Hey Hasbro! / Re: Wedge Antilles
« on: July 23, 2005, 03:16 AM »
Yeah, a distinct High-Five to you from me as well.

I think kit-bashes can be a great way to give us re-hashed product as something "new" and not have the masses complain.

I'd also have dug a Biggs body with the hoth collar, Wedge head w/removable helmet, and the Hoth legs/arms.  Not perfect, but it'd have made Hoth Wedge Antilles which we sorely need (more than this Wedge, but I digress).

Kitbashes rock.

Now what I want is for Hasbro to put the Death Star Trooper head w/helmet onto the Imperial Officer body/arms, and put the POTJ TIE Pilot Pakc-in figure's legs on it, and give us a ROTJ Death Star Trooper/Tech.  Pack in a blaster and the Imperial Tech's scanner box and I'm a happy camper.

Episode 1 / Re: R2-B1 & TC-14
« on: July 23, 2005, 03:02 AM »
THese droids- the tc14 and r2b1 were easy to find. I saw them once at a KMART grand opening in Texas then again in Idaho at another Kmart. When I discovered them in Idaho( in a town of 14,000 people) the case must have been crushed because the cards were all openers-they were seriously curved and dented in bubbles)  :'(
The real trick is....IF you really WANT the figure bad enough-you actually have to have dementia and go to the stores DAILY! when they open or are stocking! If not well, then.....I'm sorry my friend- then your left crying at this website about why you didn't get one.

That's cool you were able to find them easy enough Darth Slothus...  But the fact is that they tended to not ship in very high numbers, so for the majority they were indeed tough finds.  Some people, regardless of how hard they looked or not, didn't see these items.  Myself included and that was when I did hit a variety of stores daily (sometimes twice daily) on my commute.

I got mine from friends instead who did have good luck...  These simply weren't easy finds for most though.  Not to mention they suffered a lot of regional variety.  Like Bobafett14 mentioned, they weren't terribly common in Pittsburgh stores at all, yet once the clearance dumps happened I heard some areas found them a bit more abundantly.

Currently on Ebay I see R2-B1's anywhere from $12 to $18+ carded so I'd say he's at least still something a lot of people are in search of.

"Rare" is an overused term in the modern hobby generally, that is for sure!  However it's also a matter of perspective...  I'd say R2-B1 and TC-14 come probably as close to the term "rare" as most any modern figure has though...  Short of something oddball like the Toy Fair Vader or some such.

Dumb customs are funny...  I like seeing what guys try passing off as great stuff.

I'm not knocking a person's skill either, but that guy's simply trying to make a buck on "junk".  There's no effort there and he's hoping some sap who's a little hard-up for ladies, and gets his boobies from the toy shelf instead of by the handfull, will bid on it...

$30?  Ya gotta be kidding me.

Bad news Jared...  :(  I take your opinion with a lot of weight too, so I'm feeling my own opinion sliding on these even further.

I was hoping the Utapau guy was cool at least...  And Zett maybe looked passable.  I knew Antilles was nothing but a glorified POTF2 figure.  It really sucks that Bail is such a nice figure but you can't have him saving Jedi with his good bodyguard Reymus...  Or at least Reymus will look like **** in the effort.

I agree Jared, these look to be the worst of the C2, and that's not a good sign.  I hope Hasbro isn't ******** out on articulation and stuff.  They did so well with ROTS's opening line...  Things sorta started waning back to the Wookiee/Neimodian figures though.  Antilles just looks like he's meant for another era though.   :-\

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Battle of Carkoon Wave

I was already thinking VOTC w/removable helmet and the Jango head under there...  Scars and all (Boba had to have hit some rough spots in life to get those dents).  I'd dig that bigtime.  Slap an ESB paintjob on that guy and I'm all for it...  It's not in the movies, but knowing what Boba's look is now, I think a removable helmet Boba would rock.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Carded Wedge, finally!
« on: July 22, 2005, 02:20 AM »
Much improved indeed...  Dutch is a pretty decent sculpt, short of some better arm articulation, so that's a much better figure.  I think it's a little tall, but just about anything was an improvement over that asinine POTF2 figure.

I almost thought they'd do the Biggs Body with the separate collar, the POTF2 arms/legs, and the Cinema Scene head for a Snowspeeder Wedge...  Almost thought that would've been the final fig.

I'm not sure the Dutch is a substantial improvement over the 3-pack figure...  They have their own positives and negatives when comparing the two, but this is easily a better figure than what was thought was coming to us.

The Hover Craft w/Cutter was one of my favs too Scott.  I got it for my birthday the year it came out...  It was that "big gift", ya know?  Loved that thing...  My first dog, Shena, chewed up Cutter too which irked me but it was all she ever chewed.

