30th Anniversary Collection / Re: 'Scum's 2007 report... Oh my!
« on: June 24, 2006, 04:32 PM »
Uh... I'm holding my doubts out on this one because some of this sounds a bit on the incredible/can't believe they'd actually make that side. Yuuzhan Vong? Holiday Special Boba Fett?! Hell, I'd be surpised if they admitted the Holiday Special exists much less make a figure for it!

Good things in my book:

ROTS Galactic Marine (I don't know if I want one, but given how many times I've heard this in passing among customizers, plus the similarities to snowtrooper armor, I count it as a good thing if it's really going to be out there)
ROTS Clone Trooper (if it's the SA one I'm sure people wanted this)

ANH Luke Skywalker (this could be a different assortment of parts of a resculpt, or something, hopefully; surely they wouldn't rereuse the commtech sculpt + worse head sculpt again so soon?)
Biggs Darklighter in Academy Outfit - automatic money from me if I find one, unless he's shockingly horrible like a Saga Hoth Rebel Trooper or something

ROTJ C-3PO (could they be reprinting the excellent Endor Wave C-3PO? He'll need it I think)
Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight (don't know if this is really a good thing, it stinks of '04 rereleaseness, but it might be interesting, especially if it's a new sculpt)
A-Wing Pilot
Holiday Special Boba Fett, instant collectors' hit. I'd buy one.

AOTC Anakin Skywalker (unless they're planning to rerelease Saga 02 garbage or Secret Ceremony Anakin, this could be the evolutions Anakin, and if nothing else that means excellent fodder)
Yuuzhan Vong (wow. Just, wow. Not that this is my first choice for an EU figure, but I'm glad to see any Novel-exclusive characters/races making it to figure form again)
AOTC Clone (see above)

VTSC:
Luke Bespin
Imperial "Snowtrooper"
Han Solo (bespin)
Princess Leia Organa Endor Battle Gear

All good things there, but what's up with Bossk? Couldn't they pick an alien a bit more, uh, popular/important? I guess he hasn't had a resculpt in a while, but... heck, I'd rather seen Nien Nunb or, here's a grand idea, Admiral Ackbar. Now Ackbar, I might actually spend $12 on.

Glad to see if the Expanded Universe 2 packs are really being made, but probably not going to buy any of the things listed there. Make some Thrawn trilogy sets, Hasbro, and you're my new best friend.

At any rate, interesting repot, and it'll be quite interesting to see how it really pans out...

What I really want to know, though, is where does the Yavin wave fit in?

EDIT: I missed mentioning it in there, but I'm kinda glad tos ee this McQuarrie stuff being made too. But Thrawn trilogy/etc. figures would still get a lot more attention- and money- from me.

I finally got my hands on a TSC Boba Fett the other day after looking for one since January, and I have to say that for the most part, I'm pleased. The sculpting's all good, the legs of course are awesome, I even like the flame stand better than I was expecting... but that action feature reeks of 2002 in a horrible way. His arms cannot be made to stay up, unless they're all the way back and then he's got his arms flailing over his head. otherwise, it's drop-city, and who wants that?

So, I was wondering if there's a good customizing fix for this. I really don't care for the intended action feature at all- I mean, you push down on his jetpack, which is a wacky place for a button anyway, and so both of his arms swing up? I could maybe see one arm as a "quick draw" feature, but both?? Why? What is he supposed to be doing? Dancing? Celebrating his victory Final Fantasy-style? Panicking because Luke chopped up his nice gun? Who knows, but I wouldn't be heartbroken in the least to have it gone if need be.

The trouble is, I'm not too sure how he's assembled. It's not really my goal to remove the action feature insomuch as to maket the shoulders tighter, so that they can stay in lifted stances, But I have no clue if those are mutually exclusive, inclusive, or if it's possible or not.

So, if anyone knows anything about how this figure is assembled or has had success in fixing this problem in the past, such information would be very helpful. Thanks!

Feedback / Re: Ook's feedback
« on: June 22, 2006, 11:18 PM »
Just finished a trade that's been in-progress for a while. Basically, Ook offered to send me three figures and a couple hologram figures, but things got a little busy- somewhat on both ends- and the trade took a bit over a month to actually complete. I'm very happy with the results, though, the stuff is exactly as described and I couldn't ask for a better deal on it :) Excellent trade in my opinion, thank you!

Just finished a trade/purchase with JayDouble, got a nice loose Ceremonial Luke. JayDouble was very polite and shipped the figure quickly, so I'm happy with this trade :) Thanks!

