Watto's Junk Yard / How old were you...
« on: August 29, 2005, 04:10 PM »
Just for the hell of it... don't answer all of these if it gets too personal.   ;)

...When you got your first Star Wars figure?
- Probably 3 years old, in 1980

...When you first remember seeing a Star Wars movie in a theatre?
- Seeing ESB when I was 3 years old, in 1980.

...Went to your first professional sports game?
- The first one I remember was in 1985 to a St. Louis Cardinals game, I was 8 years old.

...When you drank your first beer?
- I was 15... didn't really start though until college.

...Found the love of your life (if you have yet)?
- I was 21... still together 7 years later.

Revenge of the Sith / Toy Runs affected by Gas Prices?
« on: August 28, 2005, 10:13 PM »
Just wondering, with that terrible Hurrican Katrina getting ready to hit, Fox News just said that gas prices are expected to go up to around $3.00 a gallon.

How does this affect your toy runs?  I think it's going to start effecting me now some... I decided to quit wasting gas and time looking for the Clone Evolution set, so I ordered it online.

Revenge of the Sith / What ROTS Repacks do YOU want to see?
« on: August 18, 2005, 01:40 PM »
Sorry if this topic has already been made, I looked and didn't see it.  Anyways, are there any repacks you want to see from the ROTS line?  There's a few I'd go for -

- C3PO
- Battle Droid
- Red Royal Guard
- Blue Senate Guard
- Clone #41 (can't get tired of seeing them in stores)
- Sneak Preview Wookiee (although there is a second version coming)

Heck, I think an assortment of these six figures would be a good thing.  Two of each per case.

What about you all?  Any you want to see?

Saga Collection '06 / Props Assortment
« on: August 17, 2005, 12:34 PM »
Ok, this is probably something that won't happen, but how cool would it be if Hasbro started some sort of Diorama Props Assortments?

For $14.99, you get a figure (probably repacked knowing Hasbro), along with several "props" - and not just little dingy accessories, but cool stuff that is recognizable in the Star Wars universe.

These would be a step up from the typical deluxe/ultra figures.

Here's what I mean... and there are obviously many more possibilities -

- TPM Anakin Skywalker w/ giant Pod engine, Pit Droid, spare parts, etc.

- AOTC Clone Pilot w/ Gun Pod, weapons, removable helmet, etc.

- ROTS Emperor w/ office throne chair, desk, lightsaber, red outfit w/ removable black hood, etc.

- ANH Luke Skywalker w/ moisture vaporator, farm droid, storage crates, etc.

- ESB Chewbacca w/ incinerator belt/track, Ungaught, box of C3PO parts, junk, etc.

- ROTJ C3PO w/ Ewok throne, Ewok, baby Ewok, spears, etc.

Thoughts?  Just trying to come up with something new...

Revenge of the Sith / Other Retailers... Check them out!
« on: August 13, 2005, 05:19 PM »
A few months back I remember that Kohl's was getting in the red Clone Commander wave before anyone else was.  Today, a friend of mine found the Mustafar Sentry and black Clone Pilots at a Kohl's... I've also heard that Gordman's has gotten in the Tarkin wave a couple of times.

So, if you can't find what you are looking for at the typical places, it might be worth your while to check out some of those other places like Kohl's and Gordman's that do have a toy department too.

Even Family Dollar... they've been getting in VOTC figures lately for $5.00 I hear.  I missed out on some Stormtroopers, but did get a couple of Fetts for diorama purposes.

Any other places you guys might find stuff that you wouldn't expect?

Saga Collection '06 / Cool Kid Collectors
« on: July 29, 2005, 04:39 PM »
Well, there is a stereotype that  most kids don't really like Star Wars figures, are into the Pokemon and Power Ranger stuff, etc.  Every once in a while I see a kid going crazy for Star Wars stuff... more with the ROTS than any other Star Wars line since the early 1980s in seems...

Anyways, today might have been the BEST toy run I've ever gone on.  I didn't find much figure-wise, but instead found something even better - a great conversation about Star Wars with a 10 year old at Walmart.

He was looking for a General Grievous figure, and there were two different kinds... he said he only wanted to get one, because his mom told him he could get 4 figures.  He wanted to get four different characters... including Luke.

I told him that there wouldn't be any Luke Skywalker figures out for a while.  He was pretty bummed about that.  He was looking for a ROTJ Luke, and said he had the one that had the button on his back and he didn't like that figure.  Even said he wish they would make a super articulated version like the #41 Clonetrooper!

He then asked me to help him decide on what figures to get, which I thought was really cool.  I told him to get whatever he wanted, and he said that he didn't want to pass up any figures that are shortpacked because he might not get a chance to find them again.

