Customs Community and Group Projects / Re: Special project question
« on: January 10, 2006, 12:58 PM »
Yes, I have seen this thing before with 12" dolls on the Men with Dolls forum on Ezboard: Bouncing Betty and Jaunting Jet.  Each person who "hosted" the doll took her around to various places in town and shared photos with everyone, and then added some small accessory or item of clothing to her "suitcase" when it was time to send her on to the next host (similar to the sticker idea suggested by BrentS -- either would work well).

It's a very cool idea, and it would be great fun to do it with SW figures -- count me in, too!  Do you know which figure you're going to use, Ennis?

Very neat concept on this shirtless Maul, and  great job painting the tattoos on the chest.  Is that really based on a Luke figure?  Wow, what a transformation you've effected -- it almost looks like one of those Microman figures that people have ben using a lot recently, but I have heard tell of VOTC Luke's fantastic articulation.

One small thing that's bothering me, though, is the upper skirt, and how it connects to the torso.  The upper skirt seems a bit to thick; there's too much extra space between the edge of the belt and the beginning of the torso, which makes the torso look smaller than it should.  I wonder if it might not help to use another cloth skirt, perhaps another Luminara one, as the upper skirt (cut to the proper lengths in ront and back, of course)?  That might lessen some of the waistband issue and make his torso look more in proportion with his lower half.  Just a thought, and of course, you know how biased I am in favor of softgoods.  :)

I know what you mean about the paint impeding the articulation.  That seems to happen to me sometimes even after I use dullcote spray on a figure.  But it's worth a try.  Chewie, what does the superglue do on the joints?  I haven't heard of that trick before -- but would it not just sticlk them together?

Keep up the nice work, Ennis, and happy customizing!

Feedback / Re: CHEWIE's feedback
« on: January 10, 2006, 11:38 AM »
I just finished my first transaction with CHEWIE (Justin), and I hope there will be many more!  His payment was lightning-fast, and his all of his communications to me were timely and friendly.  A great trader & customzier, and highly recommended to all!

Thanks again, Justin -- hope we can do this again some time!

Cheers,

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see the Darth Plaguies (sp?) photo

He was some pages ago now.  I just hadn't gotten around to commenting on him till now, but gosh, now I can't find him either in  this thread... or in any of Chewie's other customs threads.  Help!  :o

But he did have one -- he was sort of Dr. Doom meets the Sith.  :)

Thanks so much for the kind words, all -- glad things are finally starting to work again!

I'll have more to say about your comments soon, but for now, I would just like to post a few photos of these new customs to tide people over until Geocities decides to behave itself again.  The website of course has even more photos, along with explanatory text, so even with these photos, don't forget to go visit there, too!

Feel free to ask any questions you like, and as always, comments and critiques are welcome.  Do enjoy! 8)

Darth Ennis, great work on your transformation of the Bail Organa head -- I never would have guessed!  I had been thinking it was a Rykrof Enloe head instead... :D

He turned out very nicely.  I like the color scheme. One small thing, though, is that  slit in the right side of his tunic, which I'm sure was Hasbro's fault and not yours... was that from some attachment on the Ki-Adi-Mundi figure?

Nice touch posing him on that Felucia base, too.  It goes with his green color scheme.  :)

Keep up the wonderful work!

TV-9D9 / Re: How do YOU Watch the STAR WARS Saga At Home?
« on: January 9, 2006, 01:52 PM »

The magic of STAR WARS transcends virtually EVERY viewing situation, regardless of scope.  In the end, the most important thing when viewing the STAR WARS Saga at home is that there be an extra-special someone curled up next to you enjoying all the action, all the adventure, and all the exploits of Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, Darth, Anakin, Obi-Wan and the gang!!

You are absolutely right about that!

Yes, I am very lucky to have the Findshusband by my side, through all aspects of life, Star Warsy and non-Star Warsy.  And I'm sure Mrs. Darklord is very blessed too.  Have you guys really been married 19 years?  Wow!  Many more to you both!  :)

Firstly, I'm really sorry with all the troubles with the links, everyone.  Too much traffic just makes Geocities balk, and there's nothing I can do (except upgrade my account -- maybe someday, but not now).  All I can say is, keep trying!  Hit that refresh button!  :)

The links worked over at ffurg a few minutes ago. I guess bandwidth got exceeded again. Anyway, I saw King Ebareebaveebeedee of the Squib. You did a fantastic job sculpting the head for this guy. He looks like you had alot of fun making him.

Padmé Amidala in her lavender nightgown is the kind of figure that I love to see from you. She's beautiful and well crafted.

I didn't see Telfien or Snagg yet but will comment when the link works again. I did the the ghost Padme. She looks very creepy and I love the way she is screaming. There is a ghost that should be haunting Vader for a long time.

Thanks for the comments, Phruby!  I wish I could take any credit for the Squib headsculpt, but I can't.  It came from EUCustomMan, who has some really cool Squib customs himself.  I did have fun making Ebareebaveebeedee (and typing his
name, too) -- he's a cute & funny character.

And yes, that ghost will be haunting Vader for years.  That's the idea!  :)

Glad the lavender nightie is to people's liking.  It wasn't easy getting that to be the right size, for some reason.  The Ayy Vida can be a bit difficult to work with, partly because of her pose and because she only has one foot-hole to go on a stand.

