Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Official Movie Thread
« on: May 29, 2009, 04:20 PM »
I like how that article jumps on the "remake" term like they're trying to stir up ****.  The two articles I read about Alien yesterday presented it as an origins story and mentioned nothing of a remake.

Pandorum looks interesting.  I agree with the write-up, it sounds a lot like Aliens/Pitch Black/Event Horizon.  But, let's face it, you can look at almost everything coming out of Hollywood and see a parallel to something else.

   E...

An Aliens origin/prequel would be great and much more welcome than a remake IMO.  I thought Pandorum looked good too, but couldn't tell if the bad guys were really aliens or altered humans.  Seemed like more of a vampire or zombie theme to me, but set in space.  I'll definitely check it out either way.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Transformers

Are any of the new releases comparable to the MP or Alternator series figs?  Or is there a guide online for what these new releases look like?  I almost bought Ironhide last time around, but he was still too far of a departure for me.  Jetfire has always been one of my favorite charactors though.

Justin,
It isn't common in Canada, trust me.  No one over on the Canadian boards is talking about it at all.  Legends got some in and sold them at around $20 a piece, but the Nemesis wave hasn't hit general retail up here at all.

I didn't mean to imply they were common in Canada - just that I've heard more about them hitting there than in the states.  I have not seen anything in the US outside of ridiculous Ebay prices.

I don't think Hasbro is intentionally trying to screw over collectors here.  Just seems like the focus moved away from 6" figures to the smaller size and this last wave likely suffered.  This was probably going to be a low production run anyway as a retailer exclusive.  Doesn't seem that far off from what we see in terms of poor distribution at the end of any wave, Star Wars or otherwise.  Still sucks that I can't find my Tigra though.   :P

People who judge screen names w/o knowing the story behind them.

Me, Matt, Rob, Chris, Paul, Jeff, JesseJames, Nathan, Jayson, et. al all must fall under that category..............

I was actually referring to "Name," which I don't think is the actual name of the person posting. I don't see how any of the names above relate to this.  Sorry to get you so riled up with what was meant as a joke and comeback to someone else's call out.   :P

I was looking into it a while back simply because I'm unfamiliar with so many storylines.  I think it was $10 a month or $60 a year if you go that route.  Super lame if that's what they're expecting collectors to do for a figure.

Anyone seeing the Nemesis wave hitting Wal Marts?  I've seen a few on eBay but nothing at my local stores (went to four of them this morning).  I need a Tigra if anyone can grab one for me.  :)

John

I've not heard of this landing anywhere in the states.  Seems to be more frequent in Canada if you have any contacts up that way.  I'm still seeking a Tigra as well, but not willing to pay evilbay prices.

I'm certainly okay with keeping it open if others still enjoy it.

People who overestimate the influence of their opinion.

Likewise.  How about people unoriginal enough to come up with a screen name?   ;)

Some details have been uncovered regarding how to get the "mail away" Nick Fury for the Marvel Universe line.  Apparently, some of the wave 4 figures have forms in them (seen at the above link) that say you have to sign up for Marvel's Digital Comics Service to be able to get the figure.  Now, maybe Hasbro will implement another way to get this figure - but if not, I think that's pretty lame.  For a character that is fairly crucial to the Marvel Universe as a whole, and to make it a difficult/expensive mail-away is pretty silly.

How much does the digital comic service cost and how long do you need to sign up?  If it ends up being about the cost of some other mail-away exclusives and you get the DCS with it, that doesn't seem so bad.  If you have to sign up for a year and it costs $50, then that stinks.

Hrmm.  I assumed that Nate was just a fan of Fonzie with no pants.  Thanks for providing a little more clarity around the closing Jeff.

This certainly seems like another thread we could do away with at JD.  It just hasn't been the same fun thread lately and feels like its run its course.

Things come up in people's lives that they bring to this thread.  There have been a few instances where people have vented about something and someone has provided a new perspective on why something was done a certain way.  While some people come here just to vent (which is the purpose of this thread), others have actually learned something.  It was never intended to be a "fun" thread (although it has been funny at times).  Perhaps your sentiments are fueled my sour grapes?

Well, I personally think Drunk Driving is much more than a pet peeve, so I've found some of the more recent posts in here a little offensive.  I generally just avoid it though, which seems to be par for the course since there are lengthy gaps in activity here.  I just assumed that admin were trying to clean up the forums a little, so this feels like a good candidate for lockdown, Tracy's sour grapes aside.   ;)  I'm certainly okay with keeping it open if others still enjoy it.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Price range of Blue Snaggletooth?
« on: May 28, 2009, 11:05 PM »
Yeah $60 is definitely good for Han Carb, I think that's what I got mine for.

eBay is also definitely the way to go for finding the current value of almost any collectible. It's always been my thinking (and this is how the price guides use to come up with their numbers) that a collectible's value is always set at what it most recently sold for. Unfortunately for Blue Snaggletooths that seems to be in the range of $100-$150 based on condition nowadays. Good luck!

In seeing Jayson's newly acquired Blue Snaggletooth, it got me thinking about how things have changed from my observations lately on pricing for this guy. A few years ago a pretty good condition Blue Snags would run between $100-$150, however lately I've seen junkers going for that price. I'm talking about figures where the blue jumpsuit is faded such that the torso and limbs do not match, almost no silver left on the boots, nicks and scratches on the hand and so on. It would seem to get a really quality Blue Snags could cost as much as $200. Am I seeing unique occurences or has there truly been a shift in the value for this guy?

I've been watching these for quite a while as well.  I'm not sure I can vouch for the same level of price discrepancy, but it does feel like the overall prices are a tad higher, despite there being about as many on the secondary market as I recall seeing in years past.  I'd agree that the "average" price has probably gone up $20-30 in the last few years, but that's just my own speculation from the sales I've seen.

Collections / Re: JediJman's Vintage SW Collection

Thanks for the compliments guys!  The vintage carded and loose displays were a ton of years in the making, so great to hear that others enjoy seeing them as well.

Very nice carded vinty collection you have there Justin - I'm now very jealous.  Nice touch on putting the modern counterpart with them.   ;)   Your loose collection brings back fond memories of many figures I never had - and still don't.  Some day....

I suppose all of your modern carded figs are still packed away, no?

Yep - I've got the modern loose figs on display, but definitely not enough room to get the carded ones up anywhere.  The VOTC and various other exclusives that came in protective cases are hanging up, but everything else is tucked away in the boxes.

Scott closed it at my request.  I apologize for any inconvenience, we may move it to a different section later, but for now, it needs a rest.

Thank Christ...

A.) I would thank Paul or Scott - I'm pretty sure Christ had little involvement in this.
B.) Why wouldn't you just avoid a thread if you're not interested in it?

Is THIS a fair price for the HK version of Cantina Band Member?  I have the Japan version, but have been saving a spot for the HK one.

Thanks!