I loved that ship though.  It floated ok...  Had that cool little sled and the pointless mini-bike.  I always had Cutter and Shipwreck man it while the Joes debarked for combat from it...

GIJ is one of those thigns I"m really borderline considering getting into.  If my ship came in, I'd be all over RAH collecting and customizing in that genre.

N/P on that...  I dig both lines, and Dragon has been known to put out a 1:18 item or two as well, however they're REALLY pre-posed figures.  Articulation's minimal.

The 21st figures are my favorites, however their first series figs sorta blow, and BBI's new articulation could outclass 21st completely.

21st and BBI both do great headsculpts though...  BBI's got a lot more variety though and generally have only done neutral sculpts (Not the Sherman tanker though).  Good stuff all around.

Definitely smaller than others, yet in the movie it looks small when you see the helmet and really compare...  I'm chalking it up to just variety among the species, since they really do differ between each other.

Other Toy Lines / Re: The Official 21st Century Toys Thread

BBI is exclusive to TRU.  21st Century was, but issues over "Nazi" product as some PC groups claimed caused TRU to tell 21st Century NOT to make any more German product.  In essence nixing 50% of what 21st was able to make, simply because people don't understand history or choose to label anyone a Nazi.

The 21st deal fizzled and BBI was picked up.  They've done mostly modern U.S. items, but they did do a Sherman and Mustang here recently too.  BBI's supposedly going to jump into WW2 stuff more (seen infantry, they have paratroopers on tap with working chutes too).  There's also a "Futuristic Sci Fi Military" line that BBI's got in concept phases and stuff.

21st Century Toys has a deal going with Wal-Mart right now, and while many people are finding 21st Century stuff in droves at their local Wal-Marts, I can't say I'm one of them.  I have seen lots of planes over the years, and at times I've seen tanks now and again.  They actually cast a lot of the tanks in die-cast metals as well, which means you get one huge-ass, and real heavy piece of toy for $40 (or less).

Figures are shipping now though I hear...  Marines in cammoflauge paintjobs (their solid green counterparts were released not long ago) and Japanese Infantry which just started shipping this month.

Also tanks, their 1.5 ton truck, etc...

Online, Bad Cat Aviation, Small Blue Planet, and other stores carry 21st stuff.  Some cheap, some not-so-cheap.  Depends.  Most carry BBI too.

BBI just hasn't put out new figures in a while, so they haven't restocked.  Most did restock withs ome repaints of the modern marine figures, or army...  Or they've restocked with the chopper pilots...  If they've only got 3 or 4 different figures, they've sold through a lotta stuff.

Hey, Star Wars painted stock cars...  Guess this wasn't too far off.

I'm still not a fan though...  It's very MUCH like the 70's vans, actually, which I'm also not a fan of.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Captain Antilles... He Sorta Sucks
« on: July 21, 2005, 03:17 AM »
Well, from the Insider Article, it seems Lucas actually intended for the captain to be a relation to Wedge Antilles, and still be the SAME guy...  The call was for someone who "looked like Denis Lawson", and so McGregor asked Lawson who turned down the role.

If I'm understanding this all correctly, that is.

But, a guy was chosen who looked different then (Nichols or whatever his name is).

While I agree, to an extent, there was maybe intent for them to be the same guy at one point, to me the two actors both look in their 30's.  You can clearly see the ANH actor so it's not like his helmet's covering his face.  There's a number of close-ups of him and he isn't in his 40's or even 50's, much less older...  So to that end I think intent goes out the window to the films evidence...  I can't see explaining how a 30-something dark-haired (black hair?) guy can be a 30-something light brown haired guy after 20 years...

Not to mention, he's still a captain after 20 years.  Ouch. :)

And not to mention they don't remotely resemble each other...  I can't be certain on eye-color but I thought ANH had light eyes and ROTS dark...  I gotta check these little things out (wish I had a DVD-ROM for captures) because this will bug me to no end...

It's like the Tantive IV between the two films...  Nicklab mentioned it wasn't ever referred to as the Tantive IV in ROTS, just the Tantive I believe...  References are already citing them as the "same" ship, however they both are structurally COMPLETELY different as the ROTS CGI model used ****** pictures of the ANH model that omit a mid-portion of the ship due to perspectives being wonky.  I'm certain of Lucas's intent, but in the end they're 2 different ships to me because they aren't the same ship physically on-screen (and I'm not a fan of "additions" being made to the ship to give it substantial length between the two films  Just not a fan, nor find it as plausible as them simply being different ships).

I agree though it's nothing major...  We just disagree.  If I find anything I'll add something.  May move this side-debate over to the films section or something.
