It could've worked...the Bears should be Ewoks, not Imperials..! 49ers are droids (but Chargers are Power Droids!) and the Falcons are obvious...

at least Green Bay Luke is wearing his Hoth gear.

("Green Bay Luke"...better not say that too loud or take this much further, Hasbro will show up with their easy repaint philosophy and give us a bunch of nonsensical figures for $5 more than regular retail.)

The Vintage Collection / Re: TVC Gaming Greats Line

Don't mistake this observation about the Gaming Greats sub-line as a complaint.  But is anyone else puzzled about why Hasbro would offer two TVC trooper figures from Jedi - Fallen Order?  I'm asking that because Hasbro has yet to take on the main character in the game, Cal Kestis, in the 3.75" scale.  I think that these releases would lead you to believe that a 3.75" version of Cal Kestis might be coming in the near future.  But having these trooper villains and not the central protagonist for them to oppose seems a little strange.

The current team doesn't look at this sort of thing at all, to them these figures are widgets and are completely interchangeable. If you want to talk about main characters, look at the line-up for Episode 9 figures. We got one main hero (two if you count Poe, but he was not in his movie outfit so I tend to not include that.) No main villains. Some army builders, some fanboy designs.

From a widget POV the Purge Trooper gets priority over Cal Kestis because there are several easy repaint/repack/reuse opportunities for the tooling. And the other is a retool already.

There is no intended world-building with the current TVC line. They struggle so hard with that (looking at Leia and Lando coming out over a year after their Carbon Freeze playset dropped.)

Thanks!  I'm now looking for 3.75" action figures that look like tourists!

I used a bunch of Jurassic Park/Jurassic World figures (plus Elliott and Gertie) for my Batuu Droid Depot display...

The Tonnika sisters aren't happening. It doesn't matter which was going to be the worst issue--likeness rights, the galaxy's oldest profession, what have you--Hasbro has absolutely no incentive to even open that can of worms.

Not when there are hundreds of characters waiting in the "to be made" line with absolutely nothing standing in the way except the drip-drip-drip supply line. They will never run out of other issue-free options to make, so the one with potential issues isn't ever going to even have the conversation of whether they should or not.

Don't stop there at Death Star Hallways...

Did you ever see the sketches Mike Rex (speedermike when he used to post here) did for some Jabba's Palace Adventure Set-inspired playset concepts last year?

I'd buy 'em all!

I'll plop some money down for Paploo...I missed the Saga version and the secondary market is unreasonable.

If I see an AT-ST Driver and his face is printed correctly in place I might bite.

Leia's poncho is too poofy. I bought the 5POA one with the molded poncho and that one will continue to do for me. I took the poncho off the TSVC version to serve as General Leia, and I don't feel like spending $14 for that with a new head, since it isn't that great of a figure.

I don't do Clone Wars either, so those figures are a pass.

Bespin Lando needs to be a ground-up brand-new figure. And my TVSC IG-88 fell apart over the years, so I am not looking forward to that figure either. I bought one of the Clone Wars IG droids to fill that gap a year ago.

So, yeah, I'll get Paploo I guess.

Did they mention what goes for sale today at noon central?

Just Clone Wars Ahsoka and Maul for TVC today. Not exclusives.

The livestream was enlightening. They opened with Patrick acknowledging that the ball was dropped on some preorders recently, without calling out any retailers or items. He said they will reevaluate how early they offer preorders on some items from now on. Not long after, they revealed three new ROTJ TVC figures that will be exclusive to WalMart, and said preorders will be posted later. So if you take that all into consideration, they are aware that the preorder experience at WalMart was hurting the brand, and are attempting to correct it.

The biggest issue I have with Hasbro's current repaint/reissue philosophy is that it leads them to make lazy choices that don't further the line to the betterment of collectors. For instance, I won't even mention the current TVC repack wave, but how about the "ESB 40th anniversary repack wave" from last summer? They put a "Lando" figure in there to check a box, but didn't have the knowledge or follow through to realize it was a ROTJ General Lando. They picked the tooling because it was handy--they had already reused it in 2016. General Lando made no sense for the wave in the minds of collectors. It made no sense as a release meant to go along with the Carbon Freeze Chamber. Lando would have never crossed the minds of a fan putting together a TVC reissue wave focused on ESB, because any fan could tell you we don't have an ESB Lando in TVC yet. (VOTC, yes, but not TVC.)

