Newbies / Re: Hello to all

Welcome aboard Todd!  Always good to bring in some new vintage blood to the forums here.  Might even make a vintage lurker like myself finally start chiming in a little.   ;)  Have fun!

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Animated Wave 3 - Anakin/Grievous/ARC
« on: February 27, 2004, 05:48 AM »
So with the Clone Wars mini series making a come back next month, for the next (and last?) 10 episodes, do you think there will be any more animated figures to go along with it, to support it's release?  With a number of new characters that they're likely to introduce in the second half, I think we'll see more of these figures, if but only one wave this time (hopefully two though).

What do you think?  More on the way?  I haven't followed the teases on the next round, but I'm sure others have a clue as to what else is on tap.  So with that in mind, what figures do you think they could use in Series 3 of the animated figure line?  The only one that pops into my mind at the moment is that character that was just announced at the official site - the half alien half droid Jedi killer thing.  I suppose a Padme would be a solid and obvious choice as well.  Which others though?

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Original Trilogy Collection
« on: February 27, 2004, 05:36 AM »
I've got to agree that these card designs may just be the best ever!  They should've started them a lot earlier though.   >:(  I find it very hard to believe though that this line will only contain 7 new figures from the Bespin and Dagobah waves, plus all the rereleases.  There's got to be more on tap than just that, and I'd imagine that Hasbro will recard the "vintage 12" onto these OTC cards, after their "limited" release is quickly finished with.  It'd be a shame not to get those definitive figures out into wider circulation if the rumors of their limited availability hold true.

I really think that Hasbro will run the OTC up to the Ep. 3 launch.  As some people pointed out already, they could easily just alter the insert if they wanted to throw some prequel figures from TPM and AOTC into the mix later on.  There's still a lot of rumored figures on OCB's list up top here that I would think are still due out before Ep. 3, so hopefully Hasbro's got a few more unannounced tricks up their sleeves.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: New York - Toy Fair 2004
« on: February 27, 2004, 05:29 AM »
I guess I really didn't miss too much while I was away.  Nothing much shown at Toy Fair that hadn't previously been or covered elsewhere, other than the carded vintage Luke.  Rather disappointing showing from Hasbro in that respect.  I assume no one's heard anything to the effect of them running another "Star Wars only" showing like last year?  That would be nice if they could spill the beans a little more on 4Q'04, or discuss their plans a little more leading up to Ep. 3, and the possibility that the OTC line may continue on up through that point at least.  Oh well.   :-\

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: 2004 NEW NEWS ON SANDCRAWLER
« on: February 27, 2004, 05:24 AM »
Well, an underscaled Sandcrawler is better than no Sandcrawler at all, I suppose.   :-\

But I definitely agree with the sentiment being expressed that this vehicle should've been at least a little bigger.  I certainly would've paid a higher price point for an all new sculpt that's larger than this old vintage mold from 1978.  Why the heck do they think passing off a 25+ year old toy with a suped up paint job is going to fly with modern day collectors?

Fortunately, a lot of Kenner's vintage molds were at least pretty decent, so they weren't too bad to use again to save some money, but come on - this Sandcrawler is just way too freaking tiny!  Splurge a little Hasbro!  We'll still buy it.  I promise!  Maybe even a few of them if you do it right.   8)

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Fan Choice #6
« on: February 27, 2004, 05:15 AM »
Sorry I'm a little late to the Hasbro bashing party here, but I wanted to express my extreme dismay with Hasbro's latest gaffe - the Fan Choice poll #6.  They should be embarrassed for passing a Fan Choice off as this sham.  What a load of crap!   >:(

If Hasbro's finally figured out that NONE of these figures were easily attainable at retail for many collectors, then stop screwing around and just put them ALL back out!  How hard is that?  I just don't get it.  They're recarding and rereleasing all this other crap over and over, what with previous standard releases, HOF, Burger King glasses, OTC, etc., etc.  Yet through it all, they STILL won't rerelease any of the harder to find figures.  It's as if they're afraid to make a dent in the secondary market prices on these, as if it even mattered to them!   ::)

These fan's choice polls should be for new products.  That's what gets the fans and collectors excited.  As it is, Hasbro's just getting bashed left and right for this goof, so hopefully they're learning a valuable lesson, and will surprise us real SOON with fan choice poll #7, to make up for this atrocity (kind of like when they showed the Tatooine Saga Luke shortly after disappointing a lot of fans with the TRD version).

Come on Hasbro, you can do it!  You've proven to be more collector friendly now, so get back to that strategy and forget this nonsense!

Well, since R2 is listed as being a ROTJ New-Vintage figure (in the series of 12), I'd be inclined to think we'll get one there...

