Yeah, I know about all those, but that's what I was talking about with the impacting of the aesthetics and articulation and all of these things.  That Threepio's just a couple of hunks of plastic, and the Artoos with the light-up eyes have the fixed domes and stuff.  So they're all gimped in some way or another.

What I'd like to see are regular figures with LEDs implemented in, like the Resurgence Artoo or Threepio with light-up eyes, while retaining the articulation.  I don't know enough about LEDs to know if that's even possible at that small a scale, and if it even is, how expensive it would be.

And what do you know about electronics and toys, anyway?   ::)

Just because I totally owned you with my last post, don't get all jealous and ****. I think just a cell battery and some small LEDs would get the job done, and I can't imagine why it wouldn't be possible. At least in an R2 figure.

LEDs are cheap, small, and consume very little battery power, so I'd say it's well within their budgets. They pulled it off with a couple of R2s, so I don't know why not a Jawa or other droids. If you recall, in fact, the broken apart 3P0 that came with the Saga-era "Cloud City Capture" Chewbacca had eyes that lit up when the head was pushed into the body. They can definitely pull it off.

Have you ever wore your Greedo vest out in the rain?

I love that song.

Preach on, brother!  All the cantina aliens were bad guys.  That's the way it should be.  And they can shove the PC names they were given later on, they already have names.  Hammerhead, Snaggle Tooth, Squid Head etc.

PC? Because they were afraid of offending walruses and squids?

I'm more of a Zorbeez guy, myself.

I hated what the EU did to his character though...to me he was always always a bad guy.  He had a bad guy gun and he clubbed baby Rebels.  He wasn't some peacenik hippy...he was Hammerhead

Not to mention those shifty eyes....

I'm totally happy with them making movie-accurate versions of the vintage goofs - I'm not too worried about whether they make a modern version of the screwed up figures at all. If they went out of their way to make a modern version of the goofed Greedo figure, I think that would actually be pretty stupid, especially considering it wouldn't very likely sell much. I would like all of the unmade vintage stuff redone for sure, though.

It's just a bad measure.  Lots of Vintage figures were not accurate.  So saying that a character hasn't been remade because none match the details of the Vintage version is silly.  I think you need to judge based on whether the movie character has been redone.  Clearly Greedo (as well as the trooper in the Death Squad Commander photo) have been redone.

You have to look at the source of the inaccuracy, though - the R2 figure, while looking a bit funky by modern standards, is obviously produced based on what R2 looks like. Greedo very obviously does NOT look like the vintage figure outside of his head and hands, and, as Scott pointed out, the body is a sculpt based on an entirely different character. Then there's issues like the DSC, which are likely based on discolored or inaccurate/ambiguous photography. I wouldn't lump R2 into those issues - that's more an issue of a cheaper/less detailed sculpt than anything else.

I swear, one of these days, I'm gonna start up my own message board where I can edit thread titles to my heart's content, instead of having to watch helplessly from the sidelines while others screw them up all willy-nilly.

Oh God - that sounds horrible. Who would be interested in that?

I remember seeing a sneak preview of the POTF2 stuff in a Wizard mag back in late '94 or early '95 or so, and being REALLY excited that they were being put back into production, but I didn't actually start buying any until about '97 or so, because those sculpts just didn't do anything for me. Once they got a year or so in, the figures got a lot better, for sure.

This is one of the few aspects of the vintage era that has yet to be improved upon by the modern line - Rob's photo selections prove that. Here's hoping they go all out. It's been a long time....

Sorry chaps, but they nailed it in '95. Hard to beat perfection, I say.

Amazzzzzzing. But not quite as good as Indiana Jones vs. Fat Pork Chop Ass. That was classic.

Quick search on ebay shows loose complete Fetts going for $60-80. I think parting it out might get you a similar sum, based on the same search. The braids go for about $30-40 alone, though, so it might get you more to break it up into several auctions.
