Revenge of the Sith / Re: AT-RT - the walker army-builder
« on: March 22, 2005, 05:23 PM »
EU, I'm going to make a bet, will say that the green "camo" is something Clones do to themselves more than the Republic issues.  Like the colors by unit designation now, the Clones will also take a hint and green up in a forest environment if it's to their benefit...

The reason then they won't in the Empire is individualism is frowned upon.  All uniform, all alike...  Little to show rank, and even then when it is worn it's minimal.

That's what I'm assuming the change is, and I'd wager EU goes that route too, but we'll see.  The Clones show budding individualism, and the Empire squashes it in its troops (recruits or otherwise).

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: New Death Star Trooper ?

I wouldn't argue with that.

From AT-AT Driver to Ewok I'd cover everything imagineable in the classic trilogy.

Toy Reviews / New JD Review: Lobot
« on: March 21, 2005, 08:53 PM »
And yet another new review...  Big "ups" to Jeff for posting these in rapid succession!

So how do you like your Cyborgs served?  Side of fries perhaps?  With 4 lightsabers and an action feature?  Or just in black bionic suits with one mean-ass red saber?

Myself, I'm a fan of Lobot...  Dull?  Perhaps.  But you can't deny that he holds a weird place in the Bespin line-up as actually being a man of action, even though he did very little.

Hasbro's first Lobot was hardly anything special, though it was sharply sculpted.  His disco pose just killed him though as a figure, and Hasbro OWED us a better, neutral Lobot...  They delivered, thankfully.

Click Right Here and read the full review, and let us know what your opinions on Lobot are.

Myself, I'm pretty happy.  Lots of good sculpting, lots of good deco (for what he is), and while he only has 2 accessories, they're both very cool and creative ones from Hasbro.  Kudos to them for thinking outside the box a little bit with accessories, on a figure who really doesn't have much to include as far as accessories go.

Read on, and enjoy.  He was one of my more favored OTC purchases I think.

TV-9D9 / Re: CLONE WARS Cartoon... Reactions
« on: March 21, 2005, 08:31 PM »
The stuff on the gunship's just noseart like in World War 2...  Or even today, Warthog "Tank-killers" often have the shark motif.  Dunno what the beast was on the Gunship but I liked it.

The episode was fantastic...  Great Clones, especially ARCs, making Greivous do a little work...  I liked the new weapons in a "Mini-Gun", and a "Pom-pom-Gun".  Some heavy weapons are much needed for SW grunts.  Many customizing ideas just popped in my mind, haha.

I thought the Anakin/Padme development was ok...  Showed the tension, wasn't overdone...  Nice seeing 3PO get his gold plating and there was humor there too with his showing it off.

The Knighting was ok...  A little too earthy I thought, but whatever.  Plus, how do you knight anything that doesn't grow hair and stuff?  See, the whole ceremony applies only to humans really...  Just seems odd, but then again I'm not a huge fan of the braids and stuff from the films.

Overall, great episode...  To me this series shines with the combat and stuff.  I liked it from start to finish, but the highlight is the beginning of the episode with the ARC rescue...  I liked the bombs they leave in a trail to the wreckage too, to blow on the way out and clear their path of escape.  Very clever...

The voices of some of the Jedi bugged me, but I'll live.  Namely really Kit Fisto who needed something more alien I thought, but no big deal there.

Great episode and I'm already stoked for tomorrow.  I wish these were a full half hour though.  They easily could fill that much time per episode actually.

That's ok about the multiple posts mutantpoo, I took care of them since I was up when you posted....

Yeah that's one of the rumor lists floating around over on that site...  It has about as much validity as most others, so he may come or may not...  Things change at Hasbro routinely, and they're not the only ones to say a DST is maybe coming, but till Hasbro says so they're just another rumor in the pipelines.

Hopefully this summer we'll see what the end of 2005 may hold, and if it's got any Classic Trilogy figures mixed in or not.  I'm not sure I wanted a new AT-AT Driver particularly, but the DST is one of the top army builders I'd like seeing as a super articulated figure with removeable helmet, working holster,  and the color variant I mentioned.

I'd take one in a heartbeat...

Hell, even if his articulation/pose was just as nice as the Cantina Wave's...  That'd be rockin' to me.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: RotS - Deluxe Figures
« on: March 21, 2005, 05:31 PM »
Wow...  I mean, just wow.

Vader's a neat gimmick, the Clone Specialist looks like an SA Clone with great accessories, the Vulture Droid is EASILY a must-have in multiples, and I'll take Yoda with Cancel since it's a neat looking item.

That Clone though...  I gotta have a sqad of those guys.  Gonna cost me, but they're must-haves.