TV-9D9 / Re: TV Show not centered around Skywalker family
« on: June 22, 2006, 12:23 AM »
"NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"[/I]

Actually, it might work out okay if that's legitimate information, the Vader quote is more in referense to Jesse's terrifying vision.

...although, it'd be improved if there were a bunch of rebel fleet troopers in it, right? ;)

As I've said before, I'm not holding my breath for this show, but I'll look into it once real/more concrete information really starts popping up. At the moment I'm more eager to catch up on earlier EU books (70s, 1983, and early-mid 90s).

Saga Collection '06 / Re: TSC White TIE Fighter
« on: June 22, 2006, 12:16 AM »
If it retails for less I might try to buy one. I don't have any tie fighters, and I'm itching to make Luke and Mara in tiefighter pilot disguise customs. :) I might do better to try to find some kind of used POTF2 Tie Fighter or some such for $20 or less, though.

It looks kinda gray to me, though. Is it whiter than it appears in the pictures, or is the brightness inaccurate to the films in some way?

None... just like my VTSC Biker Scouts (period), Snowtroopers, Commtech or better Stormtroopers...

My "army" sucks. :( Sometime I need to get like $15 or something to spend, and get a couple Commtech Stormtropers and a Snowtrooper or something at least. It's mind-numbingly lame; death by POTF2.

But if I see any of these, I'm grabbing them. Our Wal Mart just restocked with, mysteriously, old UGHs (I got a Fett though:)) and Coruscant Wave figures. Again. No Tatooine Wave, no Heroes and Villains (but maybe that's a good thing), no VTSC. Just the same first four waves of freakin' basic figures.

I'm hopefully going out of town soon though... maybe I'll get lucky enough to find one of these?

...or maybe all they'll have are Anakins, Bib Fortunas, Vaders, and Gummy Mundis. Or, they'll be full of H&V crud, like Anakins and Vaders! Yaaaaaay.

I have considered trying to do some paint removing on troopers once I get some, though; I have two evolutions Sandtroopers, currently I've got one sitting and pretending to be a normal stormtrooper with my ROTJ figures. Chances are, if I get one of these Sandtroopers, I'll be making him into a normal stormtrooper; if I get two I might keep one as a Sandtrooper though.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Battle of Endor Wave
« on: June 9, 2006, 02:29 AM »
Wow... I knew nothing about this figure but the info on the site.

...so that makes 3 figures I'll be needing in the Endor wave(s... however you care to count it) that I'll be needing, then ^.-

Also, as I said, I'm the "Out of Date" spokesperson. My figure collection is still like 75% POTF2s.... but, september doesn't really throw my theory. Only Hasbro/Lucasfilm's obvious and time-proven lack of common sense to concoct such a scheme will do that ;) Or, it'll turn out to be true, and we'll all rue the day because of some unforeseen gimickery.

I actually own two Force Files. They're interesting to a point, but...

I have to say, that while a little plastic thing is more impressive than a piece of paper, the Force Files were more relavent to the figure and better thought-out than this mini holo schtick. Although I love the stands, and the hologram figures can be used as a nice seperate display thingy... but they're just so totally unrelated to the figure that it makes me roll my eyes at the cheapness and lack of thought and sheer gimickyness. I guess it beats having action features on the new sculpts though...

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Battle of Endor Wave
« on: June 9, 2006, 02:09 AM »
Oh... well, that makes sense really, but when are the DVDs coming out? Isn't that still up in the air as well?

Like I said, my theory is a bit whack probably. Just something that popped to mind, and seemed like it might fit.

Whenever these come out, I'm still looking forward to that Luke and to C3PO. If I have the money to spare I might pick up a Vader too... though I might hunt up a real Emporer's Wrath Vader instead.

But for now I should be finding a R5-D4 and a Sandtrooper, really. I'd so love to get a bunch of those Sandtroopers, and make custom normal stormtroopers out of them... but I bear the Curse of the POTF2 apparently. Anyone want 2 normal (actually they're painted a bit, but it's only minor improvements), one slightly reposed, and two WIP reposed (not my handywork, though I'll probably seriously be finishing them) POTF2 stormtroopers, in exchange for one VOTC? How about two or three commtechs?? Pleeeease? No? Okay...

