12" Figures / Re: Sideshow 12" Grand Admiral Thrawn

Does anybody know when this will be shipped? One of my sort of local toy stores is pretty good about getting Sideshow stuff and I may have to bite on this if they do get it.

I WANT to purchase the two new Clone Wars books that have come out but I like to pick this kind of stuff up used at "Half Priced Books". Normally I don't have a problem finding it that way. But I think no one is willing to spend $15 for a over sized paperback new to then have a copy to sell to the used place.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: The Phantom Menace: Was it That Bad?
« on: August 27, 2009, 12:17 PM »
There was some bad acting and bad dialog. Did this particular story make for a great script for a movie? No, but to me the overall idea of setting up Anakin's fall and seeing how Palpatine duped everyone was interesting.

There is a humorous episode of the Simpsons that makes fun of all the bickering at the senate and the political aspects where an AT-AT looking being breaks through the wall and then is told to take his turn and he puts on his spectacles blah blah blah, but I think it summed up some of the points of why this movie wasn't great as a film.

I wish they'd hurry up and get some more new waves of these out in stores soon. With the line ending I'm sure no stores will have a spot for them post Christmas and nothing is more annoying than hunting down the last few things as a line dies. And these are so hit and miss anyways.

Picked up a Legends Chewie (sandstorm version) so now my correct VOTC version can make fun of the sandstorm version.

Other Toy Lines / Re: 2009: What Are You Collecting?
« on: August 25, 2009, 01:46 PM »
I was into a lot of different movies/tv shows/etc. when I was a kid that now have toy lines again and it is fun to take a look at them. But nothing else was ever nearly as important to me when I was a kid as Star Wars and so knowing how much space and money any other line would take makes it easy to say no for me, whereas I'd probably roll over and die if I didn't have the SW stuff anymore.

Finished "Abyss". Good, not great, but I'm actually looking forward to the fourth book which I couldn't say after the first two.

Stallworth only got 30 days?!

Yup.  While Vick was a multiple offense and a name brand, I think Stallworth should have got more.  He killed a human being for pete's sake.  But apparently that doesn't matter as much.

Absolutely Stalworth should have got more than 30 days. That is a joke, but the two different sentences doesn't have anything to do with a dog's life being greater than a human's life. First of all most of Vick's sentence wasn't because of the dogs getting killed but because of the felony conspiracy charge that went with it. And the intent behind the crimes plays a role too.

What Stalworth did was horrible but you have to look at what they person was thinking when they did the crime. I think comparing Burress' two years to Stalworth's 30 days is way more logical.

That is all I will say in this thread since once again it's gone non football.

See, I am the exact opposite.  I always wait for the paperbacks, so I'm a good 6-12 months behind on most novels.   :-\  Without giving anything away from the plot, how would you compare this to the New Jedi Order or Legacy of the Force books?

To me this "Fate" series doesn't hold a candle to the other two, especially NJO.

I'm a little over half way done with "Abyss" and in my opinion it is ten times better than "Omen" was already. I was a little worried so I'm glad to feel that way.

Just heard the stat on ESPN that in the history of baseball before Joe Mauer this year there have only been four players to have 25+ HR and have a AVG. at .380+ this late in the season: Ruth, DiMaggio, Gehrig, and Ted Williams. WOW!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about Tarkin. I have a 17 year old cat who is in really good health other than he has gotten skinny over the years. I dread the day that changes.

I wanted to name our younger cat Wilhuff but my wife wouldn't let me so now he's Grand Moff Howie. Needless to say she calls him just Howie.

I love the idea of having a Darth Maul, etc. on a vintage looking card. I have no problem with it at all.

Spoken like a true homer.  ;)  Frankly, I'm skeptical that the Vikes can make the playoffs given Brad's coaching.  I'd trust in Forte's ability more than I trust in Brad's ability to successfully use all the weapons at his disposal.  Also factor in that Favre has not had any time to gel with his new team and has practiced even less than at any point in his career - the Vikes have a lot of question marks as well.

Yeah, but, who cares what a Packers fan living in Minnesota thinks about the Vikings?  ;)
