Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS - #57 and beyond

These even are hitting here.  Distribution doesn't seem as spotty as some of the more recent waves like the repaints and RT Driver wave.

I got Passel, Neimodian, and Grievous Guard tonight...  Bummed I didn't find any Clones but happy I hit a store that at least a Collector was at before me and not someone who cleaned them out totally.

I like the Commander actually, he's cool (I liked the Neimodian Warrior too though), but the other two feel like a bit of a letdown (Passel has NO accessory but that base?  WTF?  At least give us something sorta different for him.).  The guard's still a crappy sculpt too...  I somehow doubt this figure doesn't get a redo too, but one can hope.

Hmmm, I'm down pretty much to only wanting one set of these now.  I'd rather have had #6's given they are one joint shy of super articulation and don't look bad to me...  Their shoulders and hips aren't as nice as the SA Clone's sculpt but the Jetpack Clone's a pretty weak figure in the arms (neither one having much articulation at all).  I'll take wide hips and shoulder joints over underarticulated arms any day.   :-\

I ain't findin' squat out here, but maybe that's further east that gets all the good stuff Anton?

I have to admit I did find SOME figs tonight but no Clones unfortunately.

Check out the front page for the story and image (best I could do folks, sorry).  I think they make for good diversity, but I have to say that explosive diarhea spray looks better than oozing diarhea smeared version.

Together, they make for a completely ruined bathroom.

I can't wait for diaper change variant Sandtrooper!

I'm glad Brent gave my mighty Penguins a LITTLE more credit than some of you guys did.   ::)

I guess having the greatest player in the league, Palfy, LeClaire, Recchi, etc., just doesn't cut it with some of you.   :-*

I was at the game last night here (Pens/Caps) and they beat the piss out of the Capitals...  No big feat, I know, especially given that the Caps had like no recognizeable names on their roster really...  But a 7-1 victory feels good nonetheless, and if the team I watched last night is what we deliver this week (and all season) then I'm sure we'll be higher than 8th in the Eastern conference.  I watched a Pens team that looked like they were the 93 team, and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

BTW I've been hearing some naysayers on Lemieux again...  I had to remind a buddy of mine that in his last season before his injury he was winning the points race, again, and quite handily.  He had a vicious 1-timer in the game last night that was just so spot-on with his timing, and it was a wickedly hard shot.  He doesn't take shots like that unless he's feeling 100% they say so as a die-hard Lemieux fan I'm just giddy as all getout to be going into the season with him seemingly quite healthy.

I'm just slap happy to have hockey back though, it's been too damn long.

Oh, and the Arena wasn't sold out last night but it had a much heftier crowd than usual for pre-season games I noticed.  I was surprised.  They were into it too, and back to old form...  Applauding guys who fought for control of the puck and kept it in the offensize zone for a long time rather than applauding the hits (not much hitting anyway).  I love this town. :)

Make me among that group too Diddly.  I didn't realize it was coming with a "smeared" and "sprayed" variation.  I got a set yesterday at TRU and it is definitely sprayed but my first sets from Ryan are definitely diarhea smears.

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: EE exclusive Clone Trooper 4-packs!
« on: October 3, 2005, 03:19 AM »
I'm still waiting for these "fantastic sellers" to show up in grand photos of huge armies.  Or did the army builder 4-pack get severely limited production so that it actually wasn't good for amy building on yet ANOTHER level beyond its asinine pricing?

Funny, but this set was probably one of the biggest middle fingers that Hasbro and a retailer could've given.  Still stings the way this whole thing was handled if you ask me.

Other Toy Lines / Re: The Official 21st Century Toys Thread
« on: October 3, 2005, 02:29 AM »
OOOOOOOoo baby! :)

So 21st busted out big news that they're partnering with Toys R Us (holy ****!  :o !?) of all people, who dumped 21st and their contract because of special interest pressures, and they're going to produce a 5-pack of figures with vehicles to distribute as a "Merril's Marauders" (sp) set.

