The Legacy Collection / Re: Toy Fair 2009!
« on: January 7, 2009, 12:26 AM »
I've got to go on the record with one large vehicle prediction....

The Clone Turbo Tank.

I'm still not sure when (as in it could be more than a year from now or more).  Especially based on it's absence from the TV series so far, and the AT-TE leg situation.  Just call it an....educated guess.

The Turbo Tank would be my best guess too... if Hasbro wants to release something big in 2009 or 2010, it makes sense to make it Clone Wars related, and that's as good a prediction as any.

I think I'll be more than content though if we don't get any new big items in 2009... more of a space issue than anything.

It's not a guess, despite my phrasing in the original post.

And this is what I was worried about when Hasbro said they were going to do Yarna.  I knew she would be a pegwarmer before too long.  But fanboys on boards kept saying that she would sell, that they'd buy multiples, yadda yadda yadda.

Figures like this were made to be shortpacked.

No offense to ICMG, but he should be shortpacked, too.  It's way too inside for the casual buyer.

And Matt?  You'd best respect the Ox.  The man could play his ass off.

I respect him as much as a dead cokehead can possibly be respected.

How do you think he was able to play so fast?

Nick,

Best Buy has had instruments for a while...I purchased a keyboard from them about 6 years ago...long before Guitar Hero was popular.

I received Rock Band 2 as an early birthday present today since it was a day off.  What a fun game!   :D

I've played drums for years, but it was fun playing the guitar!

They've had consumer level keyboards for years.  I'm talking about REAL instruments.  Like guitars, basses, drums, amplifiers and the like.  Some of which cost over $3,000.  Not a crappy keyboard that sells for $150.

Those look terrible.  Was one of those even supposed to be John Connor?  Because I couldn't tell.  And given the fact that there are already some decent sculpts of Christian Bale out there in the Batman line, these look even more ridiculous.

It looks like Best Buy is trying to translate the popularity of Guitar Hero and Rock Band into the sales of ACTUAL musical instruments.  They're now listing REAL INSTRUMENTS on the website, but I've yet to see any in an actual store.

I don't know who came up with this stroke of genius ::) but do they really think it's going to get some kid to bug their parents to get them an ACTUAL Les Paul that costs over $3000?

And Matt?  You'd best respect the Ox.  The man could play his ass off.

I saw some of these in the clearance aisle at Toys R Us.  It's just sad.

The last U2 album that I bought new was "Rattle & Hum".  And since then I traded off all of my U2 albums to buy other CD's.  I toyed with buying "Achtung Baby" over the weekend but passed.

I think they've done some amazing things as a band.  And somehow they still manage to be relavent.  But my musical interest lies elsewhere.

This week's episode was definitely a step backwards.  "Lair of General Grievous" was such a strong episode in comparison.  And for the show to take it's holiday break and come back to this?  Hmmm.  The only thing that it might have going for it is that it's the first episode of a multi-episode story arc.  There's the potential for it to get better.  But with Jar Jar showing up in the coming attractions?  We'll see.  I think the Ryloth storyline might be a lot better than the pirate story.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Republic attack shuttle
« on: January 5, 2009, 04:12 PM »
The Nu class shuttle needs to get some more serious screen time and/or interaction with the main characters in order to justify the toy.  So far I think we've seen Ahsoka get ferried in one, the Clone Scouts travel in another, and Cody and Rex fly one during the "Rookies" episode.

I totally think it's a very cool design.  It blends together the Imperial shuttle concept with the Republic Gunship.  And it seems like it's a ship that can fight.  It would probably make an awesome toy.  I think it just needs more screen time first.

And I hope you're right, Piet, and Hasbro is playing coy about the Twilight.

Really?  I sent in redemption forms for at least 3, but only received 2 so far.

Sideshow wasn't at Toy Fair last year.  That was something of a disappointment.

As for Hasbro?  Here's what I think we may see...

LEGACY Basic Figures wave 1-4
SAGA LEGENDS - 1 or 2 waves
CLONE WARS Basic Figures - 3 waves

VEHICLES - Mostly Clone Wars.  I think there will be a yellow Anakin fighter, plus the two new vehicles we've already seen.

BATTLE PACKS - Clone Wars Jabba.  At least 3 others.  I think the movie Jabba will be a late 2009 release.

COMIC 2-PACKS - 4 new sets

EVOLUTIONS - 3 new sets

The meteorite discussion actually jogged my memory about one that I saw in the summer of 1994.  I actually was able to dig up THIS CBC REPORT about it.  It was an amazing fireball to see as it streaked across the skies of northern NY and southern Quebec.  It was so impressive that it makes me wish that I had a video camera with me that day.

Holiday sales are MUCH bigger than anything else over the course of the year.  Just look at Black Friday itself.  It's called that because that's the day of the year when most retailers are able to get their books back into the black.  And mind you, that's with about 4 serious weeks of retail shopping left before Christmas.  And then the retailers do their post holiday inventory.  I don't think that Hasbro will wind up with solid sales data for the entire holiday season until at least the end of January.
