I had a couple hours this morning, so I thought I'd knock out the seated jawa really quick, in order to put this dio "to bed" in my mind.  So here's a few pics of that- I took a spare POTF2 version and cracked off his bottom half, using some super sculpy to get at least a convincing seated robe shape.  I baked it, painted it, and gave it a slightly darker wash.  In the dio it helps cover up the Landspeeder support too!

Hey guys!  Just finished my latest; WIP pics over at RS if you're interested!

And here is the left side with figures added.  Note some pics have the foreground jawa after I gave him a dirty wash, and others before.  I don't LOVE that version of Luke, but I wanted to get his poncho in the scene since he put it on then.  I had carefully hot-glued Ben's (and Wioslea's) robes to drape more naturally too.

And on to the right side: I hot-glued all figures in place to prevent dominoes-falling!

And the last couple show the diorama in place on my shelf. I painted the inside of the shelf a sky baby blue, and you can see the Tatooine building stuffed there in the corner with my Mos Eisley guy custom from a couple years back.  This is a hole I've had since the beginning (this shelf built for my very early dios by a relative), so I was thrilled to finally get this one done!

Thanks again!  Yeah, it's actually a 5-engine landspeeder, supposedly owned by Fixer.  It apparently is just like Luke's but with an engine between the side and middle ones.  It's just parked in the scene.

Thanks so much for the kind words guys!  And Jesse- I really appreciate the front page feature!  Let's see: yeah, the 5-engine landspeeder is an image of Luke's that I added two more engines to by copying and pasting.  It is a flat image printed on photo paper, and leaning back somewhat to give the proper illusion of perspective.  It looks strange from the top view, but just right from front on.  The 2 players (Deak and Windy) are Moisture Vaporator Luke bodies with the belts removed and a repainted head on one and new head on the other.  I used small floralytes to illuminate the game buttons from within, and another four of them under Fixer's work table.  Everything else is a combination of foamcore, foamie, styrofoam covered in plaster, and clear plastic for the windows.  Greeblies are mostly cpu parts spraypainted with grey or black!

Hey there, my JD friends- just finished my latest diorama and wanted to share.  This is the Anchorhead deleted scene, which I wanted to make to house the recent comic pack figures.  I have plenty of "making of" info over on RS.

And a couple of reference pics:

Star Wars Dioramas and Displays / Failure in the Cave
« on: October 24, 2010, 08:55 PM »
This was a fairly quick diorama to make, so instead of having a series of WIP pics from start to finish, I thought I'd just post it all when I was done!  Having done a precision foamcore dio recently, I decided to make a rougher, more organic scene next (I actually keep putting off a re-do of the Rancor pit for some reason  :p ).  This was a scene I'd wanted to make for a while because the figures had occupied an empty spot on my shelf.

I started with a styrofoam structure to suggest the cave shape, including the hole through which Luke climbs in.  I then made the outer hallway (or whatever it is!) from a few pieces of styrofoam as well.  I began to coat the structure with instant papier mache' (which is my favorite material for terrain) as seen in these pics.

I then coated the hallway structure in plaster, lightly sanded it down, and spraypainted everything "brown boots" and grey for the hall structure.  I started to hot glue twigs and vines to the cave itself.

I glued a bunch more vines, put a light wash of black over the IPM that I had shaped to look like vines, and drybrushed a little over everything.  The inner hallway wall is foamcore coated in plaster and sanded/painted.  Here are the final pics from various angles:

Thanks so much for the kind words, guys!  Yeah, the ceiling is one of my favorite materials: it's an opaque shelf-liner (the kind you would put on your shelves for dishes, etc) that I bought years ago to serve as the ribbed doorway threshold for Tatooine dios, like the Cantina entrance.  The light coming through here is actually just natural light from my window above this diorama!  As for the chair, here's a closer pic (note that I altered it a bit since this pic; namely I removed the pieces sticking out from the sides and replaced it with thin wire).  The bed itself is made of 3 pieces of thin balsa wood cut with an x-acto blade.  It actually can recline a little based on the puzzle-piece shape it has.  The cushions on the bed itself are little rectangle foamies.  The control box on the side is a foamcore rectangle dressed with little cpu board greeblies.  The opaque tube under the chair is a wire "sheath" that I crimped repeatedly with a wire-cutter.  I cut a hole into the floor of the dio so that the treads of the treadwell would sink in.

Hey guys!  Just finished my latest diorama.  I have WIP pics over at RS if anyone's interested.  The galaxy is a pic of the actual Andromeda galaxy, with a rebel ship photoshopped in.  Thanks for looking!

Based on the pics, I really prefer my custom dais over this one, and am about equally pleased with my repaint of the Saga Jabba compared to the sculpt of this one.  That said, I think I only want the Oola.  If anyone wants to sell one, let me know.

I wonder if his father's aware of it, either when it happened or after the fact, or is just too trusting.  If he isn't aware, at some point he'll probably find out and it'll be interesting to see what he does about it.  Hey- maybe it wasn't the kid!  Maybe it was the contractor!!

Yeah, I'm too paranoid (and my wife too bossy) for my collection room to actually be IN the house.  When we bought it about 10 years ago, I made sure to get a standalone "shed" (more like a bedroom) separate from the house.  Needless to say, there's been a lock on the door from the beginning.

I actually have 2 of those dirty EVO Sandtroopers, Anton, and I don't need both.  Please PM me if you want one!

Guys- do not take an employee's comment as final; go in with the six digit code, ask them to look it up (they have them in their stockrooms, promise), and when they say the figures can't be sold until August, tell them TRU got a memo allowing them to sell.  They can ring the figures up to check for sure.  Don't leave the store without trying!

Edit: code for TRU's computers: 435881

Haha, Jesse- well, I don't know if it was scaled back ENOUGH, but it does look great!  Now, the fact that there isn't any weathering...  :P

Here's another great comparison:

That's a more considerable size reduction than first glance gives; combine it with replacing the harpoon and guns with the smaller non-firing versions (and a bigger AT-AT to battle) and it will look much more screen accurate!