I got mine Saturday Mosnab.  They took FOREVER with this issue.  I got my last one before anyone on the net had even reported them shipping at any site I visit, and this time I'm one of the last...  It's weird.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Do You Have Pets?
« on: March 21, 2005, 05:26 PM »
Our pet family grew as well...  A new cat who doesn't have a tail, which is
a bit of an enigma since it wasn't severed, she just was born without one
but she's not a manx so it's weird.

I call her little cat, just because she's little and I wasn't afforded the opportunity
to name her a cool Star Wars name...  Her official name is Bobcat though.

Pictures possibly at some point...   :-\

Thanks Mr.PL, I appreciate that...  Fodder is fodder I figure.  I'll maybe buy one just to have the pieces for droid parts and things...

The Endoskeleton is one of the best bases to doing a Dark Forces darktrooper: Phase 1, so the head alone there would be a great start.

Appreciate the link, I may take a look at Suncoast for one of those.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: New Death Star Trooper ???
« on: March 21, 2005, 03:25 AM »
Since Saga seems dead and over with, I'm gonna lock this thread down since you've got one going in the Original Trilogy Collection forum too...  It's the last line prior to ROTS so I'd go with that unless one of the other staff feels otherwise.

There's a ton of rumors...  Some just tend to be more substantial than others, but none are able to be confirmed 100% as coming till Hasbro says so...  To use the disclaimer phrase that folks like to use. :)

I think a new Death Star Trooper's as good a choice as many other figures.  He's an army builder, his previous figure isn't the swiftest, and he's one that could even stand variants (I'd dig a grey uniform variant alongside the black one).  I'd take a new one easily...  He's shown up on a couple rumor lists so far, so I'd think he's maybe gonna make an appearance once ROTS's hype dies off.

I think Hasbro make take a sweet taste away with army builders being a big part of ROTS's line, and them doing well in some previous lines to the ROTS one, so we can hope.  Nothing, of course, is in from Hasbro on this though.  Too bad...  Even with ROTS fresh on my mind, of course, I'd still dig knowing some cool classic stuff was on the way at the tail-end of this year.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Official Movie Thread
« on: March 20, 2005, 03:09 AM »
I caught Robots on Friday...  I found it to be quite good, but not the best in this sort of 3-D film genre that appeals to adults and kids alike (Clumping things like Shrek, Ice Age, and Toy Story together regardless of who makes them).

It's got little SW quirks...  Though not many.  It's ok though, and had me laughing.  It kept my gf's 2 sons and their 2 friends entertained as well, probably moreso than myself, but the film wasn't bad it just didn't have as many adult jokes as other films like this have in the past.  Felt it was much more slanted to the kids than the big kids.

My highlight was the E3 trailer...  Whoa mama!

But, anyway, I came away with another gripe to add to Jared's ones up there...

3) You should be allowed to punch parents that ENCOURAGE their kid(s) to talk.  Some woman beside me did just that with 2 children ENTIRELY too young to take to the theatre (one required sitting on this woman's lap through the film).  At a toon I expect a certain level of chatter, but this woman literally held conversations about the film with her kids (or grandkids, she looked too old to have kids that young) throughout the film, start to finish.

And worst of all, in the SW trailer too.   >:(

Can't fault the kids here...  But if I could've bitch slapped the parental unit and gotten away with it..  well that thought crossed my mind more than once.

Toy Reviews / JD.com Review: Bespin Leia
« on: March 19, 2005, 04:15 AM »
Thanks to some serious ass-busting, my reviews are going up at lightning quick speed, so here we go with another one that's been lying around in the archives, Bespin Leia.

Not the best figure in the world, and one I think Hasbro could've tried to wow us a little more on, but it also serves a certain purpose to put this figure out and be done with her...  My review's a little critical but that's because I felt so GROSSLY underwhelmed by her.  A truly bland chunk of plastic that, if they aren't gonna try at making her interesting, then I hope they never retread this territory again then.

Click HERE to read the review, and of course everyone's welcome to chime in here if they'd like or do up your own review (not necessarilly in this thread either, do whatever) and opinions...

Myself, I've spent $5 better in my life, but thems the breaks.  Like I said, she serves a purpose and replaces a rather unattractive Leia that was in her place.

ATTENTION

Just so you guys know, in my review I listed her as having THREE points of articulation when in reality she has 5.  I completely overlooked the rather useless cuts she has in the middle of her arms.

A half-assed wrist articulation?  I don't know what their deal is, but I did short-change her on that, so just for the record I'm aware of that.  She still has pathetically limited articulation...  5 points was standard 10 years ago.  Too bad Hasbro decided to jump back into the 90's.  Wonder if they can pick me up some flannel and change my grades from my Junionr year in high school while they're there?  ::)

Hmmm, further investigating and all the Series 2 are in the 4 to 4.5" range...  Including a captive human.  Interesting.
