Revenge of the Sith / Re: Clone #6 vs Clone #41
« on: April 29, 2005, 02:33 AM »
Yeah Scott, I won't disagree.  Owning a single (****  >:( ) SA Clone from Clone Wars, and comparing it with the #6 Clone, I'm pretty impressed with the #6 Clone overall.

The torso articulation sucks that its missing for a rather silly action feature, but otherwise it's a  highly poseable figure.  I'm all about some "dirt" painted on, given that these guys aren't seemingly fresh recruits.  I know I don't want green grunts in my army anyway...  I'd rather have vets!  :)

The #6 is still a damn fine figure.  It's tough to find now at this point though.  It's the year of the Clone folks.  No doubt about it that they are the hot figure to buy.

I have only ONE WM left wiht Clones (TRU's still have them, but at a higher price), and the WM I have is a hick one with hardly any traffic.  May pick a few of them up though.  That and the Preview Wookiee have disappeared, and that sucks for the army builders out there who were trying to pace themselves.   :-\  God knows I can't buy 30 figures at once! :(

Revenge of the Sith / Re: battle droids = terrible
« on: April 29, 2005, 02:29 AM »
I have got to agree...  CHEWIE, I know you like them it seems, but in my area they're pegwarmers bigtime (SBD's and BD's), and they are the same piss-poor quality that the Saga figures were as well.

I liked the Saga SBD, actually (give it wrist articulation and it's perfect, mine all stand fine), however, the basic BD's have sucked since the Saga line and ROTS is no different.  The paintjob's are great but the figures collapse all too easily under their own weight, even on stands.  Hasbro did battledroids some justice in E1, and with the POTJ Security BD, but they've tanked damn near every one of them since the Boomer Damage droid.  :(  If they'd only improve the plastic they'd have a good figure.  I hate to army build with it actually, otherwise I'd nab a droid with every Clone probably.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Tonnika Sisters coming?

I still look at Lucasfilm as a financial juggernaught though.  If they think it'll sell (risque or otherwise), they'll push it).  Again, Ay Vida has, for all intents and purposes, a string bikini-ish thing on...  Even sculpted nipples, or some kind of point to her chesticle region...  She's not hurting for aesthetic appeal as far as sculpt goes.

I think the obscure "star whores" reference was never really a thought then...  If Ay can pass through the cracks of Hasbro and Lucasfilm, then the Tonika sisters could've as well I believe.  That's just my take on it though...  I'm sure someone at Hasbro and LFL Licensing are both aware of the impromptu namesake given those 2, but I agree with Matt that it's a "fanboy" factoid only, not really so much a factor in the figure's decision-making process.  I think that's been just a silly licensing issue, as has always been claimed.

Hopefully it's hashed out and the figure(s) are finalized.  They, behind Hem Dazon, are among the tops in the Cantina requests at this point.  Be nice if they were made finally.

I don't know...  The "Star Whores" nickname's not widely known outside of the geekiest circles of collectors.  Not that Hasbro doesn't know the nickname, that's anyone's guess, but it's really one of those out there things, so I see JesseVader's point that it likely was a non-issue to the debate.

They made Ay Vida afterall, who is physically more racey than the twins were with their goofy hair-dos and all that...  Ay actually has what appears to be a little butt-floss going on even, yikes!

I tend to agree then that a nickname given by people on-set to the two characters from a '77 film, and rarely spoken of outside the most anal of circles since then, ever really was a REASON they'd not make the figures.  Who knows though, anything is possible, it just strikes me as more unlikely as well.

Exactly Josh...

It's just odd, I guess, to see all these people that think they're somehow getting one over on everyone who WENT to C3, yet they're obviously reading C3 threads...  Why read a thread about a con you didn't attend and claim you didn't want to, ya know?

I didn't go to SDCC so I rarely read anything about it unless it's "news" about the line...  Otherwise I have nothing to say.  I'd even go so far as to say I'd like to do that too, but I know that's not in the cards being on the East Coast and all.

I just found this influx of people who seem bitter about C3 to be odd...  I didn't like the lines, I won't lie, who wouldn't like to walk right into everything, ya know?  But I don't feel cheated out of all the dough I spent either.  I mean, for every bad thing, there had to have been 10 great things about C3...  At least.  The whole "I didn't have to wait in line and spend money, so haha" mentality escapes me.  People are so damn weird in this hobby sometimes...  I swear, I'm amazed every week something someone says/does. :)

I'd break down and buy a lot of the vehicles at that price...

