LEGO / Re: 2009 Toy Fair Darth Vader Figure Display
« on: February 21, 2009, 12:28 PM »
Just an FYI, that edition number is ONLY on the LEGO badge and not anywhere on the chrome Vader figure or package.  And those badges were sent out to press people only.  Those press people might open themselves up to the wrath of LEGO since those badges were assigned to individuals, and those individuals who wound up selling their badges may not be invited back next year.  As a result I'll be hanging onto mine.

And regarding the chrome Darth Vader's, those are going to be randomly packed into LEGO Star Wars products throughout the year.  There will be as many as 10,000 of those made available.

The dropship with AT-OT looked awesome in person.  And totally massive.

This set was one of my personal favorites.  And apparently the fans voted on this one.

Other Toy Lines / Re: McFarlane Sportspicks

I've seen some of the new MLB Legends and regular sports picks.  The Lou Gehrig looks cool, but I passed on it for now.  The same goes for Babe Ruth and Jorge Posada.

Celebration V: Orlando / Re: The Celebration V Speculation Thread

There was some recent news that an announcement about a potential Star Wars Celebration should be forthcoming later this year.  My money's on an announcement at Comic Con.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Kyle Katarn &... A New DarkTrooper?

When will those figures be available? I'm really anxious about buying Kyle Katarn.

August.  For both Kyle Katarn in his 2-pack, and the Dark Trooper which is a BAF from the WalMart exclusive Droid Factory 2-packs.

On the WalMart theme, prices on the vehicle line seem to be up at WalMart.  I had been holding off on buying the repainted AAT.  Much to my chagrin, when I finally got one tonight it scanned in at $24.77.  Ouch!

I moved into a new house in November.  And along the way I've done a significant ammount of work.  I painted the whole place.  And it's amazing what a coat of paint can do for a place.

I replaced almost every light fixture in the house.  I've got 1 or 2 left to go.  One of which is sitting in my dining room, waiting to go up.  I've gotten some good bargains on fixtures, too.  I found one fixture for the kitchen on a clearance shelf at Home Depot that was marked down to below $1.  And at the register they told me they couldn't charge me that little...so they gave it to me for free!  While I was choosing the fixtures, I made sure that every fixture can accomodate the new long life fluroescent bulbs.  As a result of making the switch on the light bulbs I've seen my electric bill drop dramatically.  I've got some concerns after I read that properly disposing of the new flourescent bulbs is tricky.

I've still got a number of projects to go.  Storm windows for one.  New blinds for most of the rooms.  Curtains for the living room.  Possibly wood floors for the main floor.  New carpet for the upstairs.  Tile floor for the powder room.  Oh, and the collection room!

The Legacy Collection / Re: Toy Fair 2009!

I think I was going by actual photos from the show and they weren't as clear...  She's improved but I still find that set a little goofy.  I do like that whip though, that's neat.

I revise my claim. The Hasbro photos, RS photo, JTA photo and our (Yakface) photo seem to convey that there is no leg articulation at all other than hip. Also most pic have the same leg stance, which scream preposed/statuesque to me.

Look a little closer at that JTA photo Jayson.  The knee articulation is pretty well concealed, but you can see a seam as well as the pin in one of Lumiya's knee joints.

I've eventually been able to track down most WalMart exclusives.  But I certainly appreciate the offer, so thank you Matt.

My post is more of an indictment of the inconsistency with which WalMart exclusives seem to be distributed.  I suppose that's indicative of the numerous store grades that WalMart operates, and that the larger stores wind up with more stock than some of the smaller stores.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Y-Wing Bomber - Good Idea, or Great Idea?
« on: February 17, 2009, 06:44 PM »
Hasbro is citing the new safety considerations as the impetus for the increase in pricing.  Whether or not that's accurate is another point entirely.

As for the Y-Wing?  It looks fantastic.  Very true to the vehicle in the cartoon except for the apparent sizing down of the gunner turret.  The toy has the gunner in a position more like that of the Rebel Snowspeeder gunner than the dorsal turret that it is in the Clone Wars TV episode.  Personally, I can accept that compromise.

Also, I like the added detail of the foldout dorsal missile bay.  It's a cool feature.  And we also finally get a modern Y-Wing with a functional droid slot.  It appears that there's some kind of cover which helps keep the droid in place.  But will that droid slot accomodate both Clone Wars and movie realistic astro-droids?  Also, what about droids to put in the ship?  We only have 2 Clone Wars astromechs so far.  If we wind up getting some Shadow Squadron pilots, we're going to need some astromech droids for those additional Y-Wings!  ;D

Why WalMart?  WHY?!?!?!

WalMart is The Suck when it comes to exclusives.  And Hasbro goes and gives the center of all suckdom in the retail universe one of the coolest series of multi-packs in the Hasbro Star Wars line.  I personally would have preferred TRU to have gotten the Evolutions 3-packs if they had to go the exclusive route.  TRU exclusives tend to be infinitely easier to acquire than any WalMart exclusive.

HK-47 is the BAF for this particular wave.  That's the KOTOR assassin droid.

This is going to get expensive.  I've got at least 6 Gunships, and I'd really like to have ball turrets for all of them.
