Kubricks / Re: Recent Acquisitions
« on: July 13, 2018, 11:17 PM »
Been finishing my basement forever and finally found a place to display my 100% bricks again last weekend.  Got me pumped about finishing off the collection so I started looking around on Yahoo!Japan and ebay.  Was able to pick up the DX4 officer today.  One down, two to go.  Probably the hardest of the DX4 chases though - Hammerhead and AT-ST driver.

Also can't believe how many SW be@rs have been released over the last few years.  I sent Medicom a question about whether they are going to ever release more Kubricks and they said to regularly check their official blog  ::) :P  I take that as them saying it's a dead line...  Too bad...

So I ran into an issue with this and ended up not getting it as I had thought.  Long story but basically the seller refused to sell it to Celga and I never got it.  I did however get the Hammerhead I was looking for, so still back to needing only two to complete the regular releases.  The hunt remains!

Booked my hotel off site. Staying close to the Midway airport & can Uber or train it in. $800 Canadian for 7 nights, cheaper than onPeak hotel blocks. Plus I get free breakfast!

I grew up around Midway.  Hopefully you're South of the airport and not too far North.  From what I remember you didn't want to go much past 35th street...

Got my 5-day ticket.  Not sure if I'm going to be able to go all 5 days, but cheaper than buying individuals.

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Solo (SPOILER FREE)
« on: May 26, 2018, 09:11 AM »
Saw it last night.  Went in with an open mind as I was very skeptical of this movie.  I was thoroghly entertained.  My 14 year old said it was one of his favorite SW movies (I wouldn't go that far).  I thought that Donald Glover nailed it as Lando.  He was by far my favorite character.

Ended up getting my card in the mail today.  Pretty cool item to go along with the set.  Glad it finally came.

Definitely sad.  When I was growing up there was a TRU about 20 minutes or so away from my house and that was always my landmark to know where I was at.  I still recall driving with my parents and seeing that TRU (next to the Denny's) and knowing what direction we were travelling and how far away from home we were.  I won't forget that.

I'll miss wandering the aisles reminiscing about what it was like to be a kid...

I don't know a lot about what is going on with their debt, but would it benefit them to move to an online only fomat and exit all of their retail locations?  They are then only carrying the warehouse space and not paying for the retail locations and personnel.  Sucks for all of the employees at all of their locations and the cities now losing out on the tax revenue the stores generated, but it's a possible way to carry on.

I actually drove to the drive-thru on Wednesday and asked if they were available.  They told me they would go on sale Thursday at that location.  They hadn't posted any kind of signage as of yesterday.  So you might be able to call and check when your location to see when they'll be available.

I did that exact thing after I posted my response last night.  Went to two in the area and was told it would be a couple more weeks.  Grrr!  Guess I'm going to have to make up for lost time once they do come out!

Awesome, glad to hear they are out somewhere but unfortunately not by me yet.  I had to resort to a mint shake at Culvers, just not the same.  My two sons are also waiting in eager anticipation.

Did anyone catch Igner's comment during the last earnings call?

"...the duo are “focused on a point in time in the Star Wars mythology and taking it from there.”"

Not entirely sure what this means but I'm going to take it to mean it will be related to an already existent aspect of the canon.  I could be wrong in my interpretation, but that's what I'm going to believe until I'm told otherwise.

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Solo (SPOILERS)
« on: February 5, 2018, 04:44 PM »
I'm still not sold on this new Solo guy, but I like everything else in the teaser and trailer.

Agree with you completely Jeff.  The visuals seem to be top rate and I'm sure it's going to be a fun, action-packed story.  But to me the success of this film is going to fall on them selling him as Han and the audience's acceptance of that.  If they fall short and his performance is flat or off the mark, I don't see the other aspects being able to save this film.

Was searching for old sets on ebay and came across a seller with some TLJ sets at a pretty good discount.  They were also taking offers, so I was able to get the First Order Star Destroyer, Defense of Crait and the First Order Heavy Assault Walker at a 30% discount on each.

Looks like every IL store that's closing is in the Chicago area... although the only one close to me isn't on the list for now.

Yeah, the Vernon Hills store is about 10 minutes from me.  Was just there on Saturday picking up the Lego 'DJ' mini-figure.  Thankfully the one in Gurnee (15 minutes the other direction) will stay open for now.  Helps that it's in the same area as Gurnee Mills mall.  Lots of mall traffic for them to grab.

Wondering if they are going to move inventory to other locations or actually discount it to get rid of it.  Might be worth trying to get some of the larger Lego sets at a 20-30% discount.  I'm not holding my breath for that though...

In addition to the UCS Falcon around Christmas, I picked up Kylo Ren's TIE Fighter, the Rathtar Escape, and Y-Wing Starfighter sets off Amazon today.  Each set was around 20% off retail and I used a bunch of gift certificates I had been saving up.

Star Wars Universe / Re: Is Star Wars special anymore?
« on: January 2, 2018, 04:53 PM »
I'm still very excited about the movies when they come out and so is the rest of my family.  Between these and the Marvel movies, we really look forward to getting tickets for opening night/weekend and can't wait until the day of the screening.  Like Q-G Jim I'm worried about Solo.  I thought RO was a great idea that didn't need to involve key players from the SW universe.  It was really done well and felt like part of the universe.  I'm worried because they are messing with a beloved character and can really screw things up...

The thrill is still there and I hope it continues for many more years to come.
