TV-9D9 / Re: Live Action Show Based Around OT?
« on: October 10, 2006, 11:16 AM »
From an interview on MTV.com:

"In 2007, Lucas will begin work on a live-action "Star Wars" show set during the 18-year gap between Episodes III and IV. "We haven't started yet; I start that next year," the filmmaker said, adding that he's determined to write an entire first season before shooting begins on the show that will star "background" characters from that time period.

"None of the Skywalker story, none of that stuff is in there," he explained, shooting down any depiction of a young Han Solo acquiring the Millennium Falcon or running with Lando Calrissian. "It's completely different. The animated series has got all the characters in it. The one that comes after, the live-action one, is with people who were in 'Star Wars,' but they're not the main characters."

Lucas said the plot will be steered by characters such as Tie-Fighter or Rebel pilots, most only briefly glimpsed in the six "Star Wars" films."

Doesn't sound like a compelling way to bridge the gap of EPIII and EPIV...  But maybe that's just me.  I would prefer to have stories about the building of the Empire, start-up of the Rebellion, stories of young Luke and Leia, follow-up on Obi-Wan and Yoda.  Maybe I should reserve judgement until we get more details of this, but right now, I'm pretty disappointed.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: Anyone else losing interest?

I started collecting these as a way for my two kids to enjoy them when they are old enough.  However, in the last year I've questioned whether or not they will even know/recognize Polis Massan, Gragra, or the Mustafar Lava Miner when they start to watch the movies/play with these figures.  So I think that my days of getting every carded figure are definitely over.  Same thing with the vehicles.  I think that the Falcon, X-Wing, Anakin/Obi-Wan starfighters are on screen enough to justify buying them.  But when Hasbro is on the fifth re-paint of the ROTS starfigters and fourth re-paint of the AOTC/CW starfighters, I can't keep plunking down $20-$30 for these.

I think that I'm at the point now where I can stick to Battle Packs and get the figures that they would recognize and not break the bank ($20 for a BP vs. $7+ for each individual figure).  But I do know that I'll have to pick up a few of the carded figures here and there.  Same with vehicles.  I missed the POTF AT-AT, so I can 'justify' getting the latest release.  However, if they release another one in a year or so, I won't bother.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Indiana Jones 4
« on: October 5, 2006, 10:43 AM »
From the Variety interview:

"Nor is Lucasfilm's exit from features instant or absolute. "Indiana Jones 4" is still in development. "Steve (Spielberg) and I are still working away, trying to come up with something we're happy with. Hopefully, in a short time, we will come to an agreement. Or something," Lucas said, without a great deal of enthusiasm."

I don't know about you guys, but if it's October 2006 and they 'are still working away, trying to to come up with something we're happy with', I don't see them starting production in mid-2007 as they previously stated in their Empireonline interview.

Question for everyone.  I've been trying to find back issues of Insider and found that issue #23 is the 'Premiere Issue'.  What was Insider refered to prior to issue #23?  Any help you could lend is appreciated.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: TPB Books vs. Individual Issues
« on: September 13, 2006, 01:38 PM »
I was just having this conversation with a co-worker of mine today and thought I would ressurect this discussion.  With the onset of Rebellion and Legacy, I'm torn as to whether or not to buy the individual issues or not.  So far I've gotten issues 0-3 of Legacy and I'm not sure if I'm going to continue on or not.

I got into the Dark Horse SW comics far too late to buy the individual issues of Empire and others, so the TPB route has been a great way for me to catch up without having to hunt down back issues.  Also, I think that these display much better than individuals and have no problem putting these on the shelves with my other SW books.  But there's the part of me that wants to know what's happening on a monthly basis with a story and can't wait until DH decides to put these out in TPB format.

In everyone's experience, what is the typical time lag between when the individual issues are out and when they are released as TPB's?  Has anyone ever stopped mid series and made the switch from individuals to TPB?

This 1 issue a month Legacy series is pissing me off. ;)

Let's hope they don't push back #4.  Picked up #3 today.  Well worth it.
