The Vintage Collection / Re: Boba Fett Mail-Away Offer?
« on: April 12, 2011, 02:21 PM »
Sent in for my last few last month and just got them today. I haven't opened them yet but the exteriors all look good. I may be persuaded to trade one Captain Piet if you are still in need and you want to offer something up other than a fett for one but I'm not sure yet if I've got a nice minty mint one for you since I haven't opened the 4 I just got. PM me if you think you have a fair trade offer, Jesse should be able to confirm I'm a fair guy and not some crook, and we can trade pics via email. I focus on OT both carded and loose, new or vintage figures and ships or vintage pieces and parts. I know I have one with a really good flat card but the bubble is weird at the top like it was heated a little too much or something. But I have 4 others so I can check them all. That goes for anyone if they need one and just want to trade. I do need a loose (or carded) Malek, a loose or carded raven to name a few non OT things. I need a good, clean and unbroken middle platform for an ewok village but I'm also open to any real vintage weapons/accessories for figures/playsets so don't be afraid to make me an offer of parts but don't be heartbroken if I turn it down. I know I need ewok spears, head gear and staffs but they have to be vintage when it comes to parts. I'm not greedy, I'll consider any fair market value offer but I wouldn't think anyone would offer anything other than what they feel one of these is worth anyway. I just don't want to load up on too much of any one thing and I need so much stuff I can't list it all here. GI Transformer weapons/accessories I'll consider too, if you want to offer up some stuff or help me finish any I'm trying to complete. Sorry in advance if I hijacked the thread.

Nice finds on the ewoks stuff, I managed to snage a near complete ewok village with box this weekend for $40. It has all the pieces but the main platform needs swapped because one of the spit poles was glued in place then broke off. So it has all the pieces but because of that I'm not considering it complete. Also picked up a boxed plush paploo in a trade.

Conventions / Toy Show in Columbus,OH this Sunday
« on: April 5, 2011, 09:29 PM »
If you are in the central Ohio area there is going to be a Toy show this weekend At Vet's Memorial in Downtown Columbus. It's a 1 day show this Sunday with 170 Dealer tables and I know they've all been sold. Should be a large variety of offerrings. He puts on a few shows a year and this one tends to be the biggest. More details can be found at ColumbusToyShow

Shadows of the Dark Side / Re: Walmart "New" TIE Bomber
« on: April 4, 2011, 04:04 PM »
I went to a Wal-Mart that I hadn't been before that's within reasonable driving distance (which is less and less due to gas prices), and found 9 of these TIE Bombers on the clearance aisle...for $39 each.  :P

In the grand tradition of Wal-Mart I expect them to remain that price each time I go back, until one day they disappear with never sign of being marked down.

That's like my Wal-Mart.  Everything in the clearance aisle has a new red clearance tag with the item's original price.

I believe it's a tactic they've been using for awhile now. My girlfriend noticed sometime last year that if it's really on clearance the label has two prices on it. If it's not on clearance it's just the red clearance label with the original price on it. I think they're trying to trick the average buyer who would buy this for their kid into thinking they're getting a deal on it. However, I still thiink a person should always scan what they are buying at Walmart first anyway. I know that sometimes the price on the shelf is wrong. I know when the AT-AT went on clearance only one place I saw it at had it marked $49. Everywhere else I saw it just had them on a shelf in the discount area but no labels and they rang up at $49 too.

I know I'm a little late posting here but James, were you the guy just across the aisle from me set up next to the DVD guy? Just curious, I was right next to a James who puts on the Columbus Toy Show so I know that wasn't you. If that wasn't you we'll have to meet up at the next show.

Jesse, again, good to meet you. I'm glad I could help on a few figures. Hopefully I'll have some new stuff at the next show. See you then. Hope to meet other board members too.

The Vintage Collection / Re: What Would Be "The End" For You?
« on: March 31, 2011, 11:51 AM »
For the most part I hit the end back in late 08 early 09. I'm an OT collector and for the most part already have everything I need. Except for a new Death Star, still holding my breath on that. Price and assortment killed it for me. I buy by the case and after about the 2nd or 3rd wave it no longer makes sense because of all the repacks. I buy a handfull of figures for myself each year but I always buy OT ships/playsets but they just don't make enough of those. I have a lot of gripes with the line but nothing that I really need to go into here and for the most part are the same issues everyone else has.

