Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Removing Factory Paint?
« on: June 24, 2006, 10:11 AM »
Hmm. I didn't notice it till someone mentioned it, but yeah the Senate pack Shock Troopers feet are molded in red along with the belt  and the shoulder joint piece. The 501st clones I am refering to are the Battle Pack ones not the ROTS single card ones. The reason I don't just buy a bunch of the #41 clones is two fold. One I tend to spend most of my extra cash buying my 3 year old Star Wars figures and two my local stores either never have anything due to scalpers or poor distribution. Not really sure which it is since there is always the same old Derlins, Veers, and Poggles lkeeping the pegs full.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Removing Factory Paint?
« on: June 23, 2006, 04:23 PM »
Call me crazy, but I have several 501st and Shock Troopers that I want to convert to plain white clones so I can add my own markings and designations. I have never tried to remove factory paint, I usually just paint over it for my customs, but I want to keep from painting these completely white by removing the factory paint. What is the best thing to use to remove the markings on these clones?

Got my first one today. They had two, but I didn't want to be greedy, so I left one for a fellow collector to pick up. ;D

The set looks pretty good. I will get one if I can find one.

Chewie ~ Excellent customs as always! I do have a question for you though. On the Heavy Weapons Rebel, how did you get the Star Wars arms to fit into the XD torso. All the XD figures I have tried to use the torso or legs from have incompatible joints. For example, Star Wars legs have the peg. XD legs have the hole. Star Wars arms have large pegs. XD arms have small pegs meant to be removed to replace with the posed arms. Any help would be appreciated since I really want to use my 7 Endor Rebel torsos with XD Marine arms and legs.

PM sent for a quote.

Hey Hasbro! / A new approach to the line
« on: May 26, 2006, 03:06 AM »
Not sure if this has been brought up before, but I got an idea. The idea comes from a quote I read on another forum from Hasbro. The quote was referring to the G.I. Joe Direct to Consumer line. Basically a Hasbro rep was quoted as saying that they can make roughly 6 new head sculpts for the cost of 1 entirely new figure sculpt.

This info, if based on facts, gave me an idea. I would like to see Hasbro use this to make various head sculpts of some of the more popular species within the Star Wars universe. I would love to see Trandoshans, Rodians, Twi'leks, etc. No named characters. No film specific characters. Just a few different variations of the species. Make maybe two or three head variations for a species and put them on a few generic types of bodies with decent articulation. For example, create a few Quarren heads. Put one with appropriate hands on a VOTC Han body and call it a Quarren Smuggler. Take another head with the same hands and put it on a VOTC X-Wing Luke and call it a Quarren pilot. Hasbro has done it to some extent with the ROTS wookies and if I remember correctly they did it with the Klaatuu in the vintage line.

I know I am in the minority on this, but for me these toys are not all about having  figures from the movies whether they appeared for two seconds or fifteen minutes. For me it is the setting itself. Sure I can take several Bossk figures and paint them varying shades, but in the end they are all still Bossk. However if i had a couple Trandoshan head sculpts casted in different hues and attached to various bodies.... then I could finally make my Trandoshan Wookie slave trader squad. ;D

Just my two cents. feel free to comment.

P.S.
When are we gonna get a Bothan figure? :o

There is also the male Twi'lek Irn Free Taa from the Saga series, but his head is even chubbier than Bib's.

If I may ask, what figure is considered to be the Prisoner Emperor figure?

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: A few questions
« on: May 21, 2006, 02:03 PM »
Did my first boil & pop today with mixed results. I was  using a Endor Rebel Soldier from the 4 pack. I was able to get the limbs and head off easily, but the waist section snapped off in the torso. I had to end up cutting the torso apart. Also as a side note XD Marine figure legs have the peg hole instead of the peg. The peg is attached to the waist section. Anyone got a suggestion on how to use them with the Star Wars waists?

Customizing Tips and Tricks / A few questions
« on: May 18, 2006, 03:24 PM »
Hello! I am new to the forums here and apologize if this is not the right place for this topic, but after seeing the VOTC Saga figures last week, I decided to add Star Wars figures to my collection. I am eager to start doing custom figures and have read quite a few tutorials on the boil & pop method used to remove limbs, but I have a few questions. Any replies would be appreciated.

1. Are the ball joint heads used on Star Wars figures the same size or different sizes?
2. Does boil & pop work for ball jointed shoulders?
3. Is there a tutorial or guide for separating ball jointed limbs i.e. elbows or knees?
4. Is there a list of compatible parts from other figure lines? For example, how compatible with Star Wars figures are XD or Elite Force heads, legs?
