Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Heroes on NBC
« on: November 12, 2007, 08:35 AM »
I think the princess is gonna know to be careful when telling the stories so that she doesn't mess up history (at least not too much).

**SPOILERS**

I knew it! I knew Kensei would end up being Adam! It's probably the English name he was telling Hiro about earlier. I think Adam killed Sulu (because he didn't have a scratch on him after falling from the roof), then he attacked Angela, and then something happened when he went to kill Matt's dad, and Matt's dad began working for him. Matt's dad went to kill Bob, then was defeated (or at least it looks like it). So now out of the orignial twelve, Charles, Sulu, Linderman, and Angela's husband ae dead, and Bob, Angela, Matt's dad, and five mystery others from the picture remain. I wonder if Adam/Kensei is the one who took the picture and is one of the twelve?

Next week is the 'Four Months Ago' episode!

the show seems to be casting out characters....

I couldn't resist...

Make new heroes,
and kill the old.
One time travels,
and another makes gold!

I would think it would have been Matt's Dad who tried to kill Angela since she didn't see any attacker and the doctors seemed to think that she attacked herself.  I think Matt's Dad has always been working for Adam, and just had the picture with the symbol to throw Matt of the trail.

LEGO / Re: UCS Millenium Falcon

DHL said the package was about 25 pounds.

So, I'd guess about 23?  The manual is (comparatively)  heavy.

That sounds about right.  I felt that the instructions weighed almost as much as a ream of paper.  I think this is the best UCS set to date.  It is really solidly constructed, especially compared to the Star Destroyer.  Also, it parallels to the regular falcons in the same way the SD parallels to the regular Star Destroyer set.  The smaller sets have the play value and interior while the UCS sets are just a frame with a lot of outside detail.  I do wonder why this set contained mini figs if they were not going to do an interior.  Also, why the extra head piece?  Would it have killed Lego to hook those of us who purchased this set up with one of the vac metalized C-3PO's?

1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / Re: Sideshow 12" Commander Praji

Well, I'm quite annoyed by this.  I have had a hard, long week and was not able to get on the net between about 9 AM EST on the 1st until about 4 PM on the 2nd, so I completely missed out, but placed a wait list order at that time.  A little notice would have been nice so I could have tried to plan for it.  I hope that my wait list goes through since I have a complete set of the SS 12" stuff and would hate to have to go to ebay for this one.  The worst part is that SS made this a two per person order.  It would have been nice if they would have limited a secret preorder to one per person.

The Dumbledore thing seems more of a reaction to the script for HBP than anything else.  I'm surprised that no one else had said something previously when she marked up the script.  In the books, Dumbledore never had any close female relationships.  I would have to reread his letter to Grindlewald to see if there was anything in that letter that could lead one to this conclusion.  I doubt this is really a publicity stunt, there are two more movies to be released so there is no need to pull something like this at this point.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Changing Collecting Habits? NEED ADVICE!
« on: October 19, 2007, 07:31 AM »
Quitting Hasbro has seemed to be a common theme in the collecting community over the past two years.  To me, Hasbro is what brought me into Star Wars collecting and it is still my main focus.  I must admit, that I have breathed a sigh of relief of the loss of the Star Wars license by Master Replicas.  While I love their products, it has just become a drain on my wallet.  I also have a nearly complete Lego collection, which is also pretty pricey.  My only other higher end focus is the Sideshow 12" line, which has seemed to have calmed down in the past few months.  We only have a handful of figures still on preorder with nothing really on the horizon.

GG is of course another story, but it looks like they could be going down in flames due to their actions of the past year.  I probably have about a dozen GG busts, mostly acquired from amazon.com sales and Galactic Rewards points from the former MBNA credit card.

Kubricks are something that I haven't dove into yet.  I purchased the most recent wave from Jeff here on the boards.  I think they are neat, but to collect the backlog would take some time and money, especially to go after the chase figures.  I like the figures, but it is one of those things that are the back burner, like trying to finish off a loose vintage collection.

