Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Classic board games thread
« on: August 29, 2008, 01:09 PM »
I think this is the Haunted House game you mean. It was originally called Witch Witch. Then it was changed to Ghost Castle.

Yeah, that was it. The UK edition was called Haunted house when Denys Fisher put it out over there. Ones of these day's I'll have to take a pic of all the games we've been picking up. Recent additions are a vintage booby trap game and a TMNT game. I can't think of what it is offhand, I'm sure there were a few different games made.

Wow! Some of those are pretty cool. I remember one growing up called haunted house that was a 3-D board game with a swinging broom and a silver ball that would get knocked down stairs to trip you up. I haven't seen it in years. I have a couple of those Dungeons and Dragons game but the problem with them is the touch board goes bad. I've not tried to take one apart to fix but I've got two complete ones if you ever get one missing pieces but works. I've been hitting thrift stores and picking up any cool games I can find. Recent pick ups include a complete Death Star Escape and Transformers board games. We just picked up a working Manhunt game. We pick up just about any complete board game we can find but try to stick to vintage and 3-d/electronic type games. The stuff you just don't see. The wierder the better. We've managed to build up quite a collection of them. I saw one of those Dark Tower games at a toy show not too long ago, he wanted $400 for it. I had a friend growing up who had it and we played it all the time. I emailed her not too long ago to see if she still had it but she had given all her old games to goodwill. I figure if I keep hitting them long enough I'll come across some of the games I grew up with. We picked up a game called Wedjet too, it's a bit complicated but looks like it could be fun. We've found a few Egyption themed games, most of them like chess but made out of wood with a lot of detail. Plus we manage to find some cool toys once in awhile. I got a lego Millenium Falcon once for $15 but had to part with it when I was short on cash.

It looks to me that they packed the trooper in backwards to make it appear as if he was approaching them. It looks like crap but that appears to me to be what they were trying to accomplish.

I haven't snagged any of the figures. I have a remote controlled K-9 and the Tartis Playset though. I just need the 1st season doctor and Rose for it. I was only into the first season (I got rid of cable after that) so I only want the characters from the 1st season.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Recent Legacy Purchases
« on: July 26, 2008, 12:38 PM »
Midnight Madness is not a children's sport...

I got to MM around 11PM and the line was probably about 20 deep at that point. Not too bad but I was only after a handful of figures. By the end I'm sure it was 50+. It was funny hearing mothers talk about the lines and of course there were collector clubs who were letting late arriving members cut in line so I never heard the end of the complaints from mothers. They just didn't have any idea what they were getting into. The only real dissapointment is it looks like TRU let their employees and family have first pick of stuff while we all waited outside. They were very understocked. Here's what I scored during the insanity.

Ak-Rev 1st day foil x1
Removable Helmet Vader x1
Yarna D'al' Gargan x1
Bane Malar x1
Leektar & Nippet x1
Holo Grievous x1 (I was told the store only got two cases and most people overheard in line were after this and the 1st day issue Captain Rex)

Once I heard of the Grievous shortage I planned on just getting in and out. I managed to be out in less than 10 minutes.

Today for the hell of it I stopped by Target at 8 in the morning. No line, the place was dead and we were the only ones there as they were putting stuff out. Picked up the following just because I could:

Removable Helmet Vader 1st day foil x1
Yarna D'al' Gargan 1st day foil x1
Bane Malar 1st day foil x1
Exclusive Commander Fox x1

They were a bit annoyed we were there but didn't complain too much.

We had to make a road trip so we hit a small Wal-mart today around 9 and I scored the following:

IG Lancer Droid x2
Clone Trooper x1
Clone Scuba Trooper x1
Padme Amidala x1
Mon Calamari Warrior x1
Captain Rex 1st day foil x2
Leektar & Nippet 1st day foil x1

They had a huge display that hadn't been hit very hard at all. They only had the one Padme though.

Last night had me concerned on what I'd find in the short term but everything I picked up this morning I was the only person there doing any star wars shopping. It was an odd change compared to MM. I was really only after Legacy but I managed to score everything I wanted.

The Walmart was the only place that had wave 2 figures but they didn't have any wave 2 foils. I couldn't believe that there wasn't a single person at Target this morning though. They had all the evolutions too.

I'm going to hit these stores up later tonight too just to see if they get picked over through the afternoon or if this line is going to sit. Target was the only store we hit that had them at $7.99. Maybe that's why they were quiet.

I saw the Vaders at Wal-mart this past weekend with the 2 dot eyes. Either Wal-mart is putting out old stock or Hasbro is shipping both versions still.

Well, I finally got mine. Did anyone else get this? It requires a bit of assembly but I've not been able to put it together yet. Because of the size and a lack of room for it at the moment my girlfriend is fighting me on setting it up until I clear out a bunch of space. I just wondered if anyone had any assembly issues with it and if it can be unassembled for transport. Right now I just have this huge box in my garage where my car should be glaring at me to put it together.