As in most Walmarts, there is a second section in the main toy section that has some Star Wars stuff too.  I went back there and found a new Pilot Obi Wan Kenobi... I really wanted an extra of this figure, but told him that I would pick this as one of the 4 figures he could get.  He asked if it was a good figure, and I said it's probably the best Obi Wan Kenobi the've made in the prequel line.

While helping him pick out two more figures, he asked me which was my favorite Star Wars film.  I told him either ANH or ESB, or ROTS.  He said that he liked ROTS, but "wished that it had focused more on Anakin's seduction to the Dark Side."  I couldn't believe he said that!!

He ended up getting the 4-saber Grievous, the Pilot Obi Wan, a Clone Pilot and Darth Vader.

Just thought I'd share that little story... I hope this section is appropriate for this story, as it kind of relates to the upcoming SAGA line because he did want a Luke figure... this kid proved to me that not all kids want those action features too... plus sometimes kids do think like adults.

The Wookiee Arcade / The Shard of Spring
« on: July 27, 2005, 11:58 AM »

When I was in elementary/junior high, this was my favorite game of all time.  A few years back, I played it again on my parents' old Apple computer before they got rid of it.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a copy of this game onto a disk to play it on a modern PC?  I've looked online and even tried to download it, but it won't download correctly...

Saga Collection '06 / Advertising
« on: July 25, 2005, 04:12 PM »
Do you guys think that Hasbro advertises the Star Wars line enough?

I don't watch the kiddie channels, so I don't know if they have many toy commericals for the ROTS line.  But I do remember seeing all kinds of commercials for the line back in the day when I was a kid in the early 80s.

Of course now there are a billion things that kids are interested in too besides Star Wars...

The line seems to do pretty well as it is, and I think this has been the most popular Star Wars summer since 1983... but should they advertise more?  Will they do so when the ROTS line dies out?

With the supposed TV series coming out, maybe we'll see some commercials to coincide with the series?

What about magazine ads?  Or other forms of media?  We see a ton of it online of course.

What do you guys think?

Watto's Junk Yard / Insomnia = Hell
« on: July 22, 2005, 10:49 AM »
I can't believe what happened to me yesterday.

I got very little sleep Monday night, and did not even fall asleep either Tuesday or Wednesday night.  Before falling asleep last night, I had gone almost 60 straight hours without falling asleep.

So they made me leave work yesterday to get checked out.  After going to the doctor, they gave me some prescription sleep medicine to use for two weeks.  I may have to go see a specialist.

I have plans to go out of town with my friends this weekend... I really shouldn't go on a float trip/camping though; I shouldn't drink, be in the heat, etc.  It sounds really stupid, I know.  But I had a major anxiety attack and am really stressed out.  Just going one single night without sleep can take 2-3 weeks for your body to get back to normal.  I hope nobody makes fun of me for this because it isn't funny.  I took 6 sleeping pills and half a bottle of Nyquil on Wednesday night and I still couldn't relax.

I've always had trouble sleeping, but with stress at work and a lot of things on my mind I guess it hit me like a brick wall.

Physically and mentally I'm drained.  I am still going to go this weekend though, but probably won't be myself.

Anyone else have problems with insomnia?

Saga Collection '06 / Battle of Carkoon Wave
« on: July 15, 2005, 09:19 PM »
The new Bib Fortuna, Han Solo and Princess Leia look great!!!  Finally, after about 9 years, resculpts of these characters!!

Bib Fortuna - simply wow... so much better looking than the old version... I am so glad they are finally remaking him... much better than my customizing attempt from a few years back... I can finally convert this version I made into a random Twi'lek background character or make a few changes for him to be a TPM version -

Han Solo - looks great too, and a definite needed new addition to our weak assortment of ROTJ Han Solo... customizing potential with this one!

Princess Leia - can't wait to see with the helmet removed... her helmet seems big, but I think it was kind of big on her in the movie too...

Overall, this Wookiee is pleased with what he sees in these new OT figures... yipeeee!  Amazing what Hasbro can do now compared to how bad the old POTF2 versions of these figures look by today's standards.

Revenge of the Sith / TRU 2-pks
« on: July 2, 2005, 03:50 PM »
Looks like TRU is starting to bundle up some of their Star Wars figures and selling them as 2pks at $8.97 or some price around that.  Saw this in a thread at Scum but not in person yet.

Good idea to me, though I'd rather see them cut their price to $4.00 a figure or something for a week... or Buy 2 get 1 free...

Photonovels and Movies / Vacation!
« on: July 2, 2005, 10:40 AM »
Just to let you guys know, I will be leaving for vacation tomorrow morning, and won't be back until late Thursday... so, no posting from this Wookiee unless there is internet access in my hotel, and even then I'll probably be spending most of my time busy or on the beach with the female Wookiee in my life.

So, everyone have a great 4th of July, be safe, remember what the 4th of July really stands for, and I'll look forward to chatting about everything customizing with you all when I get back.