The Tri-Fighter I'd buy at full price if I could find the damn thing even. :(

Obi/Ani fighters I'd break if they were a few bucks off...  Same with things like Greivous' wheel bike.

I'd even consider some Deluxe at that price that I haven't nabbed yet.  The Deluxe line, like every other movie year, seems sorta lame to me.  Ultra really did the line justice I think.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: More Target Exclusives?
« on: April 28, 2005, 04:14 PM »
If you get denied, don't give up guys.  I got denied TWICE by two separate employees at the one Target, and on the way out stopped at Customer Service who were happy to help...

Try in the back area, then try an employee on the way out, and if you fail twice, try customer service.  You have nothing to lose on this, they're not gonna ban you from the store.  It's their job.

The item's in the computers, it's got a price (save receipts, as price could change May 5), and it's not marked as a "May 5th Only" kind of item (some ******bag I ran into tried that, but I countered him and he backed off that argument).

Make up excuses too, or use one you maybe have legitimately.  I called, and told them I was TOLD they were in stock and was TOLD to come down and get one off an employee as I have a long drive...  That was true 100% at one store, at the other store the employee lazily told me they didn't have any (when I got there, they did).  I did have to drive an hour to get to either store though, so that's partly true even at the 2nd store.

It implies you're not gonna be happy if you're told to hike on this one, and not gonna be coming back to their store...  I even went so far as to say, "I figured I'd do some shopping while I was here too, but I'll go to the WM close to home if I can't get anything..." kinda line.

This is one of those crappy things that's gonna take legwork if you want it.

BTW, the price blows and it is an incredible kick to collectors.  Fortunately competition keeps Target in line with pricing, but with an exclusive they know they have an upperhand.  Price blows any way you slice it though, no argument there.  It did on the Vader, Holo Yoda, and EB Kits as well if you ask me...  and C3 Vader.

I wouldn't have known where Dave was anyway.  I saw him like twice.   :-\  I swear, if there was one thing that bummed me more than not seeing Lucas (my only real regret about the con), it was not seeing people more...  I didn't get to hang with my FFURG bro's because me and my gf were both feeling a nasty headache Saturday evening, and then I only saw the JD guys really that one evening for a short time (Friday) after I was out at dinner...  That and Hooters Wednesday but that was brief too.

I'd have liked to see my friends even more.  Everything was too fast, and if I'm at a C4 I'm vowing to be better organized as far as how I coordinate time with friends and all that.  I'm just hoping I can afford the assumed C4. :)

I'd say that sounds about right.  Checking locally, those are about the numbers I've been hearing at Targets in the area with a few of the higher-volume stores getting slightly more perhaps.

That'd put it at about Lava Vader quantities...  Not surprising.  Target doesn't consider that demand on this may be higher.  That's not even a factor to them.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Crab Droid
« on: April 28, 2005, 12:26 AM »
I thought the crab looked good...  Bust out the crackers, drawn butter, and a bib because the Republic's gonna eats some crab!

The figure turned out sorta ok...  not wild about its firing cannon feature (that's terrible on any figure at this point), but the figure itself was cool looking.  Still wish they'd made a cooler cannon on the Spider droid but as it stands it's "ok".  It's just not a great figure like it could've been.

Crab looks better at this point...

Celebration III: Indianapolis / Re: Star Wars Celebration 3
« on: April 27, 2005, 11:56 PM »
Have yinz guys noticed something about a handful (really only a small number but I've seen it some here and there now, but not here at JD.com) of folks who seem to feel some odd need to gloat that they DIDN'T go to Celebration 3?  Like they're in the C3 threads or conversations at various places and they just want to point out how they're glad they didn't do the con.

Now, stick with me on this if you can...  You've maybe not ALL seen this or heard it, but I'm curious about this issue I've seen come up that I don't recall for C1 and C2...

I've seen a couple people touch on this subject, and their swelling pride at not having gone to Celebration 3...  Often citing "Well if I wanted to spend tons of $ to wait in line then I'd have had fun then I'd have gone, but that's dumb..." or whatever other petty argument can be made.

