Other Collectibles / Food Promos
« on: March 22, 2003, 07:52 PM »
Continuing my "Other Collectibles" trend:

Do you collect any Star Wars Food Promos? If so, what? Got any favorites?

I've collected different items since around special edition, and have collecting things such as cards and stickers, to pens, wrappers, boxes and other food related stuff. I went all out with AOTC, and got all of the General Mills and Frito Lay promo items (did anyone else order the promo cd from Frito Lay? Mine never arrived), as well as all of the packaging such as wrappers (including the 17 GoGurt wraps) and cereal boxes. One of my favorite items is the mega sized Clonetrooper Starpic, which was given to me by a Frito Lay distributor. He also gave me some life size standups, as well as a huge POP overhead display! :) I also have sets of TPM Pepsi cans from about 6 countries now, and would love to build a set from every country. Also trying to find the rest of the Gold Yoda cans I need (Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mt Dew and the ultra rare Storm).

The best part about food promos? They're free (generally anyway)!

Other Collectibles / Kotobukiya!
« on: March 22, 2003, 06:07 PM »
First, for those of you not familiar, here is a quick intro:

Kotobukiya makes 1:7 scale vinyl model figure kits, prepainted and snap together. Thusfar, they have released Darth Vader, Anakin, Obi Wan (AOTC) Mace Windu/Yoda, Jango Fett and three Clonetroopers (Infantry, Commander and Captain). They are known for sort of an artistic interpration of the characters and are not necessarily scene specific (although not as "out there" as the Unleashed figures).

FineMolds, another Japanese company as well as an offshoot of the Tamiya company (known for their very precise military models) makes 1:72 scale vehicular models. So far, they have released an XWing, TIE Fighter and Jedi Starfighter, and a Slave 1 is slated to be released, but little information is currently available.

If you're into these, what would you like to see made?

Kotobukiya:
Han Solo
Chewbacca
Slave Leia ;)
Jedi Luke
Palpatine
Maul
Dooku
Ewoks
Jawas

FineMolds:
Millenium Falcon
TIE Bomber, Interceptor, Advanced (AKA Darth's TIE Fighter)
YWing, BWing, AWing
Snowspeeder
ATAT
Republic Gunship
ATTE
Hailfire
Spider Droid

I could go on and on with what I'd like to see made! :)

I found them at Target, and some others were found at another Target in Indianapolis.

I saw some Ephants yesterday as well, in the same kind of assortment. Fellow Hoosier Boba Binks reported he also found some in an Indianapolis Target store. Sounds like people might be getting a second chance at these!

It really seems like there has been a resurgence of interest in "other collectibles" in the past year or so, with the release of items like the Master Replicas line, Dark Horse Mini Busts, Kotobukiya Vinyl kits, food promotions, etc. However, what seems to go unnoticed are all of the items from the neo-classic era for Star Wars (mid-90's - pre-prequels). Ive been going back and looking through Jawa Traders and whatnot, and there were some absolutely fantastic items back then! And the best part is, they are at rock bottom prices if you know where to look.

So, what are some of the neo-classic items that interest you the most? What do you have, and what are you trying to find?

One of my favorite lines is the Riddell Mini Helmet line. Easily my most cherished collectibles from Star Wars. It is a line I wish every day could make a comeback, as it has world of possibilities!

Right now, Im also starting to work on the Legends in 3D bust line. They are really down pricewise, and I've had some good luck so far. So far I've won two on Ebay (Greedo and Cantina Band Member) for $25 and $45 respectively. About twice the size of Dark Horse mini busts, and in the case of Greedo, at half the price! :)

I also want to collect the 70mm film frames. I don't have any yet, and Im trying to hold out for large lots or complete sets, but the prices look really great on Ebay right now (as low as 6-7 bucks)

So what other neo classic items are there out there? What stuff did you love, what did you hate? What are you trying to collect now, or what do you have? Anyone trying to sell Legends busts or film frames? :)

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Your Favorite Figure Line?
« on: March 22, 2003, 10:25 AM »
Within Star Wars:

Favorite line in packaging: Vintage! Still has the most interesting packaging to date, they are pre-equipped with great checklists, have a very true-to-Star Wars design, and now they also pack a lot of nostalgia! :) Not to mention all of the fantastic pictures

Favorite line out of packaging: POTJ! Pretty much for the same reasons above. These are some of the best figures in the Star Wars line, a lot of awesome characters represented, a few really cool EU items, and great sculpting!

Outside of Star Wars:
Palisades "Jim Henson's Muppets". These are fantastic toys, with incredible playsets, lots of fantastic details, and all around fun!

Palisades "Urbanimals" line may put Muppets at a run for their money in terms of favorites though, when they are released

Watto's Junk Yard / TV on DVD
« on: March 20, 2003, 08:05 PM »
It seems that ever since the first season of X-Files came out on DVD a few years ago, TV series on DVD have really taken off.

So, what series do you have on DVD? What would you like to see on DVD?

I have:

X-Files Seasons 1-6
Oz Seasons 1-2
Sopranos Seasons 1-3
Six Feet Under Season 1
The Simpsons Seasons 1-2
Twin Peaks Season 1
Best of the Muppet Show Discs 1-15

In the next few weeks, Futurama and The Family Guy and CSI come out on DVD, which I plan on picking up. I hope to keep up with all of these series, thank God they don't come out often.

What's out, that I'd like to get, but is just too expensive with all of the other shows out right now:
Star Trek The Next Generation All Seasons
Twilight Zone Collections 1-4 (9 discs each)
24 (Ok, thats moreso that I just havent gotten around to it)
Transformers

What isn't out (and/or not even planned) that I want:
Continuations of all of the above shows
Twin Peaks Season 2 (not currently planned) as well as the pilot (also not planned)
Ewoks Cartoon Series
Droids Cartoon Series
Clone Wars Cartoon Series (ok, well the show hasn't even started, but you get the idea ;))

Modern Classifieds / Re: Need some EU Stuff
« on: March 20, 2003, 03:12 PM »
Do you need the AF Snowspeeder or ATAT? Two area WalMarts have about three of each per store.

Yeah, I collect boxed and loose Action Fleet as well, but only Saga. I have a few Galoob MIBs, but Im not going to go that far.

I did managed to find 2 Republic Assault Ships (1 for opening, 1 for boxed), a good box-keeper Republic Gunship and a Slave 1 whose box was in pretty miserable condition. I've heard a lot of concer over the new plastic bubble design, but so far the only damage I've seen was to the cardboard try portion. Im really anxious to get another Republic Gunship to open; it may become my favorite Saga Action Fleet vehicle...
