34 points by a defense is rigoddamndiculous.

Damn it Matt. You jinxed me. >:(

 :P

Sorry Ryan. When I was running the numbers, I didn't figure the Seahawks defense could get to 18, much less 34. That's just insane!

Gotcha. I should have sensed the passion in your "Hook 'Em Horns" statement. :)

Well, there appear to be some pretty nice matchups in the bowls this year. The non-BCS game that stands out to me is the Peach (LSU vs. Miami). The Fiesta (Ohio St. vs. Notre Dame) should be fun to watch - remembering how big that game was when the two met in the mid 90's while going to school in Ohio. The Rose (Texas vs. USC) certainly looks like a dandy and hopefully will live up to it's billing.

On the flip side, my beloved Colorado Buffs have done the fastest freefall out of what looked like a Holiday Bowl spot all the way down to the Champs Sports Bowl. I guess that is what you get when you get absolutely dominated in your last 10 quarters of the regular season (2nd Half of the Iowa St. game, Nebraska, and the debacle known as the Big 12 Championship game).  :-[

Apparently, my calling should have been sports statistician - I'm having fun crunching the numbers on the playoff seeding. Seeds 1-4 look pretty well locked up:

1) Minnesota Muskies
2) The Famine
3) SGC Airmen
4) The Mathematicians

The only way these change is with a massive Yahoo stats change or with Seattle's Defense/Special Teams scoring 18 or more points (if that happens, the Airmen drop somewhere to 4-6).

Mathematically eliminated are Nerfherders (by record), THE CUSPIDS (by record), and the Golden Girls (by virtue of season points at a record of 6-7).

Dressel's Vengeance looks like the 7 seed and prime for a rematch with Kevin, unless both The Zods and the Capital Land Cats make up enough points to pass Dressel for the season (which looks extremely unlikely, given the amount of points needed and the fact Dressel has a couple of players Monday anyway).

5 & 6 look like they will go to the winners of the Capital Land Cats/Zods and
the Nameless/Canuckleheads game (barring the aforementioned Seattle DEF/Special Teams getting 18+ points).  Season point totals will determine which winner gets which seed, with the bunching up of the Capital Land Cats, The Zods and the Nameless leaving it too close to call at this point.

Whichever loser of these 2 games has the higher point total on the season looks to be the 8 seed and the pleasure of facing Scott. Brent doesn't have enough points to lose this weekend and grab the 8 seed.

Whew - good stuff. :)

10:11 EST:

The Golden Girls 38.81
The Mathematicians 76.47

Well, poop. 4th isn't too bad I guess.

Damn. I guess 4th isn't too bad. If the stats from today stay as is, you'll have the #3 seed by 0.28 points. All I needed was 6 more yards.  >:(

Oh well. Guess I'll just have to take it out on whoever ends up with the 5 seed.

Wahoo! After that Gates TD, if I can get ~4 more points, I can steal the 3rd seed from Ryan....  :D

Edit: Well, after Zod's last post, that may or may not be accurate.  :(

I was so glad to see Colorado get their asses handed to them by Texas.

Eh, Ryan, you're just bitter that Colorado State can't do it....  ;)

Vintage Kenner / Re: AFA - Good or Bad?

I don't know if I agree that the days of the bargains is over. High-quality MOC stuff has been pretty hot and highly valued for a few years now, even before AFA came along.

Sure, the much of the nice stuff is being sent to be graded, but AFA 75 and 80's are nice pieces that can be had without the premium that 85's and 90+'s get. In fact, I've seen some examples that have been graded 75 or 80 have gone for less than pretty much equivalent condition, ungraded figures have in the past 6-8 months or so.

Well, my team finally went off this week (and would have done better had a I kept Kevin Curtis and Cadillac Williams in the lineup  :-\ ), but I'm really anxious about Antonio Gates' foot.

Hopefully, I'll still have enough to kick Dressel to the curb later this week...

84
I can understand your frustration, Dressel. I'm looking at the standings and realizing that I'd better keep winning if I want to get into the playoffs, 'cause I'm sure not going to have more points than most folks if it comes down to the tiebreaker for the same record.

That being said, I've never been in a fantasy league with this much of a logjam in the standings. It's amazing how many teams are between 6-4 and 4-6.

85
At least Gonzalez is coming around.  Sort of.

Remind me to send you a card thanking you for taking Gonzalez, so that I got "stuck" taking Antionio Gates soon thereafter. If it wasn't for him, I'd be in trouble in the standings.

Go Peyton, Go! No more James!

Edit: Dammit! I think James just got enough on those last few plays to push Scott on top.

Minnesota Muskies 34.23 (Hines Ward, A. Chatman, Corey Dillon, Dallas Clark, Edgerrin James, Bears DEF left to play)
The Mathematicians 40.65 (Peyton Manning left to play)
Muskies the projected winner

What? You assume that between Dillion, Ward, James, Clark, Chatman and the Bears defense all left to play that Scott will somehow score a sum total of 6.43 points and whatever Manning happens to get for me? bull****!  ;) :P

The Chargers really need to figure out how to balance the TD's between Gates and LT. These weeks where LT gets all the scores just blow.  >:(

Modern Classifieds / FS: Darth Vader ROTJ 65a Proof Card AFA 85
« on: November 5, 2005, 11:36 AM »
Hi all,

I have a 65-back Return of the Jedi Darth Vader Proof card that is up for sale. It's a standard proof card -  2 square corners at the bottom, 2 rounded corners at the top, with a punch tab. It is in fine condition with no creases or tears- it has been graded an AFA 85. Vader proof cards rarely come up for sale, especially publicly.

I'm asking $550 for the proof. The AFA number on it is 04384057.

You can either drop me a PM (preferred) or email me at carrollm@colorado.edu if you are interested or have questions.

Thanks,
Matt

I'm not too worried yet about Miller. 2 TD's and 18 yds = 12.9 pts. He still needs 15.28 points to tie.

I'm pissed about the Steelers having a viable tight end though. Takes away Bettis' touches in the red zone....  >:(

Just a note to anyone who has yet to figure out lineups for this weekend - the Kansas City-Miami game has moved to Friday night to avoid the hurricane.