The Marrauders were a group that totally F'd with the Japanese behind enemy lines.  Army Rangers, special forces guys...  Very cool.

The set is 5 all-new figures (so it says, though the heads look like Para heads I think) with gear, a 1.5 ton Dodge Truck (Troop Carrier), and a Dodge Command Car with no distinguishing markings so it'll be a cool "hit & fade" vehicle.

Anyway the whole set looks great and I hope it's not terribly expensive.  There's a LOT in there though so it could be pricey.  Still it's nothing they don't already have the toolings for it seems save for maybe the figures.

Way to go 21st on making the figure guys happy and seeing there is potential for the figure line overall really.  World War II offers a buttload of material to make.  I just hope they start diversifying to nationalities like British, Russian, French and Italian troops...  I'd also like new 1st series Germans and U.S. Infantry, as well as various cammo variants on the Germans, some DAK variants on the Germans, some North African U.S. and British troops...

French, or "generic" resistance fighter figures would be cool too.  They could really do a generic line that fit for Poland, France, the Netherlands or elsewhere...  Russians are a must in this line at some point, along with re-releases of the BotB Germans to go with the Russian Troops.

WW2 offers so much diversity that would be popular if marketed right, that I just hope this is a sign of great things to come.  US Spec. Forces from Pacific?  I'd never have guessed.  :)

Some D-Day Rangers are now a must!

The Wookiee Arcade / Re: Which one's the best?
« on: October 3, 2005, 01:24 AM »
I'd put FC as one of my top SW games, but not top games...  FC would make my top 5 SW games though I think, definitely top 10 but that's starting to dwindle in what's great, good, mediocre, and flat out bad...  So I wouldn't say FC dominates my game list even if it was SW specific.  It's just a GOOD game and better than you give it credit for Matt. :)

My list would go like this I guess:

1) X-Wing: Alliance...  While I love X-Wing and TIE Fighter, the appealing qualities of Alliance are the greater detail levels, better overall engine (much better physics), one of the best EU Storylines ever (and sadly one that has yet to be finished due to Lucasarts politics  ::) ), and it encompasses my personal favorite aspect of Star Wars with its space combat simulation.  XW and TIE are great games, they started the series, but XW:A is all the great things the first two games were plus a better gaming engine.  It even still has a VERY active modding/editing community since their options for a new game engine to work with are basically nill.   And given what they can do with the XW:A engine, the game's adaptable to higher performance machiens without really missing a beat.  That's impressive.

2) Jedi Knight...  I've probably logged more hours playing Jedi Knight than any other Star Wars game.  The modding community for this game is as dead as I've ever seen it (a game still comes out from time to time though), but when it was at its height it was amazing.  This was THE game to own for Star Wars too, and I don't think that Outcast or Academy ever improved on the Dark Forces series like Jedi Knight did.  JK was an improvement on First Person gaming though, not just over Dark Forces but the genre overall, and it's still a fun game to bust into.  Some of the custom levels out there for it are just fantastic and only add to Star Wars as well.

3)  X-Wing & TIE Fighter...  A tie for 3rd I'd give to these two games.  XW was the first SW game I really had when I was REALLY getting into Star Wars as a hobby overall.  I loved it so much I played it even before I could afford a joystick and had to use the mouse/keyboard.  Talk about difficult!

TIE Fighter was just mindblowing as an overall improvement, and pitting you as the "bad guy" was a headtrip to say the least.  The story, even moreso than X-Wing, was intricate and just added to the STar Wars universe greatly.  I feel you don't truly know either game unless you read the companion Farlander Papers/Steele Chronicles that accompany the games via their strategy guides.  These were the 2 games that really started it all with me even though I had the SNES trilogy and NES Triloty that I played religiously.