Ultimately, you should collect what makes you happy.  I can understand the desire to sell off items that aren't displayed.  I have had my 3 3/4" stuff sitting in boxes in my basement that I never got around to fully finishing.  I have just had a two story garage built and have been moving everything to the second story in order to finally display my collection.  All I need is to either purchase or build some display cabinets and I'll be good to go.  Sadly, the 3 3/4" stuff will take a backseat to MR for display, but after all the MR stuff is unboxed I plan to display all my 3 3/4" figures again.  At that point, I'll re-evaluate what I have.  For the figures, I collect one loose and one carded so I plan on doing a figure wall for the carded stuff.  I have also collected two of each for battlepacks, etc., but I may consider selling the boxed ones if I can't display them.  I think the only undisplayed, boxed items I would keep, would be my Hasbro 12" collection.

So anyway, I say if you still enjoy the 3 3/4" stuff like I do, then keep it, give it some time and try to envision how you would feel if you sold it all, but then decided you wanted it back.  Remember that a full wave of Kubricks will cost you about $80 which may or may not include the easy chase figures.  The one per master case chases are usually around $100/each.  On the plus side, they are easy to display and take up a lot less room, and there are a lot fewer figures available.

Other Collectibles / Re: The "Official" Master Replicas Prop Thread

I'd freak out way more if a 5 year old was playing with a vinyl cape Jawa.  Those sabers/hilts are tough.  I think the helmets could sustain a bit too.

I was kind of cheesed with the battle damaged 501st helmet, essentially doubling the size of 501st helmets available and penalizing those of us that sat and waited a bloody year for the clean version.   >:(

I don't think that is as bad as all the super sales they have had on items that have shipped in the past year, penalizing us loyal customers who perordered on the first day and paid full price.

Each episode has been better than the last.  I am guessing DL had the virus.  I liked that character, but at least his power lives on in Peter.  Candice/Michelle's origin story was posted in the online graphic novels.  Her real name was Betty.  I wonder if she is truly dead.  If she is, then she was stupid to get that close to Sylar.  The company apparently wants him for something.  Good catch on the car.  I didn't notice that.

DL's death was also on the net through Linderman's hotel website.  If you have been to Hana Gittleman's (the woman who can move through the internet that debuted in Ted Sprague's hut last season) website (samantha48616e61.com), she has taken over Linderman's hotel website (just do a search for Daniel Linderman and you'll find the site).  She has on-line chats with Micah (similar to what was in the comics) and chat number two had Micah mention that he lost his dad before the episode aired.

I am hoping to be able to start on mine this week.  I am also hoping that for those of us who shelled out the money for this set that we at least find the gold C-3PO's in the box.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Brians Toys
« on: September 26, 2007, 07:21 AM »
Really, IMO, Brians Toys is just a scalper who gets to order direct from Hasbro.  When people see UGH's or McQuarrie figures on ebay for $20 on ebay, they scream scalper.  When they see the same thing at Brians Toys, they say they are a legitmate business who can charge what they want since they can't get the big discounts of TRU, Walmart and Target.  Personally, I don't see a difference.  Brians Toys has an advantage over many other e-tailers since they will sell individual figures.  I'm a two of each collector on 3 3/4" figures, but I still don't order from Brians Toys.  I ordered two UGH cases from Newforce, so I'm still short a second CZ-4, but I won't pay $15 - $20 for it.  I find it funny that at a minimum you pay $10 a figure at Brians Toys (and thats without shipping), but at NewForce, your per figure price works out to be about $7.07, shipping included.  That really isn't much more than retail considering TRU is at $6.99 right now.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Price of toys to increase 10% in 2008?
« on: September 18, 2007, 07:22 AM »
Our figures certainly aren't going up to 8$ with a 10% increase.

