Toy Reviews / Titanium Ultra Millennium Falcon (pics)
« on: November 18, 2006, 01:29 PM »

What a pleasant surprise this vehicle was!  I had only bought the Ultra size Snowspeeder for use in the window of my AT-AT cockpit diorama, but I saw this one and Vader's TIE at Target yesterday with no prices on them.  I remembered seeing Vader's TIE weeks earlier with clearance tags on them, so on a whim I scanned this and it was $4.98!  Cheaper than the regular scale Titanium ships!

Sculpt: this ship is larger than the typical Titanium Ultra, and therefore has some heft to it.  It's not light!  The die-cast frame with occasional plastic pieces blend seamlessly.  The sculpted detail far exceeds that of the vintage mold 4" scale toy.  The cockpit can be removed to reveal infinitesimal (and surprisingly accurate) seated versions of Han, Chewie, Luke, and Ben.  The quad laser cannons on the top and bottom of the ship are as small and proportional as they should be.  They appear to be articulated, but were very tight and I didn't want to risk snapping them off.  The radar dish is made of a very rubbery plastic, and rotates and pivots.  The boarding ramp can be lowered and even has the 2 support struts at the base of the ramp.  Possibly the coolest detail is that a piece of the forward hold can be removed to reveal the compartment where the heroes spent their time during the hyperspace flight to Alderaan.  The details are recognizeable here (such as the dejarik table and bench, and Han's console) but at this scale you can't expect a perfectly accurate representation  :P. Lastly, all 3 landing gear struts can be lowered should you want to remove the Falcon from the display stand (it's screwed in like all the others).   4.9/5

Paintjob:  I just can't find fault here, because the dirty wash applied over the multi-colored panels is superb.  It really looks like a studio-scale model.   5/5

At $20 this is a bargain for the detail (I see this as a poor man's studio scale replica), but at the $5 clearance, it's a steal!  Other efforts in this line such as Slave 1 and the AT-AT are good, but lack just a little extra detail that seems to be here.  I'm going to keep my eye out for more of these in the future.

30th Anniversary Collection / Hypothetical: which film for last wave?
« on: October 18, 2006, 12:24 AM »
Sort of along the lines of the Dream Wave thread, if Hasbro suddenly announced only 1 wave will be made until the line is cancelled, which film would you request it from?  What example figures would you have in it?

I would choose ROTJ, and it would include:
-B-Wing pilot variants
-Y-Wing pilot variants
-A-Wing pilot variants
-New Ackbar
-3 variants of Prune Face
-Hermi Odle
-Palace Klaatu
etc, etc

Watto's Junk Yard / The movie quote game!
« on: February 19, 2006, 03:45 PM »
I couldn't find one in Search, but it's probably been done.  Anyway, here's the deal: post a quote from any movie, and anyone can answer it by quoting your post and putting the answer.  No one has to wait for the right answer before posting; just put as many as you want, and people can quote your post and put an answer at any point.  Alright, here we go:

"It is a reminder to me that all things end."

Hope I didn't miss an already created thread, but just wanted to say how cool it was for Jesus to sell me just the OT droids from the EE astromech sets, and at a great price too!  Top marks from this Daigo!

I mentioned this over in the Saga thread, but if anyone is willing to sell any or all of the OT astromechs from the Entertainment Earth set, I'd buy them with interest for the trouble.  Thanks!

Hope I'm not making another thread for Alex, but I didn't see one yet.  Just wanted to say payment received; thanks for the purchase!  Although I feel bad that it was for a copy of the *shudder* "SW Holiday Special"!  Nothing like watching Itchy view bad virtual porn though, plus, how about that terrible performance by Jefferson Starship? :P

Wanted to show you guys a couple of ML figures I customized.  I started these because I had a couple extras from the Sentinel wave that I bought just to get the piece of the larger robot.  I couldn't sell the figures off for 3 or 4 bucks either.  So, I made the Colossus out of a Mr. Sinister and the Union Jack out of the 1st Appearance Spidey, and let me just say that there is a healthy custom ML business on eBay!  Hope you like 'em!

Long story short: hurricane katrina flooded my collection room a couple feet, floated this dio around the room, and I salvaged much of it and rebuilt it with some new pieces.  Hope you like!

I did a little spray-painting and made an engine/grille for a vintage cloud car I picked up cheap.  This'll hold me until (if) they release one!

Watto's Junk Yard / Finally back for good!
« on: December 31, 2005, 11:25 AM »
Sorry to start a thread about this, but just wanted to say I'm glad to be back with you guys and girls after too long an absence!  Me and the family just got back into the house after 3 1/2 months living with the bro-in-law after hurricane Katrina.  We didn't have any significant damage other than rising waters into the rooms a couple of inches (house is raised about 3 feet), but the city decided to confiscate our electricity meter due to our proximity to Lake Pontchartrain.  We got it back with some pleading, and now my computer is back in my home too.  I'll have to bring over a few threads from customs that I made and posted at-cough,cough-RS-cough, cough, sorry!  Anway, missed J-Mac and all the rest!