The current crew at Hasbro are clueless to these distinctions. They are simply manufacturing widgets, and using standard business practices to sell more units using less investment, without wanting to engage in the fan's emotional involvement with the product. They are happy we love this stuff, but they don't see the benefit in taking extra effort to make the line cohesive. So, with their maximum effort engaged they offer us solid gold repaints, holiday color repaints, shiny metallic repaints, concept art colors repaints, Kenner colorways repaints...all of which exist adjacent to the "real figures" as any fan would categorize it.

I came to the conclusion that Hasbro and I had different intentions for the Star Wars line around 2007...it was the Pax Bonkik repaint figure that broke me of my "I want them all!" habit for good. At that point I decided the only complete collection I wanted was a master list unique to me, so I went about making that list and I've been gratified over the last decade+ to get 20 or so figures off that list. No mistake--there have been figures I never thought of that I have bought because they were cool or neat (this was pre-Disney, after all) but for the most part I have approached everything from the beginning of the Vintage Collection until now as "gravy."

The change at Hasbro seems obvious over the years. It used to be an attitude of "new figures sell well, we need to make new figures." Today, there must be a formula that they crank things through. "The line will be most profitable if we maximize mold usage and minimize new tooling development. Individual waves can only support 18% new tooling at the current MSRP." It definitely changes how the old idea of the "Parking Lot" of potential figures will be approached. And part and parcel with this comes a much lower product run than what they used to make.

It's sad, because for that window between 2013-2018 they tried to adhere to the "new figures" paradigm by cutting costs with the 5POA line. But the new media (and more importantly, the unwillingness of Disney/LFL to share resources for said media in a timely and robust fashion) led to a glut of poor character choices that made the line flop with kids and collectors.

The worst part is, even with the TVC line getting drowned in it's necessary repack percentages, I can see the supposedly popular Black Series slowly but surely becoming more reliant on repaints, rereleases, and kitbashes to maintain its profit margin. That 8-year old line line has a lot less depth than the TVC does at this point, so the prospects there are scary and could strangle it to death if left unchecked.

I was excited on the off chance that they would actually delve into Lucasfilm properties as a subline. THX Cop. Indy. Willow. Maybe a Dark Overlord from the Nexus of Dominus if they could secure those rights. You know, to celebrate the company's history.

But the timeline on the back of the Archive figures bummed me out. Apparently Lucasfilm started in 1971 and spent the decade prepping Star Wars. (Also, that timeline is just a jumbled mess of a design. It made my head hurt looking at it.)

I can guarantee you this--if it means they can reuse a mold they've already pulled out of storage in the last two years, they'll make you a 50th Anniversary figure of whatever they want.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Everything eBay! Scams, questions, etc...

Yeah, they switched me over to direct payments at the end of August. It has been pretty seemless as far as impact to my financials.

The upside was no more PayPal fees.

They do daily deposits Mon-Fri straight to my bank account, the funds show up in 24hrs. Sales from over the weekend are usually in my bank account on Wednesday morning.

Downside seems to be when a buyer has an issue that they report, eBay automatically puts those funds on hold (there have been a lot of delayed shipments since the beginning of December thanks to the USPS, and buyers have taken it up with eBay even though they have a tracking number.)

I still think one of my projects this year will be to set up a dedicated webstore and ween myself off of eBay as my primary storefront. It is great for exposure and I will still use it to advertise new stuff, but the fees still add up and I could get a wider selection out for sale without having to worry about listing thresholds and other fees.

If it's out of stock, they might as well lower the price even more!

I have never let this exclusive runaround stuff get to me, but this week's events have been ridiculous. I think I will be ignoring Online Exclusives from here on out. If I see them in store so be it, but the local WalMart is one of the little/outdated ones that doesn't get them, so their stuff will be dead to me.

My replacement order (placed yesterday 8am) did indeed show up today at 3pm.

It's a good sized box, but I'm waiting until this evening to open it up (so I can do an "unboxing video" for Instagram  ::) )