4) Dark Forces...  Around the same time the above were just keeping me glued to my computer I was playing Dark Forces.  It was great to play a game like Doom but set in Star Wars.  The greatest things though were that Dark Forces put us in a great story, the game's engine was superior to Doom in most every respect, and like Jedi Knight it really advanced the first person genre and marked the kind of quality Lucasarts had earned respect for...  Oh how I miss those days.  Dark Forces is a game I still take a tear through now and again, and even though it's long-past its day for graphics, it's still a great story to relive and sparked what I think is the best SW gaming series ultimately.

5)  Now Matt's nemesis Force Commander...  Squeaking in at #5, though I think I could probably have put Bounty Hunter in here too as well as perhaps one or two of the Rogue Squadron games.  Irregardless though FC earned a spot here in my view.  The game's got, again, a compelling storyline which to me is paramount to ANY game but maybe moreso for Star Wars due to it being my favorite "thing".  Beyond that, Force Commander was a new design Real-Time Strategy Game taking one of the first steps to going from 2-D maps with spirtes and simplistic graphics to using a 3-D terrain and 3-D combat units on the field.  The game has an ingenous command point system, probably it's highest point for gameplay, and graphically it was quite nice at the time (few weak points, but that's to be expected and still have the game runnable on machines at that time).  The storyline is just hardcore military action in Star Wars, and it really laid out ground combat as we had never seen done outside of the RPG community.  The game's challenging, frustratingly so for many, but not unbeatable.  There's multiple ways to win almost any level in the game so there's replay value.  The interface is the only place people have much complaint, but it's not something that cannot be learned either.  I actually quit Force Commander for about 6 months after I first got it because I too couldn't control the game.  I then went and played a number of lop-sided skirmishes (lop-sided in my favor) to "learn" the game, and in about a week I was in the thick of the story.  This from someone not as into RTS games at the time either.  I have since beat the game several times through, and each time I've been hung up at various points due to the challenge of the game.  Force Commander's greatest flaw was that it was never watered down for casual gamers, and that meant a not-so-fun experience for many.  Like chess though, you just don't jump into it and master the game, so I give FC much props because it flat out deserves them. :)

Honorable mentions to:

-Bounty Hunter
-Rogue Squadron
-Rogue Squadron: Rebel Strike & Rogue Leader (though they're not equally good...  The 3rd installment was a vast improvement in story and overall quality)
-Knights of the Old Republic (I & II, though I think 1 was better and 2 could've done more to improve)
-SNES Trilogy
-Jedi Academy (Outcast to a lesser extent...  Academy's a nice "fix" to Outcast's shortcomings)

Bounty Hunter's probably one of the MOST underrated SW games ever.  I think a lot of people didn't wanna risk another SW game after some of the recent crap.

I think Star Wars is LONG overdue for lots of games though...  Like the X-Wing: Alliance story should be continued in a sequal to Alliance, built on an all-new engine preferably, since I just know they can do something incredible right now.

Kyle Katarn's story is beat to death post-jedi, but I think a pre-Jedi Knight story would go over great.  A firearm-focused shooter, something that incorporates great puzzles with elements of "stealth".  Screw the lightsaber crap, as it's only served to dumb the series down steadily to the point where you don't even NEED the other weapons.  You should need them though to survive the game.  Hopefully Katarn's series sees an update.

I'd like a Bounty Hunter II myself, focusing around Boba perhaps, and the Jedi Purge/hunt between E3 and E4.

A squad-based combat game, one far superior to the lacking effort of Commando, would be nice.  Something less cartoony, and more of a clone of either Conflict Desert Storm or (preferably) Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon series.  I'd like that myself since their realism's fantastic and that type of gameplay in Star Wars seems ideal for the Spec. Forces units EU has established such as the Imp. Commando's, or Alliance Infiltrators.  Fun Fun Fun!

