Joe Defender / G.I. Joe Toys Thread

The Night Raven totally reminds me of the fictional MiG from that Clint Eastwood movie, Firefox.  But it almost looks like it's too small for a figure to fit in the cockpit.

And that driver for the Cobra Humvee looks like some kind of modern take on the vintage STUN Driver.

The Millenium Falcon is FAR more marketable than the Sail Barge.  The Millenium Falcon is much closer to being a household name than the Sail Barge.  That means that it has huge name recognition as well as a visual appeal.  People know precisely what the Falcon is when they see it.

And that's where it ties in with the mass market.  There are a lot more kids whose parents buy them toys than there are collectors.  That is where Hasbro makes their money.  Kids are the primary market.  Can you sell the Sail Barge to kids?  That is a point of great debate.  Can you see the AT-TE or Turbo Tank to kids?  That seems far more likely.

The sales performance of the Falcon has yet to be discussed by Hasbro.  They certainly aren't going to cite numbers to collectors because of the competitive nature of the toy industry.  But I get the feeling that the $100 threshold is all that the market can truly bear right now.

A Sail Barge is not really comparable to the Millenium Falcon.  You're talking about one vehicle that is more of a set than anything else and plays into about 15 minutes of action in ROTJ and gets minor involvement in the Clone Wars movie.  It's not really comparable to the Millenium Falcon which plays a central role in all three OT movies.

HK-47 was announced as a Build-A-Figure, but all of the packaged images of this wave show that U-3PO is packed in with the TESB figures.

I agree, it seems ridiculous that we still haven't seen a regular, single carded Wedge Antilles at retail.  Looking at all the other minor, background characters we've seen in the line, particularly in the past few years, the fact that this fairly significant player in the OT still hasn't seen a basic figure at retail seems astounding to me.  I'm looking forward to seeing more about this X-Wing pack in, and the previous OTC exclusive version was ok as well, but I hope we get an all-new, SA Wedge Antilles in the basic line - and soon.

Given this set, I think we're more likely to see a TESB Snowspeeder pilot Wedge on a basic figure card first.

Interesting.  I for one haven't gotten into the NJO era novels.  I dig the EU, but mostly by way of the comic books.  So this will be an interesting way to get into that era.  It also makes it very possible that Hasbro is going to draw on this title for some comic 2-packs.

WHOA.  SI is citing 4 independent sources that say A-Rod tested positive for steroids during the 2003 season.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Ben Burtt = Dick

This is disappointing but certainly not surprising.  The music was a huge component of the overall presentation of the OT.  But if you saw one of the behind the scenes documentaries from one of the PT dvd's, you got to see firsthand that there was some animosity between Ben Burtt and the guy who has worked as the music editor on all 6 films.  There was apparently a lot of back and forth between them over how the final audio mixes should be done, and whether there should be more of an emphasis on the music or the sound effects.

Looks pretty good!  The included boarding ladders are a nice addition.  Although I have to wonder what the figure sculpt will be like, and whether or not it's going to fit in the snug cockpit of that X-Wing.

Another concern is unfortunately the price.  Forbidden Planet is listing that at 57 GBP.  That currently translates to over $80.

I've been amazed to see some of these are still in stores.  And that's as recently as yesterday.  But when you think about the price, the pack-in figures and the poor paint jobs, I can totally understand why they're lingering.

I was in the TRU flagship store last night.  And I saw peg after peg filled with Yarna.

Including a crew and astromech would soften some of the blow of this price increase.  But if that's not the case...I've reached my breaking point on price for this vehicle.  For the price of the ARC-170 to have more than doubled since 2005 is just not acceptable.

I had an easy time passing on the 212th attack battalion clone.  Especially since I already have 4 clones in those same markings from the Target exclusive battle pack with Obi-Wan Kenobi.
