakin and Daultay Dofine all look pretty cool.  And the Anakin body would definitely make for some good Jedi younglings in the future.  Quinlan Vos is a nice addition, considering he is sourced to one of the scenes in Mos Espa.  The pic of the Battle Droid was a little sketchy, and I'd like to see more.

Sidious looks a little big and bloomy, unfortunately.  A Sidious/Senator Palpatine would be very cool though.  And I'm wondering, is that a molded hood next to the figure?

while most people are TPMed out

Honestly I don't know how anybody could be TPMed out... we've had what, 2 waves of figures featuring TPM characters since the end of POTJ? If anything, TPM is the movie we need the most from, and it looks like Hasbro is delivering.

TPM seems to be getting a second wind with fans.  It took a long time for people to get over the retail disaster that was Episode I.  Retailers bought into that line SOOOOO heavily that it wound up being a regular fixture at retail for 3 - 4 years.  And with the movie, people are only starting to warm up to Jar Jar some 10+ years later.  And since we're now over 5 years past ROTS, I think fans are a little more ready to embrace the whole Prequel Trilogy with some level of nostalgia.

From a toy standpoint, we really have seen such marked advances since 1999.  The figure aesthetics of sculpt and articulation have come a long way, and I think there's a desire to get TPM characters done with a modern treatment.  I remember how hot the first Darth Maul figure was back in 1999, but that figure has not held up.  Hence the resculpts and newer versions.

If the 3D re-releases go well, perhaps we'll see all the films get this kind of focused treatment from Hasbro.

I really like this wave.  The character choices are pretty cool.  Very much liking the Naboo Pilot.  I'd also like to see more of Aurra Sing.

The downside?  I just dread having to deal with the ratrace of another WalMart exclusive wave of figures.  I *HATE* WalMart exclusives with such a passion.

I like that they are specifically making General Cracken.  Although it seems to me that they tried to make him as an un-named Endor Rebel back in 2006 in the TSC line:

I wonder which one will actually have the better likeness?  And I'm also hoping that the card for General Cracken will be this photo:

The deleted scene figures look fantastic.  The softgoods are a nice inclusion, although I know they drive some people crazy.

Kind of curious about the Mon Calamari pilot being designated as an A-Wing pilot.  Some of the EU backstory of the B-Wing is that it was developed by Ackbar, and that the rotating cockpit would suit Mon Calamari pilots better.  Which makes me wonder why the Mon Cal pilot isn't a B-Wing pilot.

Hmmm.  They're only showing OT deleted scenes.  Would they actually go back and do the Droid Control Ship sequence from AOTC?

It took 20 years for people to come around with the Ewoks.  Jar Jar's got another decade before he's out of the doghouse.