Let's see, here in MN:

Target price = $6.99
Tax = 6.5% = $0.45
Final Price = $7.44

+10% increase = $7.69
Tax = 6.5% = $0.50
Final Price = $8.19

Seems like an $8 figure to me... am I missing something? ???

10% doesn't seem like much, but if you buy 100 figures in a year, it's an extra $75.

Yes, you are missing the fact that you could move to a sales tax free state like Delaware where I get my figures.   ;)

First of all, we don't know at this point if Hasbro will be affected.  This situation stems from a backlash from the Mattel toys with the lead paint and loose magnets.  It easy for them to say that they are going to tighten up on safety and have to increase costs 10%.  The truth of the matter is that wages are increasing all over China.  China is having a hard time curbing inflation and their rate of growth economically.  China is trying desperately to avoid a recession.  If China goes through a recession, prices will drop again.

It seems people are a bit nicer in Dover.  They had four Cruiser sets and none of them had been tampered with.

LEGO / Be Cautious w/ Hoth and Republic Cruiser Sets
« on: September 5, 2007, 07:24 AM »
I found these two sets at TRU yesterday, but unfortunately, I could only pick up the Hoth Set.  They had two Republic Cruisers, but both of them had been opened and pillfered.  Instead of the typical glued down box sides, these sets are only held together with two small pieces of tape.  There is a cardboard tab that you can use to reseal the box after you have opened it.  I assume someone was search for gold C-3PO's or was just looking to take the minifigs.  Just be wary when find these sets on the shelves to make sure they haven't been opened.

But that guy "tenike1" brought the community to a new low.

Amen to that. I'm glad he hasn't been active for awhile, I was getting real tired of his melodramatic dribble. Still, his strange Hasbro conspiracy theories were entertaining.

I'm almost sure he's been banned, or at least suspended without a reactivation date.  I hope that dude's parents have him on meds.

Is this the guy who went off on a rant about Hasbro making the Darth Malak figure?  There was someone on RS who was acting like it was the end of the world that Hasbro was making Darth Malak and Darth Raven figures.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Collecting: Did You Intend to Go This Far?
« on: August 24, 2007, 07:11 AM »
I never thought I would end up with what I currently own.  I started back in early '97 when I was senior in college.  My Mom had gotten me the mail away Han in ST disguise.  I stopped by a KB shortly afterwards and picked up Boba Fett, Han in Carbonite and Jedi Luke.  A few months later, I had about 35 loose figures...I was coming pretty close to catching up with every figure that was out at the time.  Then, there was a mail away figure...Muftak and Kabe I believe.  They required a current receipt.  Well, I did keep the old cards from my loose figures, so that is when I decided to buy one loose, one carded.  Around the same time, my Mom took me shopping for my birthday.  Toys 'R Us had several 12" figures for $10/each.  Lando and Ackbar were among them I think.  That is when I started collecting the 12".  Toys 'R Us also had vehicles cheap around the same time ($20 AT-AT) so I started buying vehicles.  I found ebay in 1999.  That helped me fill all my holes in 3 3/4" figures, 12" figures and vehicles.  I went to midnight madness for Ep. I and bought all the Hasbro stuff...same thing for AOTC.  Then there was C2 and I found the Master Replicas booth.  I purchased the Anakin FX.  When I got home, I went to the website and purchased the Han Blaster since Han is my favorite character.  My wife (gf at the time), said if she were a collector, she was just get the MR stuff.  That sent me down the high end path.  She even encouraged me to get the AT-AT when I was going to pass on it because of cost.  Once Hasbro ditched the 12" line, I figured I was done.  I was a little leary about Sideshow because of the price increase.  I said I would order the Jedi Luke and wait till it shows up just to see how it was.  Well, that didn't work.  Next thing I know, I have at least a half dozen figures on preorder before ever receiving Luke.

At this point, I have so much stuff that I have trouble displaying it all.  I'm in the midsts of building a collection room so at the point I'll finally be able to see how far I've gone...much farther than I ever thought back in '97.