Perhaps I should go to bed. >.<

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Battle of Endor Wave

Dumb aside thought from someone who never really keeps up with the news on anyting all that well:

With the Tatooine Wave is out now, and only two waves left supposedly in "The Saga Collection," this theoretically puts the line finishing up by July or August, right? Doesn't that mean that the line will be finished by the DVDs are out?

Now, I know there's those funky "DVD collector's sets" of repack figures that only I could love (because I don't even own the 4+ year old originals), but remember, there was a mention in some article about a "new line of action figures." As last I checked everyone assumed it meant those box sets, but perhaps this refers in fact to a real new line of figures, starting with the Yavin wave? And if there's a "rumored OTC2 line," that would make perfect sense to coincide with the new OT DVD release.

Just a thought ;) Might be a totally bogus, wacky theory on my part.

Quote
I'd say even simpler would be that the Imperials removed the vest from him, being sure to strip him of potential concealment spots for a weapon they missed.  He is missing it when they drag him to Vader afterall and hand over the only weapon he had...
Wow- that makes so much sense! It always seemed weird to me once I noticed that he removed it; there was no real reason for doing that. He wore it in combat to Jabba's palace/the sail barge, and kept it on seemingly for the rest of the movie, and it was the "jediish" part of his outfit; seems like he would probably wear it on the Death Star. But the imperial troops removing it, on the other hand... makes perfect sense.

I am definately, definately grabbing that Luke if I ever find him in stores/reasonably priced online. Luke and C3PO are my big aims for the Endor wave :)

The Naboo line has me about as fascinated as an average session of congress though- that Obi Wan is an utter waste of potential to make something better. Come on, at least they could've tried to make a new headsculpt that actually looked like it was supposed to resemble Ewan McGregor instead of some nameless "bloke." The resemblance lies in the outfit and the hairdo, and possibly in the head being from about the right age group, and not much else.

I can't wait to see how the Yavin wave pans out, though...

PM sent about Mara Jade Figure! *chuckles evilly, mumbling something about "I've found it"*

EDIT: Err, actually I found two things I was interested in, so there's two PMs. Sorry >.< I was a bit hasty when I saw the Mara Jade.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Go for your sidearm
« on: June 3, 2006, 01:19 PM »
Ah, but what about Chewie's gargantuan sniper missile rifle? He and Han could just make it to a corner and Chewie would blow up chunks of the Cantina at a safe distance. Hammerhead's oversized weapon would explode in the process, but they'd probably be at a safe enough distance.

Seriously though, I think unless it was their fight, Han would say "Oh crap, better get out of here" and the two would fight their way sucessfully to the docking bay and leave the mess behind. Han wasn't really big on getting involved (not counting stuff like Han Solo's Revenge at least), if you'll remember.

As for the other cantina residents... hard to say, but my bets are on Wuher, Muftak, Hem Dazon, and Djas Phur. Mostly Wuher actually- I agree with the hide-behind-the-bar-and-snipe-the-winner theory. Greedo, however, would go down in the first three minutes.

But we all know who's really the deadliest person in the Cantina:

The Original Trilogy / Re: Holy Trilogy on DVD!
« on: June 3, 2006, 01:09 PM »
I'm happy to have this rather than nothing, and I might buy them, but I certainly wouldn't be if I already owned the original DVDs.

However, while I don't know what anamorphic technically means either, I get the impression these are going to be full-screen, fuzzy, generally crappy quality copies, and that's just not right when everybody knows that they could've at least given us crappy-quality widescreen versions. But I think what everybody was hoping to see was a remastered version of the original movies, in almost as good quality as the new versions. That's not really a whole lot to be asking for at this point either, but instead Lucasfilm wants to take the cheap route and still see if they can squeeze money out of the fans. It's VOTC C3PO all over again, so to speak.

Frankly, if Lucasfilm's position is "oh noes it's expensive to remaster the whole movie again," then surely they have some unedited copies from when they were working on the '97 SE, but also, if nothing else they could splice in the scenes that weren't edited/weren't edited significantly (sound modifications, stuff like Piett's rank badge) and only remaster the scenes that were truly modified (Han and Greedo's original exchange and such).

But, as I said, I'll buy these if nothing better comes along and I don't happen to find the original DVDs a lot cheaper. But I sure wouldn't be buying them if I had the original DVDs, because these copies are nothing to get worked up over- you could easily do the same thing yourself and apparently it'd even be quasi-legal.

Updated after several purchases, added items, and some other changes. Also, I've added a mini-list for those who don't care to read through my whole list- although, it's good if you read that too/instead ;)
