The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars Episode VII
« on: December 10, 2012, 02:53 PM »
I am a big EU fan but I think the Sequel Trilogy should either completely ignore it or use whatever bits and pieces serve the story. I think seeing Luke as a Jedi Master is a must. I think the first movie should catch us up with the OT characters and establish the new threat. the second movie should move the focus from the OT characters to the ST characters (hopefully the children of the Skywalker/ Solos), and the third should be a vehicle for establishing the ST characters as the new guard.

I don't need or want to see Luke, Han or Leia die. IMO, killing off characters of that stature is a cheap way to get an emotional response from the audience. Not only that, it's been done to death in the EU (Jacen going dark, Anakin dying, Chewbacca dying) and I'm sick of it. Call me sentimental, but I want to see these characters pass the torch and have a happy ending to their respective stories.

I LOVED Gungi the Wookie. He might be my new favorite CW character.

That's really fantastic. I can't wait until it's done.

Sooo Adi Galia has now died twice?

It was nice to see Kenobi FINALLY kick some ass!

I ended up swapping one of the comic pack Lukes heads onto the deleted scene luke. It wasn't a straight swap, I actually cut the swapped him at the neck (drilled a little well into his collar and super glued). It really wasn't that bad. It probably took about 15-20 minutes.

Obi-Wan sure gets his ass kicked alot.

I was thinking the same thing. It would be nice to see him be something other than a complete wuss.

That episode was worth it for the ROTJ send up alone. It is kinda weird that this is the SECOND suicide that has happened on this show.

I feel like the writers don't know what to do with him. Frankly, I'm surprised that he has survived this long. It's like if the character isn't a Jedi, Sith, or Mando they are just filler. Han is just "crazy old Grand-dad" now. Such a waste.

That is after all, one of the more significant hanging plot points of ROTS.  Why would Clone Troopers eliminate every Jedi in their proximity, but not Anakin Skywalker?  How would the troops of the 501st be privy to Anakin's switch in allegiance?

I think Anakin is going to return to Krell attacking the clones and kill Krell in anger. That would be an EPIC fight. After that the clones would follow Anakin into Hell.

With regards to Darth Maul's Return: Star Wars "continuity" is just completely out the window. There just isn't any purpose to caring about it anymore. At this point I don't care who they resurrect as long as it results in a good story. No more alice in wonderland/ wizard of oz. No more cutesy crap. No more senate hearings. No more mediocre Star Wars. However we have to get there, let's see some good stories and some a$$ kicking.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Why does the EU seem to hate Han Solo?
« on: November 16, 2011, 02:37 PM »
I was re- reading Dark Empire the other night and I noticed that they spend alot of time crapping on Han Solo. At one point Luke says something to the effect of the importance of his choice being beyond the abilities of a "space pirate". Admittedly Luke was under the infuence of the dark side at the time. But then his own wife says something about the decisions of Jedi being hard for "normal people" to understand. And there are other little shots at Han throughout DE.

Then I started to think about the EU as a whole and realized Han solo always gets the **** end of the stick. They killed his best friend. They killed both of his sons. They married his daughter to the leader of the Imperial Remnant (after she killed his son of course). Han Solo is the Rodney Dangerfield of the EU; He gets no respect.

Secrets Revealed? HOW ABOUT REVEALING HE ACTUALLY HAS A DAD?

This made me laugh out loud!!! So true. Other secrets I would have liked to have been revealed:

-Sifo-dyas' backstory
-More about Palpatine's training under Plagueis
-clarification on the prophecy of the "chosen one"
-Why the jedi ability to sense the force is diminished
-Why "only the dark lord of the sith" knows about it
-When did Qui Gon learn to commune beyond death (even though that whole concept is unecessary. How about when you die you become a ghost? Very simple.)
-Why the jedi aren't concerned that all of the clones are made from the dude who tried to kill Obi-wan, Mace Windu and Padme

Etc., Etc.

