If I'm not mistaken, these are based off of the vintage combinations which would not include that particular imperial combination. Too bad.

Seems pretty darned close to me (scroll down to the bottom).  Or as close as you can get without the right Bespin Guard.  Hasbro did their homework on this one.

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Street Date Debate
« on: July 28, 2010, 11:59 PM »
Hard to tell who is in the wrong without knowing all the details (contracts) but I will say that if Hasbro doesn't want stores to sell these things before a certain date, they shouldn't be shipping them out three months in advance. ::)

It's not hard to tell in the slightest. Nobody is paying fines. This is my business, and business is a-booming.

Did anyone else see the story over at Yakface about Hasbro reps planning on fining stores for putting stuff out early and trying to make them take it down with a week left before it can even be put out? This is just getting sad if true.

The story, ala Yakface:

Quote
i decide to to Target at lunch and I found the entire wave of new Star Wars including vehicles and Clone Wars, and I noticed a lady that had a Hasbro name tag looking and scanning the figures. So I kinda hung around deciding if I need a couple of doubles like the AT-AT commander and cloud car pilot. I overhear her on her phone calling someone and then she gives the zip code of the store and store number and starts talking about a fine of $200 saying this stuff should not be out tell August 3rd. She then says that the manager is not there but she has already informed the supervisor and they are aware.

She also said that the new Transformers were out so they could be dinged on that as well. So I quickly grabed the figures I wanted and head to the front because I could hear talking about having someone from electronic come over and pull these off the shelf.

Target's putting stuff out. :D

Hasbro's getting pissed.

Learn you lesson, Hasbro, dammit!

The lesson is to stop listening to the man on the street for intel on how Hasbro deals with its customers.  This is bogus.  Not to mention a $200 fine is a waste of time to collect on for BILLION DOLLAR corporations with multi-million dollar accounts.

The Legacy Collection / Re: EE Comic Packs
« on: July 15, 2010, 06:02 PM »
We're offering this to EVERYBODY at the lower $59.99/set price, but only through the end of the day on Friday.  We've even got a countdown timer showing how long the sale is for so people know not to miss out on the pre-order special.  So yeah, order today, it's cheaper than it will be on Saturday!

...and the final 2 figure pictures went up. (When I edited this post.)

And because I am required by law to plug these (and giddy as all heck over Baron Fel), the The final 4 comic packs are now up for pre-order on Entertainment Earth.  They are Entertainment Earth exclusives (with the sticker and the whole ball of wax.)   I recently got a glimpse at the protos in person, and while I'm easy to please, I really like these.

4 figures have new sculpts
2 figures have new heads, coloring, and minor changes
2 figures look great and are mostly new bits but will be revealed later

As always, they are slightly cheaper (about $15 per) when you buy a set/case over individual figures.

I'm confused about  this one...didn't we just get a Jodo Kast last year?

September 2008.  Since this likely will not hit until late July/early August, that's almost 2 years.  So it's close in a cosmic sense but 18 months is forever in this business.

Shadows of the Dark Side / Re: Larger Hoth Battle Packs

I hope/expect they put more stuff in the Rebel box.  A turret and two figures against an AT-ST and two figures? No contest if the prices are the same.

That Turret is... nice, I guess?  But it's no contest against the AT-ST as far as toy awesomeness goes.  Unless it's the old AT-ST... and really, even then, still no contest.

Shadows of the Dark Side / Re: Jabba's Throne w/Oola

I hope this is a summer exclusive and not a late fall one, I want this now!

I wanna know the price.  Because this, the Kit Fisto Jedi Starfighter, Kul Teska, Jodo Kast, and who knows what else all seem to be pretty close to ready-to-go...

I never noticed his tat in the movie...will have to watch for as well.  Was Jabba a sailor at some point?

Not only was it in the movie, the original Kenner toy had it in 1983.  And Hasbro (and modern Kenner) forgot it pretty consistently in the modern line, despite also being featured prominently in things like the Shadows of the Empire comics.

(I complained to anyone who'd listen that the next Jabba needs the tattoo.  I'm glad to see it, you probably guessed.)

Oh, no - I really hope it isn't this one! How could Hasbro include such an under-articulated, old sculpt into such a premium line like Vintage?! This is a terrible choice! I hope Hasbro repacks the Episode III tin Yoda with the hover chair.

Oh no.  They're probably going to take the under-articulated, old sculpt in a premium line and remove the Chian figure at a premium price.  (Hey, they did it to OTC Wicket, minus the premium price.)

Wait...where do they look like your average toy company employee (other than the Hasbro action figures)?

