Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Question for the married folks
« on: May 30, 2003, 06:14 PM »
I know when Luke's saber came last week from MR, he said "So, is this what part of the tax refund went for?" and I honestly answered "No, of course not",  as it went for another prop...again not my fault he asked the wrong question. :)

That's too funny jadesfire!   ;D

As for me, this isn't a major concern quite yet, as my girl and I are still several months away from officially engaged status.  So for now, my finances are solely mine to be concerned with.  But I suppose if I don't find a nice enough rock to stick on her finger, she might seriously start eyeing my collection and pointing out the lopsided discrepancy!   :o

But once we're engaged, and obviously even moreso once we're married, I'll have to get a feel for her tolerance on my SW spending habits before I officially decide if "sneaking" stuff will be necessary.  I'm guessing it might just be.  But I suppose as long as she's allowed to continue on with her massive clothes and shoes collection, she should hopefully not have much of a problem with my Star Wars stuff.   Keyword: Hopefully.

The Original Trilogy / Re: How does Vader know who "Luke" is?
« on: May 30, 2003, 05:59 PM »
My guess is that Palpatine knew or figured out who Luke was (or that he at least existed) and kept Vader informed, thus the "the son of Skywalker must not be allowed to become a Jedi" line in ESB.

Perhaps the Emperor somehow figured it out after the Death Star was blown up (put 2 and 2 together).  I wouldn't figure he'd have known all along, but with his powers, perhaps he did.  Maybe they just couldn't actually figure out where Anakin's son was hidden, but always knew of him (even though he was "hidden").  Vader never really says anything specifically that he did NOT know that Luke existed.

Who knows?  Interesting though.  Couldn't say anything in regards to whether it's covered in the EU or not - don't read too much of that stuff myself.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Most Expensive Cardbacks
« on: May 30, 2003, 05:52 PM »
Well there would still be the minor task of meticulously removing the edging of the original bubbles, which is still currently attached.  Then finding perfect new bubbles for each one (along with the respective figures of course) and meticulously resealing them.  Pretty challenging task, though I'm sure there's some pretty good counterfeiters out there who might be able to pull it off.   :-\

But if you look real close, you'll be able to identify some of the small cuts, tears and scrapes on that occurred when the original bubbles were removed.  But I suppose if craft reseals are thrown up on eBay, with no way to get a good close look at them by the potential buyers, then anything could happen.  Might be too late by the time the buyer receives the items and realizes he just got his chain yanked!   :'(

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Place your bets...Hulk
« on: May 20, 2003, 01:38 AM »
Yeah, this movie is not looking too great based on the trailers I've seen so far (including several during tonight's Spurs/Mavericks playoff game).  When the hell are todays producers, directors, etc. going to realize that the CGI overload is getting to be a total bore.  I'm tired of watching cartoons on the big screen all the time now.  It looks like 90% of the Hulk's movie footage is going to be a CG character.  Looks pathetic if you asked me.  Completely unrealistic and unbelievable.  I'll take Lou Ferigno over this cartoon character any day of the week.

As for the toys - just a solid wall of onmoving (untouched for that matter) green garbage.  So his shorts change color a few times.  Big deal.  Clear some room out for the 2003 Star Wars line that 90% of the population has yet to see!   >:(

Watto's Junk Yard / Rank the Star Wars movies!
« on: May 17, 2003, 08:38 PM »
I'm sure we've got a lot of Original Trilogy purists here, considering it's an older crowd (it seems), but I'm sure there's some Prequel enthusiasts as well (maybe).  Anyways, rank the Star Wars flicks here!  Which one was the best?  Any duds?  Voice your opinions!  Here's mine:

1 - The Empire Strikes Back (who said sequels are never better?)

2 - A New Hope/Star Wars (still holds up great after more than a quarter century)

3 - Return of the Jedi (phooey on those medling teddy bears beating up Stormtroopers!)

4 - Attack of the Clones (the Prequels just don't feel as "Star Wars" to me - too much CGI)

5 - The Phantom Menace (no comment.  >:()

Wow, that's very cool!  You're right, I never have seen one of those.  The $3,500 BIN is "a little" out of my league, but thanks for the heads up DSJ.  It was certainly worth a look!   8)

Saga '02-'04 / Re: New Han and Luke - Stormtrooper Style
« on: May 16, 2003, 02:15 PM »
I agree that if Hasbro puts out new Luke and Han Stormtroopers that they should definitely be carded.  Hasbro tends to take some liberties when it comes to the Cinema Scenes, Screen Scenes, 2-packs, or whatever.  Whether it's a very scene specific look or pose, or less that standard sculpting.  Put them on a card, and I'm sure they'll come out quite nice!

But I do like some of these control room ideas, regardless of which figures would come with it.  Not sure why, but this particular scene in ANH was just pretty important or memorable for me.  I'd love to be able to recreate it in a nice diorama.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Silver Fett and Clonetrooper coming...
« on: May 16, 2003, 02:11 PM »
I'm really glad to see the added availability for the silver Fett figure.  Though I doubt I'll be able to get to any of the conventions myself, it sounds like many people will be able to, and that's definitely good for a lot of the collectors out there.  Hopefully the Fan Club gets a nice supply of them in afterwards to satisfy the rest of us who can't get one on the convention route.

And welcome to JediDefender Vic!  It's great to see you visiting this site as well now.  I know you'll get some good input from these guys (and gals)!  Best gang around the net from what I've seen so far.   8)

Mostly still in the closet for me.  My family has always known, and I had to ease my girlfriend into it ever so slowly when we first started dating a couple years ago, but she's fully in the know now.  But as for my friends and coworkers, I mostly don't say much about it in front of them.  Several of them know that I'm a fan of the movies (but not the true extent), but I think I've only shown the collecting habit just a smidgeon to one friend, and that's it so far.

I'm a little self conscious at my adult age too, I guess.  I think eventually most people will find out when I display more of my collection in the future, but for now I guess I haven't really outted myself much either.

Other Collectibles / Re: Boba Fett Unleashed, Confirmed!
« on: May 15, 2003, 12:49 AM »
Entertainment Earth just put up a pre-order for the Yoda, Han, and Boba Fett Unleashed figures.  You can get a piece of the action right here.  Only $57 for the set - not too bad for an e-tailer.  Nice picture too!