Luke Skywalker

<edit>I took the crits that some of you gave about Luke being a little too buff and I slimmed him down. I sanded down his traps and lats and gave him slimmer arms. For those of you that missed it, the original is below:

This custom has been rolling around in my head for a while. At the beginning of the year I decided I wanted to make my ultimate Star wars line and get back to what got me started with customs in the first place. I posted Vader first but I think I started Vader and Luke towards the end of last year. I had a great idea for how to accomplish this custom but I didn't have the ability to do it alone. This custom is a collaboration between myself, Glassman6, and Jsalwen.

My first version of this figure was completed in November and looked like this:

I PM'd Glorbes and IBMMT to get their thoughts and ultimately ended up going a different way with the custom. I think it was Glorbes that suggested that the vest was too stylized. I also wanted the custom to have some soft goods elements since that's always been a part of Star Wars so I turned to Jsalwen who made some awesome 1/12 scale jumpsuits for his figures. He ended up making me a whole jumpsuited figure pictured here:http://thefwoosh.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2089868#p2089868with a removable tunic.

I wanted to use a shrunk down version of the Sideshow head so I turned to Glassman6 who lives about 20 minutes from me. He was a HUGE help and hooked me up with a few shrunken heads to work with. However I ended up scaling up from 6 inch because the heads were a little too big for the Longshot body I intended to use. So the whole project was moved from 6 inch to 7 inch scale.

I used an ML punisher figuring that with a few mods and Luke's big head I could  make the body look like a short 7 inch figure instead of a buff 6 inch figure. I used the forearms from a DCUC Mr Terrific and the right hand from a MOTUC Hordack and a left from a MOTUC King Grayskull which lengthened his arms. His knees are from ML venom and his belt is from 200X Prince Adam. I painted everything up. I didn't end up using the body suited figure Jsalwen made but the vest worked like magic and made it so I could have a DS2 Luke and a Jabba's palace Luke.

Comparatively I think he might be just a little bit too tall. Just a hair. I agonized over it for a few days but I couldn't figure out a solution that didn't result in Vader being too tall (or ruining Luke's proportions). I have a couple in progress and I want Vader and Chewbacca(already started) to be the same height, Han to be a little taller than Luke etc. The minor discrepancy wasn't worth it to satisfy my OCD and potentially throw off everyone else's relativescale.

Recipe:
Head:Hydroshrunk Sideshow Jedi Luke (Glassman6)
Vest: Custom made by Jsalwen
Body: modified ML Punisher
Knees: ML venom
forearms: DCUC Mr. Terrific
Right hand: MOTUC hordak
Left hand: MOTUC King Grayskull

Thanks so much to Jsalwen and Glassman6!!!! This is now one of my most favorite things that I own.  :D

I think the biggest missed opportunities of the prequels were the opportunities to explain things. Instead of showing us senate hearings why not show us a jedi going through the trials of knighthood? They are mentioned but never explained. Explain the prophecy of the chosen one. Give us a firm answer about Anakin's birth rather than some vague Christ metaphor that may or may not have involved Palpatine. Explain why it makes sense to leave the two potentially most powerful force sensitive children with caretakers who could neither train them or steer them clear of the dark side. I shouldn't have to check wookiepedia or read a novel to know these things. Most of them are (or should be) major plot points.

Ok, so this episode really pissed me off in a sense - Even Piell doesn't die until after ROTS... he's killed a few months after Order 66 is issued. It's in an EU novel, I can't recall the name, but even the Episode Guide confirms this. The fact that the Guide says that Piell's death in this episode is "the character's true fate" just really upsets me, because this is Filoni and his gang saying, "You know what, we know this happens later on, we know this is canon, but screw it." They've done it with Asajj Ventress's backstory, Eeth Koth's original death, now it's being done again. I've really lost faith in this show because of its nefarious reputation to not care about ANY previously established material whatsoever. Who says that Piell's original death in the EU novel isn't just as valid? Sorry for the rant, but I'm a fan of all the original Clone Wars-related EU that precedes this show, and this show has just demolished it all.

I agree that I don't like how quick LFL is to piss on the EU. I mean how much does it suck to be the writer who went to all that trouble to have GL essentially contradict his book for really no good reason. It made for a moving episode but it really wasn't necessary.  But despite all of that, the show is damned entertaining.