Look at Pre Vizsla, Tobbi Dala, or Fenn Shysa.  These aren't particularly disfigured people, they just look like some guys.

57
<snip>
They just do not look like Mando warriors, that's all i am sayying.

I'd disagree, but only because Mando warriors aren't something we see a lot of.  I'll take "I don't like them" or "they didn't fit with my idea of what they should be," but we've seen very few unhelmeted Mandalorians on-screen.  (A one-off article in a magazine does not established continuity make.)  Jango Fett had practically pristine armor, and just a couple of minor scars-- which you really don't see when scaled down to a 3 3/4-inch action figure.  Meanwhile, Boba Fett looks like he got beaten with everything the galaxy had to throw at him.  And Pre Vizsla is pretty clean looking, including his face and armor.  (Since we see scars on Clones, this was likely not an oversight.)  So as on-screen appearances go, I wouldn't say the six Mandalorians in the EE exclusive packs don't fly in the face of most of the major film/video stories.

Heck, even Tobbi and Fenn were pretty boring looking.  Tobbi was a thin bald guy, and Fenn's hair is pretty non-warrior-like.  (In some of the Marvel SW comics, I'd almost say he looked more like a Ken doll.)  Hondo Karr had some pretty wacky hair in the comics, even though he's from a different era he's just another blond dude.

While we did see some nice drawings in that one Star Wars Insider article, well, I basically give the movies, TV, and comics (in that order) as taking precedent over magazine articles and novels.  But that's me.

The nature of "Mandalore" has been pretty inconsistent from the get-go.  Marvel had one take.  The 1990s Expanded Universe sorta had something else.  I thought I remember reading, around 2002, that the Mandalorians were basically wiped out and Jango (and Boba) were pretty much all that remained, or am I misremembering?  And then we saw all these drill sergeants, which I thought were these under-the-radar guys, and then it slowly started creeping out that there was a whole Mandalorian culture floating around out there around the time of that magazine article in the Star Wars Insider.  And then all of that got tweaked with The Clone Wars last season.

I guess there's just so much material out there on these guys that, whatever you'd like to make as a case for your view on them, you can probably do.  Since there were no pre-existing interpretations of these characters, I have no real beef with how they turned out because Dred Priest didn't conflict with any existing Dred Priest stuff I saw.   Also, if you want to get technical (and since I'm here anyway, why not), who's to say what they look like?  It used to be that your average office tech guy was thought of as having glasses, a white shirt, and a tie.  Now you're just as likely to see someone with piercings and tattoos and maybe crazy dyed hair.  The whole preppie thing seemed to invade hip hop for a few minutes, so Mandalorian culture-- like any culture-- seems to be filled with lots of unique individuals from diverse backgrounds who, apparently, look a lot like your average toy company employee.  Good on them for keeping their helmets on and not getting too beaten up, which I believe was something that came up as a "Rookie Mistake" on The Clone Wars TV show this season.

So yeah, Star Wars remains open to interpretation.  Hasbro's interpretation certainly fits within the confines of what Lucasfilm and its licensees have previously established over the past 3 decades but I totally get that it isn't necessarily quite what everybody would have expected.  And it's entirely possible we'll see a new interpretation of the warrior clan come the live-action TV series.

So do you have an exclusive on tap for this year?
Not looking for specific hints just looking if you will have one.

god question - I hope so - I have bought all of the EE exclusive sets!  I think they are good.

I'm not at liberty to discuss unannounced products.  But who knows, maybe Hasbro will drop or has dropped a nugget somewhere in their Q&As.  On a site.  Somewhere.  Maybe.  (Can't say.)

I loved you post! It really bothered me how Emo they looked. The EE Mandos looked like a boy band. I am sure it was self indulgence of Hasbro or EE employees putting their likeness in there. Cannot blame them but scars and some scruff would go a long way.

I'd say that's a little harsh... several of them are Hasbro employees.  (And some are probably Hasbro employees I haven't yet met.)  But if you put my head on there it'd be a lot uglier.  And don't forget, scars are real easy to add to an otherwise pristine figure...

Have you looked at KM prices lately? For a store that promotes itself to lower income families they are more expense than every store out there. I can see them fluffing the price either way I am happy to pay it. It's weird he is on a CW card when he is not animated. Maybe he will ship in CW cases instead of Legends.

Kmart seems to be consistently 10% more than "normal" retail where I've been hunting lately, but I'm more concerned about the general lack of Kmarts in general.  Unless it's going into Sears too or something.  I mean, it's not like the tins or the Clone 4-packs, this is actually interesting.  If it's less than ten bucks I'll be stunned.  Hopefully it won't be a gift-with-purchase, because that'd likely really *hurt.*