That's an interesting observation there BDW!  Hopefully you're right.  If it does happen in this "vintage" line, at least it looks like it'll have a good shot at finally being done correctly.  Hasbro just needs to realize that we really only need the hilt with R2, and not the entire blade, so that way they don't have to make some wacky attempt to fit the entire thing down through his body again.

Hopefully it'll be a definitive R2, like the other figures appear to be.  I'm STILL waiting for Hasbro to finally make an R2 figure with a COMPLETELY retractable third leg.  I hate how they all stick out the bottom of him on all the previous releases.  They better have 3 articulated ankles on him too!  Some serious potential on this one, so they better get it right!  Think about it - the ultimate astromech, for all your customizing needs!   8)

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Rank the Star Wars movies!
« on: February 27, 2004, 04:58 AM »
Thought I'd bump this oldie but goodie back up since it's been a while.  Anyone else care to chime in?  Here's my picks again:

1 - The Empire Strikes Back (who said sequels are never better?)

2 - A New Hope/Star Wars (still holds up great after more than a quarter century)

3 - Return of the Jedi (phooey on those medling teddy bears beating up Stormtroopers!)

4 - Attack of the Clones (the Prequels just don't feel as "Star Wars" to me - too much CGI)

5 - The Phantom Menace (no comment.  >:()

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Lucasfilm Animation
« on: February 27, 2004, 04:55 AM »
Just stumbled across this one, and was curious if there's been any development with this, since I've never heard a peep about it.  I'd love to see some Star Wars animated cartoon type series, similar to Clone Wars (but longer of course), and some of the suggestions above would be great.  The SW universe is so broad and interesting, that there'd be a thousand different possibilities!

But isn't ILM basically already doing the Lucasfilm animation work?  You know - TPM and AOTC.  Weren't those animated movies?   :P

Holy crap, that's absolutely mindboggling!  Words can't even describe how impressive and cool that thing is Muftak.  Absolutely amazing work there.  I'm almost sad to see your project come to an end.  One question though: no conference room for the Imperials?  Or did you already address that somewhere and I just missed it?  Regardless, it's so pretty I almost want to cry.   8)

So can you provide us with any teaser info on what you've got in store for the Bespin set?  How many components, or are you not yet finished with the preliminary planning stages yet?  Can't wait to see that one!  If you're taking requests, after you finish Bespin, you'll have to do the Cantina, Jabba's Palace, and Death Star II.  But I'm sure you already knew that.   ;)

Keep up the brilliant work Muftak.  You're a true credit to the customizing community!   8)

What, no Oscar update Grant?!  Ya' gotta finish what you started bud!   :P

Whoops!  Sorry about that!  Thanks for taking care of that JediMAC, as I was just looking for my old thread here to bump it up for the Oscars this weekend.  So what races have you guys interested?  I'm really hoping that LOTR cleans house.  That's just been such an amazing trilogy that I think they need to go out with the ultimate bang, and all the credit in the world, especially Peter Jackson.

I'm with JediMAC and am really hoping for an upset win by Johnny Depp too, for Pirates.  Loved him in that movie!

So what's everyone's picks?  My girlfriend is actually talking about throwing a little Oscar party over at her parent house with a bunch of our friends.  Why do girls always have such a need to "entertain"?   :P

JD Sports Forum! / Re: Golf
« on: February 27, 2004, 04:30 AM »
I've recently been getting into golf, as my girlfriend's father has been taking me out to a course that he's a member at.  He actually gave me a cheap starter set of clubs for Christmas a few months ago since I said I'd like to pick up the game.  I've been hitting the driving range, and my swing's finally coming around.

It's nice to get out there and play a round, but at the same time it's a little stressful since I'm trying to impress my future father in law.  I still haven't gotten out with any of my friends yet, but I'd imagine that to be a little more relaxing throwing back a few beers and hacking away.  I bet I play a little better when I don't feel the pressure so much.

So how seriously do you JD golfers take the sport?  Do you really get into and get pissed when you play poorly, or are you just out there to relax and have a good time?

On a related note, what's up with Tiger lately.  He seems to have fallen off the face of the earth, or at least off the face of the top 5 leaderboard.  For some reason, it hasn't been as fun watching golf on the tube when Tiger's not in the hunt.

We just had a new Walmart open up near us just a couple weeks ago, which I'm quite excited about, since the TRU, Target, and other WM withing striking distance haven't yielded anything in quite some time.  But I've got to say that some of you guys that live in the bigger cities are sure as hell lucky with all the places near you.  That's just crazy!  Most jealous I am!
