LEGO / Finally... The Sandcrawler!
« on: June 3, 2005, 02:20 AM »
Now this puppy looks sweet!

I especially love the incredible figure lineup for it: 3 Jawas, Owen Lars, R2-D2, C-3PO, R5-D4, ASP droid, Gonk droid, Treadwell droid, and R1-G4.  8)

From SW.com:

Quote
It seems the Jawas of the LEGO universe have finally scavenged enough plastic bricks to put together their own sandcrawler. That's right -- LEGO will be releasing the hotly anticipated Jawa Sandcrawler set for pre-order on their website starting June 15!
"Fans have been asking for a sandcrawler since we introduced LEGO Star Wars in 1999," says LEGO Global Partnerships and Alliances Director Jay Bruns. "We have had a few varieties of models that we've built internally, but this is the first time that we've put one into production."

The LEGO Sandcrawler consists of 1,669 pieces, and features the introduction of the LEGO Jawa figure -- three in fact. Other figures include Owen Lars, R2-D2, C-3PO, R5-D4, ASP droid, gonk droid, Treadwell droid, and R1-G4.

Additional features will include:

- Functioning steering mechanism for the rear wheels
- Treads on wheels for smooth motion
- Removable crane for moving droids
- Opening hatch revealing the inside of the sandcrawler
- Opening cockpit for a driver
- Removable center section to reveal a sandcrawler 'control room'

The screen mammoth translates to some rather robust dimensions in the LEGO universe as well. LEGO's sandcrawler will measure 15" long x 8" tall x 7.5" wide, scaled nicely to the mini figures that accompany the set. The packaging has returned the retro Original Trilogy Collection look that was established before Episode III, which should please fans of the vintage aesthetic.

"We've had a great time bringing the sandcrawler to life, continues Bruns. "We hope that the fans enjoy it." Judging by anticipation for this set, not even a restraining bolt is likely to hold back fans when LEGO offers them up later this month at their website.

I see my Lava Vader line buddy jediscar has finally joined up here at JD, so I'm more than happy to get him started with some positive feedback for a smooth trade we had last month for some OTC figures.  Very cool guy, and a recommended trader to all here at JediDefender.  Thanks Steve!  More C3 loot headed your way in a couple days bud...  8)

The fun continues with JD's next Star Wars exclusive giveaway: Target's Lava Reflection Darth Vader!

Also included, will be one of Target's exclusive Darth Vader gift cards, featuring a light-up lightsaber and sound effects.  If the card wasn't cool enough in and of itself, there's a $5 balance on it to get yourself a new figure.

So head on over to our main page and sign yourself up if you'd like a chance to win one.  The contest is open to currently active JD forum members, and ends this Sunday.

Good luck everyone!

Met up with Master_Phruby today, and he was kind enough to hook me up with a Sam's Club exclusive SW set that he went out of his way to grab for me.  So big thanks to Paul for the assist.  Definitely a good guy who you should have no hesitations in dealing with.  Recommended to all!

Thanks again Paul, and it was great to finally meet you (and Jay).  'Til next time...

Other Collectibles / Star Wars Gift Cards
« on: April 9, 2005, 04:19 AM »
Yeah, this might belong over in the Other Collectibles forum, but since these have been all the rage with the 4/2 figure release, I figured I'd pop it in over here instead...

So, as most of you are probably already aware of, Target was offering a very cool exclusive collectible Target Star Wars gift card this past week.  I'd heard about it, and had planned on grabbing one, but in my laziness I let it slip my mind most of the week.  So today, in a slight panic, I scoped out our 3 closest Targets during lunch, and they were all completely sold out everywhere - long ago according to the cashiers and customer service folks I talked to.  But I hit one more Target on the way home and asked their customer service people, and it turned out they still had a couple of them behind the counter.  So I of course bought them both, for $5 each, which I turned right around and just spent on an extra deluxe figure that I still needed anyway, and wallah - 2 free gift card collectibles!  8)

Now if you haven't seen or heard about the specifics on this thing (like me), it's actually pretty thick - about the size of 6 credit cards stacked together.  That's because it's got electronics built into it, and when you push an area on it, Vader's lightsaber lights up in red and starts humming, and then Vader's famous breathing starts up for several seconds (a windblown picture of Vader is on the front of the thing, in front of a bunch of spewing Lava).

