The Original Trilogy / Re: Original Trilogy on bootleg DVD
« on: June 3, 2003, 03:01 AM »
...the four-disc Extended Edition of Fellowship--it's generally considered to be the finest DVD of a single film released to date.

I wholeheartedly concur.  That DVD set is an absolute masterpiece, and has to be considered the "definitive" version of that film, with the extra half hour of footage seamlessly integrated into the existing theatrical release.  And this isn't just "fluff" footage for the sake of adding stuff in.  It's important story or character development sequences that most likely just couldn't be included in the theatrical version due to it's already overwhelming length.

I absolutely can't wait for the TTT extended edition.  Hopefully it's treated similarly to the prior installment, with some great new scenes added in.  George Lucas should be paying some serious attention here, as his competition is whoopin his booty!  Especially now that the SW deleted scenes are winding up on a freaking pay website, rather than being included with the DVD, either integrated into the film, or at the very least as a deleted scene extra.  Pure greed.  For shame.

I guess to stay on topic, I should at least add that I haven't picked up the bootleg DVDs of the OT yet, but I plan to some time.  Another very bad move by Lucas to deny his fans these incredible moments in cinematic history.  For shame, again.

I agree, thanks for spending some time chatting with the fans and collectors here Vic!  That really means a lot to see a person in your position making the effort to communicate with us.    Some informative, interesting, and amusing information in that interview.  Great job all around guys!  I feel better about the state of the Fan Club, as well as the silver Fett figure, among other things.

I'm guessing that due to a timing issue this particular question wasn't asked:

How will the Fan Club be involved with the Official Site's upcoming Hyperspace pay site?

I've heard a rumor that there will be the possibility of paying a "combined membership" for the two, thus saving ourselves $10 on the website's annual fee (assuming we're already Fan Club members).  Is this true?

I also love the idea of those several foreign exclusive items mentioned above finding their way to the Fan Club as well.  That would be an excellent product to sell to your members for sure!  Hopefully it's at least a possibility, since 95% of the collectors have missed out (or will miss out) on them.

Thanks again for your time Vic.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Mysterious Jedi 4 pack
« on: June 2, 2003, 12:35 AM »
What really bothers me about this set is that Hasbro deliberately withheld that detention chamber thing from the Arena playset for which it was originally intended.  Instead of giving us the best value in that nice playset, they instead throw it into this 4-pack full of rehashes so that the only way we can get it to make our Arena complete is by shelling out $20 at TRU.  That rots like a stinking pile of Bantha poodoo!   ;)

Very similar to their tricky use of that EU speeder bike with the four bounty hunter rehashes too!  Very ugly trend developing here.  These 4-packs should always include at least a an army builder or two (kit-bashed if need be), a cool new astromech, and a nice assortment of accessories, among other things.  The crap Hasbro is now putting into these upcoming 4-packs just plain sucks.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: OK, what the.... (Nexu!?)
« on: June 2, 2003, 12:26 AM »
That's really strange.  Just checked out my loose Nexu which has been untouched on a shelf for over a year.  It looks perfectly fine.  Maybe it's just a strange isolated incident with yours Jesse.  Or maybe you had a young cousin come over and knock the thing off the shelf or something, unbeknownst to you?  No idea really.  Bummer!   :(

Glad to have you join in with the JD crew here Hung!  A fun bunch of Star Wars crazies here that I'm sure you'll have a good time conversing with.  I know I do!

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: We need a New MS Outlook Feature
« on: May 30, 2003, 07:15 PM »
That is certainly a much needed feature!  Though death might be a bit extreme.  Perhaps just some type of slow and highly painful torture with corresponding permanent disfigurement that the spammer would have to live with for the rest of their lives.  That way, they could be a permanent living advertisement/warning to anyone else who is considering filling up my e-mail inbox with absolute crap.   >:(

TV-9D9 / Re: Holiday Special.
« on: May 30, 2003, 07:11 PM »
My recommendation for those who might choose to watch this sometime in the future, is to KEEP YOUR EYES CLOSED at all times!  And put some earplugs in too!

If you do just those two things, you'll probably enjoy the Holiday Special more, as well as keeping your lofty opinion of the original trilogy intact!   8)

I just enjoyed seeing these movies on the big screen again mostly.  As for the Special Edition changes themselves, I didn't care for most of them, aside from the great revamped Death Star space battle in ANH.  Other than that and a couple other minor changes and fixes, George should've just left well enough alone.  To go and seriously alter the character development of the two biggest male heroes in the trilogy was just an outright atrocity.  Han shooting first, and Luke screaming like a baby were very, very poor editing changes.  VERY POOR.   >:(

The Original Trilogy / Re: How does Vader know who "Luke" is?
« on: May 30, 2003, 07:02 PM »
Smart lady you got there JoshEEE!  I think you and Muftak covered it in these last two posts.  That makes the most sense anyways.

I'm sure Luke's notoriety spiked after polishing off the Empire's ultimate weapon.  Probably wasn't terribly difficult for the Imperial Spies to put their ears to the walls and find out who done it!

I suppose an even better question is:

Why the hell didn't someone change poor Luke's last name somewhere along the line?  Wouldn't Obi-Wan or Yoda have thought that might be a good idea to better conceal his identity and keep him hidden and safe from his nasty Pops?

I think I've seen this question discussed before, and it usually goes something like:  Well, the name Skywalker must be the equivalent to "Smith" or "Jones" on Tattooine, or something to that effect.  Well, I ain't buying it!  Either Ben and Yoda were way stupid, or they almost wanted Luke to be found out eventually.  Perhaps due to him having some kind of date with his family's destiny?

I'm like most everyone else here.  I'll definitely do some comparing if I have more than one choice (which hasn't been too often lately).  I pay a little closer attention to some of the figures with more detailed paint schemes (tattoos, buttons, eyes, hair, all astromechs, etc.)  There really are some pretty noticeable differences on them if you look closely.

I probably first started my paint scheme analysis back near the beginning of the POTJ era, or possibly the end of Ep. 1 though, when I noticed a few goofy paint screw ups on the figures I had bought, especially on Maul's head.

Check a few posts back barfly.  It was Jango Fettish because of that banner he created there.  I think that was it though.

As for me, I had been a lurker at RS for quite a while, probably over a year.  I enjoyed browsing the posts and reading people's thoughts on stuff, but never actually registered and posted over there.  I think that was most likely due to me fearing for my life if I said something that someone disagreed with there.  Seems like a lot of fighting and personal attacks, and very little respect for their fellow members over there.  I never really wanted to subject myself to that potentially happening to me.

I saw in a few cool posts the JD links in some sigs over there, followed them here, and noticed a totally different atmosphere.  Fun (and civil) forums here, and I feel like I can finally participate too!   8)

I've browsed a couple other SW forums from time to time, but nothing really caught my eye or held my attention.  So this is pretty much the only place that I hang my hat!

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: "Hyperspace" Trailer Debuts Today
« on: May 30, 2003, 06:19 PM »
Makes me ill just thinking about it.  This sucks.  I was fully expecting that Jedi raid on the Droid Control Ship deleted scene to be included with the DVD.  Now we know why it wasn't.  I suppose the deleted footage of more of the ending lightsaber duel scene where Dooku had 2 lightsabers will get thrown onto this site later on as well.   >:(

Hopefully some of these extras will at least get thrown into the Ultimate Star Wars Saga DVD Boxset in 2006.  You just know it's coming!   8)

Haven't heard of any price announced yet dustrho.  I'm sure they'll post it the day after the free trial period ends.  I swear to God if it's more than $10 a year, I'm going to blow chunks on someone!   :-X
