Site Feedback, Suggestions, and Help / Re: Front Page News
« on: January 3, 2009, 09:21 PM »
Wow, you're awfully gabby for a guy who doesn't care about what I think.   ;)

In all seriousness, I appreciate the responses.  I guess I didn't realize that the "mission statement" of the site was to just use it as a communication tool for those already signed up and that the staff was planning to just let it die out.  I certainly felt like that was happening, but didn't know that was the intent.

I've very much enjoyed the site and am sorry to hear that no one's interested in revitalizing it.  I've met Jeff once or twice and am vaugly aware of how much time and effort he's been putting into the site over the years.  Its frankly impossible to be a regular visitor and not have noticed the very day he decided to hang up his cleats - it just hasn't been the same since.

Anyway, I respect the decision of the staff - it's just a very foreign concept to me.  I personally have a very hard time letting go of things that I've invested a lot of time and energy in, so I feel like if I was vested in the creation of something like this I'd be checking into some different options to keep it alive.   Not saying that's right or wrong for you and your buddies - that's just my perspective and the rationale for my comments earlier.

Anyway, thanks for the good memories.  Who knows - maybe someone will come along one day and incorporate the best of what was JD into a brand new SW collecting site?

Basically I'm just saying don't count on us bringing anyone new on, and don't count on the front page changing.  There just isn't anyone with the heart to do it anymore.  I love collecting, but I don't love the thought of doing what Jeff did before his departure, as that's just a chore to me.  :-\  Sorry guys!

I have to say I think this is pretty weak response.  You're basically saying that no one on staff wants to do it, but you're not willing to bring in anyone new who might be willing to help you out.    ???  I'm not aware of too many successful organizations who's motto is "we know there's a problem, we understand your idea for improvements, but we're not going to do jack about it."

The front page is a pretty key element to any site.  I'm not really sure how the site is maintained financially, but if your sponsors are on the main page and people are bypassing to go right to the forums, that doesn't seem like a very wise strategy.  You can also say that you're "focusing" more on the forums, but I think that probably means you're just spending your time blogging like the rest of us.  That will only last for so long before the majority of folks start migrating to more "active" sites.  I personally have started hitting up other sites more often and I know others here who have done the same.

I'm no expert on running websites, but it seems pretty silly to me that you have an able group of supporters who might be interested in helping and you're not even giving it consideration.  To Diddly's point - some news/any news on the front page is probably better than absolutely nothing.

Considering the basic stormtrooper is already $90, I wouldn't expect the Sandtrooper to be less.

Any ideas on the exclusive accessory? Maybe the "look sir, droids" ring or the staff used while riding the dewback.

That's what I figured, but I'm trying to be more optimistic in 2009.   ;D

Speaking of which, maybe the exclusive is the little flying imperial droid that came witht he POTF2 version?

So we are mostly saying At-At instead of spelling it out. Do you think that is because we are toy collectors and the toy commericals always said At-At? I'm seeing on other sites that younger people call it an A.T.A.T. while us old farts call it an At-At.

What other sites are you referring to where young people are saying it verbally different than we old schoolers do?

They have any more for 50% off?

I didn't see anymore, but I could ask.

By the time I ship it to you you're still probably looking at about $45 for it.

I'd be willing to have someone buy one at half off and just fork over $15 - $20 for the exclusive pilot if anyone's interested in that.  I don't need yet another over sized TIE taking up space.

I saw "Doubt" last night and it was pretty interesting.  Don't go see it if you like neat and tidy movies that spell everything out for you, but if you like to sit and discuss what happened and what it means afterwards, this is a good movie for you.  I don't want to give too much away, but the title is very appropriate in many ways.  I would give it four out of five stars.

I'm taking the Vikes in an upset.  If they win, next time I'm in MN Scott's buying all my booze.

Careful on those bets with Scott.  He's been owing me a big frosty brew for several months now with no planned payment date in site.  My only hope is that the Vikings actually win a game or two and he decides to drive up to the cities to gloat.   ;)

Well, the movie is ruined for me now.  You can obviously tell from these photos that there will be robots, army guys, and explosions, none of which I would have expected.   ;)

Preorder 1/9/09

This is a pass for me.

I like it - it looks like more than just their STormie with a shoulder pad and backpack.  It's up for consideration if it's around $60, otherwise I'll pass.

Does that mean we should start referring to the "Chicken Walker" as an "Atst"?

I never heard the term "Chicken Walker" when either ESP or ROTJ came out.  It was always Scout Walker.

Ditto, though I'm more apt to call it an AT-ST than a scout walker.  I'm going to blame that on the AT-ST Driver vintage figure.

Congrats on the win Rob!  I still think we should toss in a few bucks or an extra figure each or something for next year's league.  I would have dominated this year if I just had a more favorable schedule and a much better team.   ;)

Not really...I think ownership is...but me and most of the fans think he is a moron.  His clock management, the most important thing he is in charge of is absolutely abyssmal.  He also frequently is outcoached during games.  The Vikes will often get off to a fast start only to get out adjusted coming out in the 2nd half.  I'm not expecting them to beat the Eagles...I am happy they won the North though

Congrats to all the Viking fans out there!  (I think that may just be you Scott unless we start hearing from bandwagon fans)  Childress is awfull - I honestly think the Purple would be in better shape if they had a terrible season and BC was let go for someone better.  That could still happen, but I think ownership would be reluctant to let him go after winning a division title, even if the division is as bad as ours.

I was a little worried about the Pack for a while there, but nice to see them beat up on Detroit.  I feel bad for the Lions, but also don't want my club being the only team to give them a win.

How about the Eagles pounding Dallas today?  Oh how the mighty have fallen...