I'm not saying that if you didn't want to go, you didn't want to go.  Cons aren't for everyone, but the whole thing seemed like fun to me even if it was pricey and there were lines.  My hotel room came to just under $700, but it was worth it to me...  I had a nice $120 dinner for two one night, some other good dining other nights, I had a lot of friendly meetings (in line and out roaming the halls), and I got to do the majority of what I wanted to.  Really my Friday at C3 was so great that I think it was worth the price I paid alone!  ;D  And I burned a lotta cash at this thing, haha!

But I'm confused why people feel this NEED to let it be known that they "are proud they didn't go" to the con...  That it's a waste of money and such.  It's as if they're really bitter about not being ABLE to go rather than having CHOSEN not to go, know what I mean?

Maybe I'm reading into these people's posts, but to me I don't understand why they'd be participating in Celebration 3 topics/discussions to only gloat that they didn't spend the $ that other people did to even go to it.  They weren't there.  To me, the only reason NOT to want to go to C3 is if you don't have that many friends in the hobby to encourage your participation in the event...  If you're there alone that'd be a bit more boring...  I was roaming by myself a lot and it was always better with a friend when waiting in line, and so I looked for buds or made new friends with other people in line then.

Myself, I know I met guys from where I work (both sites) while I was there, I got to make some nice contact with people and groups at the con that I wanted to meet, I got to peruse the halls a lot and saw everything I wanted to (save for Lucas, since I figured it wasn't worth the effort) while still having a blast every day.  Hell I was even wore out to the point I was sick one day and still had fun.

To me there's very little way that couldn't have been fun, even if there were some negatives...  Long lines suck, but when you get to see LFL models/props in person I think it's worth it.  The C3 Store was not run too well, but it was still nice to get some cool stuff from it...  I saw a lotta great friends, great items/exhibits and stuff, and in general I had a fantastic time.  $$$ well spent with lines and everything.

I didn't make C1 and C2, and I'd never sit here and say I DIDN'T want to be there, ever.  I was bummed each time that I had bigger fish to fry at home.  I still wanted to go though, even with the costs and negatives of lines and such.  To me this whole "Yeah, well you were a bit foolish to spend your $$$ to wait in line" stuff is just sour grapes, and sad to see out of assumed Star Wars fans.  Whatcha gonna do though, ya know?   :-\  I dunno, just something I was thinking about recently because it popped up again when I was at class today...  very odd.

But who would've actually, honestly, ever thought that a "solidarity" movement of telling the retailers "F off" by not buying would EVER happen?

Are army builders at fault...  Partly.  But so are people who need one of every one, or whatever...  It's nothing that Paul or any of us can stop by simply saying "I'm not gonna buy that".  It'd take the vast majority of people in this hobby agreeing.

I haven't seen 20 people agree, much less 2000, or 20,000, or whatever.  :)  I guess my point is, it's unrealistic to point fingers and say "this is your fault", because in reality it's everyone's fault in this hobby.

I am not wild about the price, but then again this isn't something I'm gonna get a huge army of (I'll be lucky to get a couple).  Even if this figure were available in DROVES I wouldn't buy 30 of them or whatever, I'd buy as many as I felt was financially "good" for me.  If I'm lucky I'll be able to do that now actually.

The cost of both the Clone at Target and the 4-pack sucks...  I could buy more of the 4-pack if I actually wanted but I'm voicing my opinion by NOT doing so.  Sure I bought some, (same with the Stormtrooper, who I'd buy more just because I like the classics more, but also I got many for cheap or trade), and I'll buy some of this Target Clone, but I'm not buying 100...  Not to mention the Clones at EE are actually selling for $6-ish if you got cases.  EE's the one gouging on the $8 - $10 price by breaking up cases, either because they think they'll get stuck with the colored sets or they're just thinking it's a good way to make more by capitalizing on army builders...  My EE Clones were ALL $6.25 if I recall.  I just won't buy those individual sets.

The Target Clone sucks...  But if I don't buy them, I guarantee people aren't gonna line up behind me and say "Yeah, JJ said let's stop this insanity!"  :)  This hobby's very often an "every man for himself" thing, and retail knows that.

That'd be great...  I hope these later #'s are hitting more abundantly spuffy, I haven't seen them yet save for Greivous and the Clone Pilot I found yesterday.  Just sitting there alone staring at me at Target...  Weird.

I find lots of ones sitting around all throughout the modern line.  Saw one Assajj, one SA Clone, one VOTC 3PO, one Blonde Saga Officer...