Conventions / Re: Pittsburgh's "Steel City Con" Toy & Collectible Show
« on: February 19, 2011, 10:01 AM »
I know it may be a little early, the show is still 2 weeks away, but since this will be the second steel city I'm setting up at but have not actually knowingly met any JD board members I just thought I'd see who was planning on going. I know Jesse will be there. I don't know if we'll be able to make it to any dinners or whatnot outside of the show but who knows. Things can kinda get away from us when we do events like this since we end up running into a lot of dealers from other events we do. Still, always fun to meet fellow collectors.

Just wanted to edit my rant. No need to vent to the world so I've removed it. It amazes me how the price on these keep going up. From a manufacturing standpoint the packaging has to be cheaper since it's a straightforward die cut card, the bubble is simplier to manufacture even in various sizes, they've eliminated pack ins and the volume has to be there that the tooling costs are nearly non existent. Hasn't it been mentioned before that the figures are slightly shrinking too? I'm convinced that EE, TRU and other similar etailers raise their prices based on what figures can go for on the aftermarket. I'm continually reminded by my EE contact on what items are going for on ebay when I'm solicited for orders and any time I go to place a reorder for something I've got from them the price has gone up to the point that it doesn't make sense for me to reorder. That's not just on star wars. I know manufacturers are constantly hounded by their customers for lower costs so I'm pretty sure the cost to make the vintage line isn't what they'd like you to think it is. I'm aware that import cost and other new regulations have added to the cost but I'll bet the trade off at the manufacturing level evens it out. Seriously, how can the VC line cost more to make than TLC or CW lines? It has to be the "only collectors will buy this line so we'll charge a premium just because we can" mentality.

Hi Jesse, it was a last minute decision to go and in the rush I hadn't even thought about mentioning anything on the site. We are going to be there for March. There are a few vendors we set up with at Columbus shows who are making plans too. Heavy vintage guys so It should be a good time. I'm hoping it's a better show than this past December; it seemed a little slow. It was our first time there but we enjoyed it. Did you catch Daniel Logan trying to pop a ballon with a whip? Not that I want to crack on the guy but I think he should have put in a little more practice before trying that in front of a crowd.

A Death Star for $35? I wish I had looked around at Steel City more. I was set up there so I didn't get a chance to shop much. I picked up a Vintage Slave 1 for $20, loose and complete but no box, a few loose ewoks in trade and a really clean unbroken Micro Millenium Falcon for just about nothing. Nothing overall too exciting but I haven't collected Vintage in a long time so I'm just slowing starting to get back into it. I had a friend of mine set up behind me who had a mountain of Vintage Star Wars I wish I could have come home with. He had a really nice working RC Sandcrawler but way out of my budget. It's been a long time since I've seen one of those.

Got my two today. I'm just not as lucky as others, both crushed; even double boxed. One fared ok though, the card is really curvy but the bubble survived undamged. I'd just liked to have had the inner box not crushed. I can probably flatten the card out and it will look great. Just a heads up that not all are surviving. Not a realy big deal for me though, the promotion runs until 2011 and I don't think you can have too many of this guy.

This was also available on the TRU site and according to the TRU site it should be available in TRU stores. I've not seen it myself but it took awhile for all of the TRU stores in my area to finally stock the ESB version AT AT.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2010 "Vintage" Collection Wave 4 - AotC
« on: November 15, 2010, 01:28 PM »
I don't know, I'm betting that wave 3 will be all over the place for awhile. For the most part I've seen all of the VC figures at retail in multiples, even Boba Fetts and the Foil Carded Fett; which seems to have been the only hard to find at retail figure. I'm not sure if it's still the case but in order to purchase direct from hasbro you have to take the whole of their product offering, I believe that includes the revisions. I could be wrong. Since nearly all of these revisions are shipping about the same time then every big box store will be getting at least 10 cases. At first it seems odd that they would ever make this many revisions of any wave unless you consider it's an attempt to flood retail with it since it's right around the holiday season and wave 4 possibly isn't shipping until January. I'd even bet that when the line is looked at from a future time that wave 3 will be the most common assortment of figures, not counting Vader as we know that will probably be the most common figure overall. Sorry for making wave 3 comments in the wave 4 post but I think my response would have been out of place elsewhere.

Have you checked with the Target staff to see if there are more in back? I keep seeing these restock, I just saw 4 of these sets yesterday. Some stores are backwards too. I find one set at one store and the other at the next. In some cases I'm seeing both. I don't believe these are too limited but they seem to only put 2 of each set out at a time. I wouldn't panic yet until after Black Friday; even then you might still get lucky. With the exception of a handful of CW figures, the BMF Falcon and wave 3 VC I'm seeing just about everything at retail right now.
