Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The MCU post Endgame.

The Daredevil series is the best of them.  I still don't know if this makes any of the Netflix stuff canon or if that was another dimension and we just also have a Daredevil in the MCU now.

Vintage Kenner / Vintage Printing and Licensing

I have seen a few posts recently for books about vintage Star Wars figures with various content and photos.  Does anyone know if these prints require permission or licensing from Hasbro and/or Disney?  If I made a book or a poster or whatever with photos from my own collection, is that subject to any kind of ownership beyond my own?  I'm guessing that use of the Star Wars logo would be copyright infringement, though I see it sometimes on custom figure/packaging designs.  Just wonder what is or is not fair game, especially if you were going to print and sell something.

I'm in for two of these sets.  I love me some Shoretroopers.

It's been insane.  I found the whole IG-11 wave, and have bought pairs of Jawas 2 or 3 different times.  I don't know how to handle it.

Oh yeah sure you did.  Probably out shopping with Santa and the Easter Bunny, right?

Some updated info from Jayson:

"Target – Mandalorian Warrior
Walmart – Scout Trooper
Best Buy – Protocol Droid
Amazon – Wookiee
GameStop – First Order Stormtrooper

The first three I’m pretty certain of but the last two may flip flop, be assigned to different retailers or some retailer may get more than one. Whatever the case, they should run about $27 each – no official word on a release date."

Thanks Jeff.  Guess I won't be getting the Scout Trooper then since Walmart figures are still impossible to find.

Is it just me or does the Wookie look like the Bumble???

Pretty sure he was designed to look like Bumble.

I passed on all these last year, but I'd probably get the Fett and the Scout Trooper if I can get them for a deal.

I stumbled across a TBS Bodhi Rook at my local GameStop store today. With my monthly rewards it was $19 and change.  Better than the price from Amazon.

Nice score!  That's what I'm hoping for as well.  Lately everything seems to be showing up in stores eventually, so rolling the dice to get my monthly rewards...

In Chicago we have these half-sized Targets that are more like a huge Walgreens... they only have half of an aisle for toys, but it's the only place in walking distance to my house that carries the stuff.  I pop in from time to time and maybe four times total I’ve seen figures.  They had the whole wave there today at lunch.  I bought them all and canceled my Amazon order.  I can't remember the last time I found a whole wave of stuff in stores before it shipped to me.

You bought figures in a retail store!?  What???  Did you also stop at Kay Bee Toys and listen to Pearl Jam on the way?

The Vintage Collection / Re: Target 2021 TVC Droids Carded Figures
« on: December 13, 2021, 08:58 AM »
My TVC Droids Threepio arrived in a nice big box, but with a totally mangled card. It looks like the card has a new accordion action feature. I guess he is the opener.

Mine came in a huge box as well - it could have easily fit the original case of these figures along with padding if they wanted to.  It's in great shape, so not complaining, but feels like they could figure out a better solution to keep the cards safe.  I wonder if Target is moving to a standard size box for all shipments?  My wife ordered a few things from Nordstrom and they all arrived in the same box configuration despite very different sized items inside.

Is that the "Cannot See"-Threepio variant?

Ha, I guess we know what the P.O. stands for now...

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?

I used to feel that way until I moved to Chicago.  There aren’t many stores near me that carry the st us d. We have a few Targets, but the nearest Walmart is a 45 to 60 minute round trip and I barely drive living here.  I know I’m an outlier, but buying them in stores is a colossal pain in the ass and is extremely time consuming, which makes striking out even more painful.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.   ;)  It's not really like retail stores are an option anyway, so you're doing it right.  I still hit stores on occasion as I'm fortunate enough to live and work near multiple Target and Walmarts, but there's never anything there.  At best I'll find something that's been out a while that I've already pre-ordered.  Or think I've pre-ordered.  Wait, did I pre-order that...

I’m old enough that I greatly prefer preordering to chasing. That said, it works for me because I work at a computer, from home for almost two years, and I stay on top of preorder times with the help of guys like Jeff and Jayson.

I get the convenience, but man do I miss buying new product in stores.  That thrill of walking into the toy aisle and feeling the product in your hands before buying meant a lot to me.  I have a a harder time keeping track of everything online - what I've ordered, what's coming and when and how much it cost.  That's partly on me for not having a better tracking system, but some of these preorders are so far out that I forget what I already have coming.  Then when you do find it online you only have minutes to order before it sells out.  I'll confess to having ordered doubles of some things that I didn't realize I already ordered months prior.  I also really hate that most online stuff sells out so fast.  I'm still at work in person most days and in meetings, so don't have time to reload twitter or FB or Yakface every 15 minutes.  Yakface is actually blocked on my work PC.  Do you guys get some kind of alert email or text when something new gets posted?  I'm fortunate to have friends that will text me when new stuff comes out, but even there I'm not always able to get in fast enough for the preorder.  It should be the opposite, but collecting from the comfort of my home feels a lot more stressful than the days of driving around on store runs.

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 2021 HasLab Black Series Rancor
« on: December 10, 2021, 01:12 AM »
Any theories on why the Rancor had a 50% increase despite seemingly being further along than the Crest?  I would assume similar or better profit margins given all the extras the Crest comes with in comparison.
 ???

What was the theory on Facebook?

I'm assuming the development costs were higher for the Rancor and that they needed a bigger investment to get their return.  It would be sad if they just got greedy and created a higher threshold just to drive higher profits.  They could have created more momentum and FOMO if the threshold was lower (and it had better unlocks to drive it higher).

I wonder how much can be attributed to shipping cost.  The shipping cost is/was factored into the pricing since it has "free" shipping.  I have heard that the shipping for Razor Crest is coming in WAY higher than they originally projected/charged because they have had to air freight some into the US and then others have been rerouted from Long Beach, CA to Savannah, GA port of entry to get them off the boats.  I wonder if that played a role?

It's a fair point and I do think shipping costs have probably increased significantly with the backlog of distribution in the U.S. right now.  That said, the Crest is probably shipping out at an all time shipping high, while there's reason to assume shipping costs would come back down by the time the Rancor would ship.  I think the Rancor also has a smaller profile and could fit in a smaller box.  Were they trying to get more money out of it to offset higher shipping costs on the Crest?  Maybe, but then that's added reason to keep the minimum low and at least get some profit out of this versus nothing.  It also looked to me like the Rancor was much further along in its development versus the Crest, but I don't know how much of the cost goes into design/overhead if any.

I didn't see any theories on FB - someone just pointed out the 50% increase in backers and thought it was odd.  People were already shocked at the Rancor's $350 price point (myself included), so requiring an added 3,000 backers over the Crest to get it made feels like they were just being greedy.  There's probably some other rationale, but I haven't come up with a good one yet.  If you can make the Crest happen at $2.1 MM, I'm bewildered as to why you can't make the Rancor for less than $3.15 MM.  Maybe they were planning to ship each box individually with a private jet.