I would DEFINITELY not put Battlefront high on the list.  That's not to say I disliked the game by any means, and it'd maybe make my top 10, I'm not sure.  I'm not a multi-player fan, and the single-player for Battlefront was lame.  Battlefield 1942 was actually a BETTER game and Battlefront's merely a copy-cat of that gaming engine so how they lost a step in that, I do not know.  I like Battlefront for what it is, but to me it's the type of game that shouldn't cost as much because it just doesn't give you as much as a game with a single-player storyline as its focus and a multi-player gaming feature secondary.

I think BF only is the #1 selling game because if I'm not mistaken KOTOR isn't available anywhere but the PC and X-Box while BF was on PS2 as well as XB and PC, not to mention the PC release of KOTOR was very late coming.  It's still a good enough game, but I think there's MANY SW games that are far superior, much less many other games in general that blow it away.  It's fun to play through and have in the library but loses its luster over time.  Other games like Alliance don't lose that step no matter how old they seem to be.

I wish Lucasarts would live up to its old reputation but it seems like they're just fading away here and there.

Nightmare for me too...  Finally bitched till I got like 2 confirmations and stuff.  Just terrible how I had to fight with them though to get something they MADE me take to be a FC member.

I have found HS to be neat at times, but I'd say the vast majority of the time they don't give you enough worthy stuff.  They need many, MANY more pics in their photoreceptor area, and they need to add better content (stuff like the holo-news feature would be neat if updated routinely on the site).

Full deleted sequences woudl be a major bonus if they were included but stuff like that is just so rare.  Too bad really.  HS seems like a somewhat wasted resource to me.

Other Collectibles / Re: WOTC Star Wars Miniatures
« on: September 30, 2005, 06:11 PM »
The 3.75" AT-AT (Kenner sculpted one) is actually pretty close to the minis scales.  It's been used for years by the West End Games crowd as a reasonable stand-in on the battlefield.

A 3.75"/1:18-ish scaled AT-AT would be like 40" high or so...  roughly.  The WOTC AT-AT is pretty perfectly sized from what I hear, and I've even heard that the detail on it is unbelievable compared to some AT-AT items that are around.  I can't wait to pick up one and I can't even say I'm THAT into the WOTC Minis line.  I know I have to have this though, and I'm desperate for a couple AT-ST's for flanking support too.

I'd like to see the WOTC line expand to a more army-builder friendly line.  At that stage they'll have me pretty well set to quit the WEG scale and go to the WOTC line exclusively for gaming.

I just held his chin up with the tip of my pinky and slipped the helmet on.  No problem for me there so it's cool.  I found that when I turned the head around that it sorta misshapened the helmet making it elongated in the back.   :-\

By the way, I don't necessarilly think that a product not moving quickly will necessitate it not being continued.  The VOTC didn't move fast but I think they're considered a successful "deluxe" line by Hasbro...  at least to an extent.

I still hope these show up in good quantities then...  I really do.  Maybe not to the point where we see 20 Anakin sets sit for a month or two, but where there's steadily product on the shelves that is trickling out the door.  That's always the ideal, and right now I think there's still potential for that with the Evolutions sets (especially Sith and Clone sets).

19094
I want them too but only if they're non-animated new figures, which I'm not too hopeful on.  I just can't get into the animated line since it feels too separate of the basic line.  Not that the non-animated line was spectacular, but I think that if it followed the now complete series in its look (but sculpted realistically) that it would be a nice companion line to the modern line...

The animated line just disappointed me that it was its "own thing" really.  I was really hoping for more non-animated figures out of Clone Wars I guess.

19095
I have for sale a LOT of VOTC Cardbacks/Clamshells that I've got in my posession once again.

I'm asking a reasonable price for them since there's so many.  I really need to get these out of here though since they're really in the way at the moment.

Does anyone here do carded figures and want these?  The bubbles are neatly sliced open to get the figures out.  There are 2 MOMC figures in there as well (Vader and Chewbacca) for $10 each.  I'm asking $20 for all the extra packages then and it's a big box so $9 shipping is what I've figured it out to.

Someone who does carded customizing want some major fuel for your work?  I'm your man!  Send me a PM on this asap.
