Well of the Souls / Re: Hasbro 3.75" Vehicles
« on: May 2, 2008, 02:09 AM »
I got the car and truck yesterday, along with 9 Nazis to populate them. Really good stuff. I love the box dios... their kind of fun.

Does anyone know if any other $20 items are coming out? (aside from Jungle Cutter) I think the tank from Last Crusade and an elephant from Temple of Doom would be really cool for the line.

Well of the Souls / Re: May 1st - What are you buying?

Here's my May 1st haul, even though most of you couldn't care less:

TARGET
9 Nazi Soldiers (3 Basic, 3 2-packs)
Indiana Jones (Cairo)
Indiana Jones with Ark
German Troop Car
German Truck

All cool stuff right here. The Nazis make good Imperial infantry, so I'll definitely have to get another 3-7 more. The Cairo Indy is surprisingly cool. The bendy whip/action feature are a lot of fun. The vehicles are superb. The boxes are nifty, and would be cool to see on Star Wars toys.

Jesse, I think you're mixing up your tanks. I think Robo-Quack is talking about the 2003 retool, not the 2006/07 repaint.

As for the TPM and Clone Wars tanks... the colors on the outside are pretty much the same. The major difference is the color of the battle droid inside the tank. (Clone Wars has maroon, TPM has tan) Another difference is the removal of the auto-remove front hatch feature on the Clone Wars tank. (When you push the button to reveal the battle damage droid on the TPM tank, the front cover would also fling off.)

X-Men 4 or Street Fighter 2  ???

I couldn't help but think Starship Troopers when I saw the costume pics. As someone who didn't grow up with Joe and not really a big fan (some toys are awesome, though) I don't think this movie will have the "cool" factor that Transformers had. Fan or not, giant robots smashing the crap out of each other made for a good summer popcorn film. I know a lot of people my age showed interest in the movie when it was released.
For GI Joe, I don't think the same "cool" factor is present. It's probably going to seem incredibly weird and childish to most folks. I'm open to viewing most movies, but this is one film I'll most likely skip. I smell a good, old fashioned failure being delivered in the Summer of '09.

Would a trailer be worthwhile to release for Paramount/LFL? With six weeks until the movie, they might be better off showing new footage in TV spots.

That Concept Y-Wing is pretty cool looking. My main problem with it, and many other Prequel ships/vehicles are that they make OT ships look like steps backwards instead of technological advances.

My favorite part of the Concept Y-Wing is the gunner's bubble turret. Definitely a nice throwback to McQuarrie designs, plus I'm a sucker for WW 2 Bombers, so when features from those planes are incorporated into Star Wars I am one happy geek.

I hate making myself look stupid, but it's sure as hell better than anything I could paint. Not quite as wierd as the robotic dog video I saw a few weeks back, but kind of wierd.

Hey John, thanks for the pictures. I liked the design on the mask more than unmasked, but I'll probably go with unmasked. The mask on the masked figure looks too much of a light gray color. The ugly nature of the unmasked Predator head makes it much better looking to me. Plus, the whip is a pretty badass weapon. I'm definitely taking a trip to the mall this weekend to get the unmasked version.

Joe Defender / G.I. Joe Toys Thread

Picked up a third set of vehicles for my same friend today. The more I look at the Night Specter, the more I just frown on the whole line in general. Sure, it might've been cool in the 80's but now the thing looks ridiculous. I'm not too keen on the blue color on the HISS tank, so if I get some for myself I would have to fix that, contrary to what I said earlier. Not too sure how I would do that... CHEWIE, do you do commission work? I'm sure you could make a HISS fit with Star Wars figures quite well, and I'd be willing to pay you to make it happen.

I'm no painter/customizer, so I was just planning to peel off the stickers and use goo-gone to get the residue off. Some Joe stuff looks to fit with Star Wars really well,(HISS) other stuff looks like good military toys, (AWE Striker) and some stuff is just goofy as hell, IMO (Night Specre/Mini Plane)

Now, just something to note with my potential HISS Tank project, I'd most likely give the drivers away free to a good home, so PM me if you are interested in maybe getting some free troops.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: Recent 30AC Purchases

Two more Kashyyyk Troopers, two sets of G.I. Joe vehicles, and FU Darth Vader at Target this morning.

I picked up Jigsaw Darth Vader today. Kind of a fun figure. I like the snap on bits, even if they're not overly secure. Reminds me of the operating table Vader. Both of those figures should look nice together.

Oh, I would dare. I'm thinking HISS tanks and Super Battle Droids. Joes with Prequel figures might be an even bigger sin.

JohnH- I have a quick question for you about the Predator figures. Is there one version that you can recommend more than the other? I'm interested in getting one, as I love the movies, but I don't want to spend $30-$40 just for two different heads. Your input would be much appreciated!