Even if you do make it to Telfien's page, there are no photos there right now.  I'm going to retake them this morning.  Her original batch of photos were just plain boring -- no accessories or anything, guess I just was in too much of a hurry with the photography last night -- so I am going to give her some accessories and such and try again.
EDIT: They are now all re-taken, so do come have a look (that is, if Geocities hasn't decided to balk again).

Thanks again, everyone, and thanks for your patience, too! :)

More wonderful work, Chewie!  I have commented elsewhere on the mystery hunter, Cmdr. Kraist, and Nommel, so here goes with some of the things from earlier on, upon which I haven't commented yet:

Quinlan Vos: Softgoods hair!  Hooray!  :) Very ambitious, and it turned out great.  (How did you get it on his head, incidentally? And did you spray seal it afterwards?  It looks that way.)  Yes, as Phruby points out, he does have that sort of Bob Marley look, but in a determined, Jedi sort of way.

Female Wookiee Peasant:  Dath Delicious, I wonder if it's the eyes & teeth that don't seem right to you?  They do seem a bit too white, almost "deer-in-the-headlights"-ish.  Maybe if they were more off-white or a light tan?  Still, I like the concept for the custom, and it's definitely a very creative one that one does not see every day.

Darth Plagueis the Wise: Great use of the imagination!  I think it's neat that you made him, especially with no reference pictures about, but that's part of the fun, of course.  Definitely very very creepy, in a good way, and consistent with what we know about the character.  I have a totally different mental picture of the character, whom maybe I'll customize some day... hey, come to think of it, Plagueis (or characters without reference pics in general) would make a really cool Casting Call or Customizers' Challenge, no?  :)

Outer Rim Pilot:  I like how svelte he is (and I know why he's svelte), and I LOVE that he's basically wearing jeans.  :D  Great transformation of that Naboo helmet (or I think that's what it is)!

Always enjoy seeing your work very much, even if it does take me a while to comment sometimes.  It's just that I want to give it the attention & time it deserves!  Happy customizing, and I look forward to more, as always.  8)

Oh yes. I'm sorry about that.   I should have warned everyone.  If  it thinks there's too much traffic, it doesn't let people access the site.  It's their way of trying to make me sign up for premium web service.  :)  It usually works again after a few moments or so.

Star Wars Action Figures / New Customs by the Findswoman
« on: January 9, 2006, 01:20 AM »
Hello all,

I am proud to announce the first update to the Findswoman Collection in some 5 months!  After putting in a burst of customizing this past week, I have just finished and posted five all-new 3.75" customs:

King Ebareebaveebeedee of the Squib

Padmé Amidala in her lavender nightgown from ROTS

A second version of Telfien, my fanfic Gand Findswoman

A modern-day Blue Snaggletooth, sort of

Padmé's Ghost

Do let me know what you think -- any and all comments, compliments, criticisms, etc. are greatly appreciated.   Enjoy, and happy customizing to all!  :)

Wow, Roberto, your home theater setup is truly impressive! (And your living room's mighty fine looking, too.)  I see from this that you're the sort who makes the absolute most of everything you make and do, not just customizing.  Very cool indeed.  8)

Alas, the Findshusband and I have nothing that can compare.  Just a small, old TV (smaller than the monitor of our iMac, I think) on a shelf across from a futon couch in our dinky Oakland, CA apartment.  But the Star Wars trilogy is still the Star Wars trilogy!

HunterOfThePegs, why don't you show us a photo of your setup, too?  Plasma TV sounds very very neat indeed...  how different are they from regular LCD TVs?

And finally...
WANTS

This time I'm especially seeking accessories, furniture, boxes, crates, and any other props for future photocomic work.  Any sort will do, and I mean any sort. (Playmobil, anyone?)

I'm also seeking these:

- NEW Saga Taun We, one or two  It would be neat if she had the clone jar, too, but if she doesn't, that's all right.  Even just the clone chamber jar on its own is all right, too.

- Multiple heads from the ROTS AT-TE Tank Gunner, or other similar helmetless Clone-type heads.  Casts are all right, too. Update: I have a number of these on the way.

- A Saga TIE Fighter Pilot.  He can be loose, he can be accessoryless, and he can even be headless.  Just as long as his neckpost is intact.

And, as always:
Any Leias from the Princess Leia Collection
Soft goods from any 3.75" or 12" figures
Female figs & parts of almost any kind, 3.75" or 12".  (I think I have enough G.I. Joe ones for now, though.)
Anything Zuckuss

Thanks!

maybe it's a baby whipid, kruhk's spieceis. it has the same protruding bottom teeth as that spiecies and as a youngling may not have any hair yet. that was my first guess!

As it turns out, you're right, Jedistyle: Jempa is a young Whiphid.  Here's the Star Wars Wiki entry for Jempa.

However... if this makes Kala a Whiphid, too, he doesn't match the other numerous adult Whiphids in earlier chapters of the Rykrof saga, who are all bigger, hairier, and nekkid.  (See, for example, this shot.)  I guess the Jedi Order is a civilizing and grooming influence!  :)

At first I thought this dio wasn't star wars scale size. Then I saw the emporer sitting there.

I thought the same thing the first time I saw it!  In the first few pictures especially, it really does look like a real place that one could walk through.  One can't tell that that's foamcore at all, that's how convincing it looks.

Outstanding work.  It's so great that you were able to save this beauty from the wrath of Katrina!