I would like to talk about variants. I have seen alot of talk and some listings of variant stormtrooper and vader. There seems to be some disagreement. As far as I know, the vader variant has two dots for eyes not four, and the stripe on his helmet is more pronounced. However, I have seen the four dot vader listed as a variant! I am not even sure there is a stormie variant. The story with these seems to be that the variant has the pronounced grey shading on his face whereas the normal one has either very light shading or none at all. Does anyone have any insight into this that constitutes more than rumor? Mebbe we can ask hasbro?

I'm not so sure it's actually a variant on the Vader. I think the first one had the extra set of eye dots that made it confusing to look at. So the way I see it is the 4 dots is an error and the 2 dots is the correction. Not exactly an intentional variant in my opinon.

I picked up two of the Stealth Bumblebee figures last night. Has anyone heard about any paint variations on this?

Well of the Souls / Re: May 1st - What are you buying?
« on: May 1, 2008, 12:55 PM »
Hasbro Toy Shop is showing basically anything that's out now in stock and at $6.99ea. Why is it that Hasbro is selling these for less than the retail price? Or is it the retailers who are just trying to push the price up? Either way it seems like Hasbro want's to gradually push buyers into buying from them instead of stores. Reminds of something Marvel did back in the early/mid 90's. A move that put a lot of comic shops out of business...

I preordered cases on this line. I'd rather pay the shipping, get the complete assortment and not waste a bunch of gas doing it. I don't have them yet but I can wait and it sounds like stores might be dropping the ball on this one. I'm pretty much only interested in ROTLA and TLC figures. I wasn't a big fan of TOD. I may change my tune though once I see these in person. I'd like to see them release updated versions of older playsets but since they have yet to put out an updated Death Star I doubt I'll see an updated map room or well of souls.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: AFA and HasbroToyShop
« on: December 12, 2007, 03:55 PM »
I think this is the final insult Hasbro could do. They shouldn't be in the secondary market at all. It reminds me of what Marvel did back in the early 90's. They pretty much had a linear monopoly going on and when they bought a distributor and made it to where Marvel products were only available exclusively through them it put a lot of retailers out of business and ultimately Marvel had to file bankruptcy, restructure and sell off their card companies, the sticker company and a bunch of other business just to survive the problem they created for themselves. AFA is a scam for how much they charge to grade a figure in the first place and condition is almost always a matter of perspective anyway. I hope Hasbro chokes on all the inventory they have on these AFA fiasco's.

It's always a bad sign when a manufacturer not only competes with their customers on the primary retail market but to jump into the secondary market has to be suicide. You can't find anything at retail because Hasbro has been hording it all for themselves.

The only thing I don't like about this is the cover. Mine has a satin finish with a spot varnish coating. If you don't know what that means it's the majority of the cover looks like it's a matte finish while some parts are glossy. The matte parts take on scratches and fingerprints like mad though. I can't pick the thing up without doing some small damage to the cover. Even the slightest smudge shows up. As I mentioned before this was a book club version so it doesn't come with the CD's (which is the only thing not included, everything else is there) but it was only $28.99 before tax too and no shipping charges involved. I'm planning on picking up the version with CD's too though to set back since they come shrinkwrapped. This one will take the abuse of getting read and handled by any and everyone I show it to. Personally, if you're on the edge about getting this just take the leap and get it. You'll wish you had later. It's a pretty big book too.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: 2007 30AC UGH Promotion
« on: October 31, 2007, 12:13 PM »
For a brief moment today Entertainment Earth had the wave 4 revision 1, 2 and 3 cases in stock. They're all sold out now but at least I'm finally getting 3 of the 4 revision cases I ordered. Hopefully I'll have those early next week. Now if they only have the UGH figures, I've heard that some of these cases are showing up without UGH figures in them.

Jocasta's Reading Room / The Star Wars Vault Hardcover Book
« on: October 30, 2007, 12:29 PM »
Does anyone else have this? I just picked it up and the stuff in this thing is just fantastic. It's not the version with the 2 CD's (I think that one hit's shelves today actually) but still, it's full of all kinds of crap. I haven't started to read it yet but I wanted to see if anyone else had it and what their thoughts were on it.

I ended up paying $29 for it but it doesn't have the CD's. It's an exclusive book club edition or something like that so the discs weren't a part of it to begin with. I think one of the coolest things in it for me anyway is the inclusion of a punch out land speeder that was a part of a burger chef kids meal back in the day. Then again, I'm old enough to remember it. For all the stuff packed into it I don't mind not having the discs. Not everything can be removed from the book but just about every other page or so has something either attached to it or removable.

Thank you for ordering from Entertainment Earth. Unfortunately, Star Wars Mighty Muggs Urban Vinyl Action Figures Wave 1 (Item HS78016A), which you ordered, has been cancelled by the manufacturer. From time to time manufacturers cancel items for a variety of reasons. No additional information was given as to why this item was cancelled, however"

These are still available, instead of putting all 8 figures in a case and selling it that way they just split it into two assortments.