It's a pretty fun and unique little collectible to add to the collection, so I'm glad I was able to track it down finally, before it was too late.  I'd recommend folks try the same this weekend, if they haven't already.  And ask behind the customer service counter for them if you don't see them in the store anywhere.  That might help...

So, who else picked one of these suckers up?

I see that Darth_Anton has finally made his way over here to JD, so I'd be happy to get Anthony going with some feedback here.  We've locally swapped stuff a number of times, and he's helped me out on numerous other occasions as well.  Definitely a highly recommended trader for sure!  So give him a shot, you won't regret it!  Thanks for all the help these last few months Anthony...  8)

Announcements / New JD Sports Forum!
« on: March 10, 2005, 02:23 PM »
Just thought I'd alert the JD sports fanatics out there to our cozy new JD Sports Forum.  So if you're looking to talk hoops, football, baseball, hockey, Anna Kournikova, and the like - stop on in...  Plenty of beer and pretzels to go around, along with a fair amount of smack talk.  It's a wretched hive of scum and villainy in there, so watch your step!   :P

Watto's Junk Yard / Investing 101... How's your portfolio?
« on: March 9, 2005, 02:07 PM »
So with the market hovering around it's highest point in about 4 years, I've been feeling much better about my "investments" of late.  I put that in quotes, 'cause basically my "investments" are nothing more than my 401K plan at work.  But at least it's up to around $50K now, and showing a slight profit finally, so I'm feeling slightly better about things, after many years of torturous headache...  I still need to branch out into some other investment areas though, I'm sure.  Just been too lazy to doing anything on my own so far.  I figure tossing a full 15% into our plan the last few years, and getting a nice 20% matching from my company is at least a decent start for now.  Very glad to see the market rebounding these last 6 months, after many dreadful years.

So where do you folks stand in the investing world?  Have anything, or have you been procrastinating?  How long have you been investing?  What areas are your investments in?  Where do you think we "should be" at this point in our lives as far as our retirement savings?  Etc...

Any good tips for those of us who really don't know jack **** when it comes to this kinda investing stuff?

JD Sports Forum! / March Madness - 2005
« on: March 9, 2005, 05:09 AM »
So, anyone into College hoops this year?  Getting excited for March Madness?  Your alma mater gonna make it to the dance?

I'm just excited that it looks like UCLA's gonna sneak in there this year, after not having much in the way of expectations for this season.  The win at Notre Dame last week, after the Irish beat Boston College earlier, cemented it for us, I think.

The field's looking pretty wide open this year, though Illinois should still be considered the favorite, despite some weak play of late.  Duke will be right in the mix again, as usual...

Anyone playing their office pools?  I ran, and won, ours a couple years in a row, but decided I should retire and just keep all my winnings after that!   ;)  Haven't played since, which is probably a good thing, since I get a little too agro on the research when this kinda stuff rolls around (like with the Fantasy Leagues I now avoid like the plague)...

So, who's gonna win it all this year?

Announcements / JD welcomes 3 new Staff Members!
« on: February 25, 2005, 06:03 AM »
With the abundance of major Star Wars events and collectible news fast approaching (April 2nd release, C3, ROTS), JediDefender is proud to announce the addition of three new Staff Members to it's crew, as we strive to keep our friends and readers up to speed with the best coverage possible on everything related to your favorite Saga.  So we're very excited to welcome aboard Rob (KneelBeforeZod), Jared (Tydirium), and Jesse (JesseVader08)!  These guys will be assisting with the news reporting, graphics, photos, and moderating (among other things), so they're gonna have their hands full with Revenge of the Sith just around the corner!

We'd also like to thank everyone else who applied, for your interest in wanting to help make JD the #1 place on the net for SW collecting news and discussion.  There were a lot of very well-qualified and worthy applicants out there, which made our decision very difficult!  But we're frequently looking to add additional talent, so stick around and stay tuned for further job postings here in the future...

Of course, the three new guys have some mighty big shoes to fill, with the recent retirement of JD's superstar reporter and all around staff stud - Scott 'OCB' Pearson.  The entire JediDefender staff and community can't even begin to thank Scott enough for all of his contributions here over the past 2 1/2 years, as a staff member, forum participant, and friend.  We're gonna miss you, OCB.  Thanks for everything!

As ROTS quickly approaches though, we're confident that our community won't miss a beat, with Rob, Jared, and Jesse2 all pitching in with the rest of your regularly scheduled JD crew.  So keep it locked in right here for all the latest Star Wars news, and for the best collecting discussion anywhere in the galaxy!

- Team JediDefender
