The Original Trilogy / SW is 27 today

Several readers reminded us that Star Wars turns 27 today. On May 25, 1977, Star Wars was released and the saga began. Some things never change though. The crowds still show up on opening day for Star Wars at Grauman's Chinese Theater.  :) :) :)

Saga '02-'04 / Re: $1.00 basic figures = K-Mart

here in greensboro NC, they had left over ep2 figs for $.50 for collection1 and $2.50 for collection2, don't know why. I picked up PLokoon and Tusken mamma for $.50 each. They had several of those, arena padme's, c-3p0's, shaak ti's, SBD's, plus a couple kamino Jango's.

I've tried to design on paper some playsets like the kamino playset and the Lars homestead. I envision the Kamino set sort of like the death star set with three or four levels, an elevator to connect each level plus support beams. One elvel on top would be the slave 1 landing pad, next down would be either jango's aprt or the clone facility. Using cardboard backgrounds to show the scenes as well.
Then the Lars homestead as an opening cylandar that has the different rooms seen inthe movies: the dining rom/kitchen, the garage.

i always thought that as far as the original trilogy stormtropers may have been a combination of Clones and conscripted human soldiers. There's no telling how many clones could still be made from Jango's old dna after however many years and with the Empire growing, they would need more bodies to be troopers.

Fan Art / Rebel/Imperial insignias
« on: May 20, 2004, 12:28 PM »
I am looking for decent sized images of the Rebel Alliance and Imperial insignias to use in some fan art I have in mind.  Prefereably, what I'd like would be big enough to add to an 8x10 sized imaged. most images I've found are way too small to use that big. Any assistance would be hot.

SW: The EU Years

Twenty years pass from the time Anakin Skywalker turns to the darkside and becomes the Emperors’ right hand man Darth Vader. His children – Luke and Leia – are born in secret while his wife Padme Amidala disappears into hiding.
Luke and Leia grow up as destiny shapes their future. Leia grows up in the House of Alderaan with her adoptive father Bail Organna; together they secretly build the foundation for a rebellion against the galactic empire.
Luke grows up in relative obscurity on the remote world of Tatooine with his aunt and uncle. He is stronger in the Force of the two twin children of Anakin Skywalker and must be kept hidden.
The Jedi are wiped out of existence at the hand of Vader and his minions save for two Jedi – Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi; they are the last of the Jedi. Yoda takes refuge on a world cloaked in the darkside power of the Force called Dagobah. Ben ‘Obi-Wan’ Kenobi, meanwhile sets up residence on Tatooine to keep a watchful eye over the son of Skywalker.
Destiny brings them together in a daring attempt to restore freedom to the galaxy and overthrow the galactic empire.

Periods Of Interest

Rebellions’ Dawn: Princess Leia, along with the ruling house of Alderaan lay the foundation for the rebellion in secret.
On the Brink of Darkness: Jedi Master Yoda lives in self-exile on the mysterious world filled by the power of the darkside, hidden from the prying eyes of his enemies.
Dirt, Sweat and Carbon Scoring: Life on Tatooine for young Luke Skywalker is filled with hard work, long days and an empty feeling that there is something more out there for him in the galaxy.
The Empire Rules: Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine rule the galaxy with fear and a strong hand.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting
« on: May 14, 2004, 04:05 PM »
I'd like to add my 2.5 cents  ;)
As a 30+ something SW fan and collector, I don't see having much SW stuff within a few years of ep3 UNLESS some other kind of entertainment is released, like the rumored tv sereis.
as far as the figures go for the OTC, I really don't see myself getting many of them, unless it's a 'gotta, wanna, needa, havea' figure I want. I don't get every figure epescially if it doesn't appeal to me. I didn't get all of the ep2 figs, some just looked like a waste of my money so I didn't get arena padme for instance. I get the figures and rarely vehicles I think are cool and want. I DO want the Sandcrawler - that is a major vehicle from ANH, it played a small but pivotal part.
I prefer posability and likeness over features. While I like figs like shaak ti and luminara, their lack of posability hampers them in my eyes. I have them because they were very striking visually to have.  Of all the posable features, the ball socket shoulder joint is the best.
I hope the line continues for a while as I like SW in general, it won't be around forever.
I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
laters  ;)

Star Wars Universe / Re: Star Wars Actors other movies

Found this out too:
Padme’s Handmaidens continue to take Hollywood by storm. First Keira Knightley (Sabé in Episode I) made it big in Pirates Of The Caribbean with LOTR star Orlando Bloom. Then Sofia Coppola (Saché from Episode I) won the Best Screenplay Academy Award for Lost In Translation. Now Rose Byrne (Dormé in Episode II) stars in Troy as Briseis. Not only does she play Orlando Bloom’s cousin in the movie, she’s the love interest of Achilles, played by Brad Pitt. Byrne’s character is Trojan royalty in the film and she is also a priestess of Apollo. When captured by Pitt’s character, he soon falls in love with her. Briseis ends up giving voice to Achilles’ conscience and is one of the few things standing between him and Troy. Can she convince him to end his attack on her city?
But Byrne isn’t the only Star Wars veteran appearing in Troy. Julian Glover plays King Triopas in the film. You may know Glover better as General Veers in The Empire Strikes Back or Walter Donovan in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Glover is one of the first characters to appear in Troy. He ends up being one of the last Greek kings to surrender to King Agamemnon played by Brian Cox.

I watched SW:ANH:SE this past weekend for the first time in months.  I've watched Empire and Jedi in the past couple months. Haven't watched Clones in a couple months. Watched TPM on Fox.

And Garrick Hagan who played Biggs in ANH was the Dad in the first Batman movie in 89. PLus John Ratzenberger from cheers was in ESB on hoth; the scene was a group shot with leia telling the troops that the ion cannon can only fire two shots; Ratz' character tells the troops "all right, let's go" or something like that.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Episode III Title?
« on: May 10, 2004, 05:53 PM »
I just don't the word 'birth' inthe title, don't know why, I like 'dawn' better; maybe 'The Empires' Dawn', 'Dawn of the Empire', 'The Hand of Fear', 'Shadows of the Darkside'...
I could go on and on...; makes no difference - only GL knows for sure ;)

yeah I think 'Dawn of the Empire' sounds better than 'birth...'; or something appropriate to the beginning of the empire but I'm not fond of the rumored 'the creeping fear', sounds really lame.
