The Legacy Collection / Re: A Death Star Playset?
« on: May 19, 2009, 05:12 PM »
The design guys at Hasbro will mock up with whatever materials work.  Figures are sculpted with wax.  Foamcore gets used.  Or cardboard.

With something like the Death Star a cardboard mockup makes sense.  But then a lot will depend on whether or not a prototype made from production grade plastic will work.  There's a lot of void space with the Death Star, and structural stability is going to be a major concern.  Especially if they try to incorporate the megalaser or some kind of outer skin.

I have to wonder if that was one of the mockups that got shown at a presentation way back at Celebration 2.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Camping!
« on: May 19, 2009, 03:09 PM »
Screw that.  Try hiking and canoeing for a week through lake and mountain country for a week.  To me, that's camping.  You can only bring the clothes on your back and one change of clothes.  Every other cubic inch of space is devoted to sleeping bags, cooking gear, freeze dried food, tents and other camp supplies.  The fun part is usually canoeing across a sizable lake.  But then portaging from one lake to the other...it's even more fun!  Because you get to walk the same distance 3 times!  Once to carry your pack.  Then walk back to the canoe.  And then portage the canoe.  Oh...and then there's the "bear bag".  You know, the bag you have to hang up in the air about 10 - 15 feet high with your food and toiletries to keep it all from scavenging "critters".  The ones who are really big and could eat...you.

I've done the driving up to a campsite thing.  It's nice, but it's basically just sleeping outside.  If it really starts pouring most people get out of their tents and sleep in their cars.

Can you believe that I've actually seen some arguments about the vintage Death Star Droid?  The argument is that the Droid Factory MB-RA-7 isn't vac-metal that it's not an acceptable modern rendition of the vintage droid.  And that's the point where I think the debate on this subject has jumped the shark.

BUMP!  Warok is on the way.  And then there were....?

Congratulations to both Jeff and Paul, and the best of luck!

Chris, thank you very much for all of your hard work that built up a community for collectors that rose above the rabble of otherR sites.  Good luck in whatever you choose to do moving forward!

Yes, but that's now as opposed to three months from now.  The retailers have been getting refreshes on the first few waves of Clone Wars.  But those blue cards are going to stop shipping and we'll transition over to the new line look which is packaged the same way as this pack.

This set is not targetting collectors at all.  It's totally geared towards the kid/parent market, and keeping these core characters in the mix for that audience.  I don't think we saw a great re-allocation of resources within Hasbro in order to bring this set to market.  These figures were already tooled and ready.  It was just a matter of more production runs and a new package for this particular set.  It's designed to be profitable.  Why?  To bolster some of the other items in the line that collectors want that will not be monumental sellers.

7944
It keeps these characters in the mix for the kiddies.  Thank the maker I've given up being any kind of MOMC or MIMP collector.

7945
That makes the most sense.  It falls in line with what TRU did with the holo Grievous when the Clone Wars line launched last summer.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Octuparra
« on: May 16, 2009, 01:24 PM »
I like that Hasbro is trying to tackle things like the Octuptarra droid.  The main body is small enough to fit in the starfighter assortment box.  And those legs will fold up nicely.

My Wally just got five cases of... wave 5.  Imagine my excitement at the overflowing pegs, and then realizing not a single one was from wave 6.  Sigh.

Same deal at my local WalMart, too.  I think that's what you can expect when you don't have an "A" level store in your area.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Another "new" TIE Fighter?

I had actually been pondering buying another of the TIE's currently at TRU.  This development brought that notion to a screeching halt!

The new control yoke looks promising.  It's one of the most distinct features in the TIE cockpit.  It's just tough to tell how the production version will look from these images.
